Breakfast Topic: Father's Day

The secret to making a good cake is in the fun involved. If you have to ninja your way into making it when your dad is out of the house, so be it. If you have to beg your brother to take your dad to the store for some nonsensical reason so you can frost it, so be it. However, one small bit of advice I forgot: If you're making a cake in desert conditions, it will melt. Especially if it's coconut pecan frosting ... it tasted good anyway, and I swear it was pretty when I finished it!
Obviously we did our Father's Day festivities on Saturday rather than waiting until Sunday -- it was mainly a matter of when we could get all the siblings and their families together on one day. Still, despite the late dinner (helpful hint: one should always check and make sure the grill is still functional sometime before the steaks are ready to be cooked) and the melting cake, my dad was terribly pleased with all the ninja efforts to pull it together. How about you guys? Are you doing something nice for the dads in your life? What have you got planned? And if you are a father, happy Father's Day -- I guarantee even if the cake is half-melted and the dinner was a little late, we still love you. We just have to work on our timing.

I got my dad the index of cheese covering more than 300 different types. Pretty awesome, I know.

I introduced my Dad to World of Warcraft this spring, and he's taken to it wonderfully. He especially enjoys his dwarf hunter, who's into his 60's. He just got Lich King. For Father's day, I got help from my partners to get all the mats together and had my engineer alt make him a Nesingwary 4000 and a Heartseeker Scope. He was thrilled. I'm thrilled to be playing with him and getting to spend time with him on vent even though we live a day's drive away and don't get to see each other in person all that often.

You and your dad are both awesome. Just sayin'. *grin* I almost wish my dad would play - I have no idea what race or class he'd be, but he builds bicycles in his basement, so I know he'd take up Engineering.

I got my dad an ice cream scoop because my family was having to scoop ice cream with regular spoons because my dad broke the last two-either because the ice cream was too hard or he was trying to hard...and they just broke.

Ha! I remember doing this for my father one year. His was a solid steel, all one piece, two inch thick hunk of metal. Was the meanest looking icecream scoop ever.

Father's Day is in August for Aussies.

Or I may have possibly meant September.
Doh!

A very Happy Father's Day to all the dad's out there. I haven't had the chance to see my dad in 10 years since I moved to Australia from the US and he's had some medical issues preventing him to come visit. I wish I could interest him in WoW, though Mom thinks he spends enough time as it is on the computer. He's just not that computer literate and strugles with email at times. So to all the Dad's out there - remember your kids do love you even though they may be far away.

We got my dad an e-Book reader. He was very happy with it.

My dad lives on the other end of the country, so I don't get to see him that often. I'll be giving him a call today, and I did send a card. But what's great was that, earlier this year, he and his girlfriend crashed at my place for about a week, so they got to ride their bicycles all around places in New Mexico and I got to spend some time with him. He's not a big computer guy anymore, so I won't be playing WoW with him, but he does like his new netbook and Win7.
Although, I did have to explain the Horde symbol sticker on the back of my car to him. *grin* Great thing was, he's a big NPR listener (usually when he's down in the basement building bicycle frames with steel and fire), so he'd heard a piece about a bunch of WoW players getting together in real life. It made me happy to know that, while he might not really understand one of my hobbies, he knew more about it than just the stereotypes. My dad's a pretty cool guy.

My dad wanted an iPod just to put on the dock of our stereo so he didn't have to shuffle CDs in and out. I stopped using my old iPod because the right channel of audio no longer comes out of the headphone jack, but it works fine in all other regards, so I gave it to him. He was quite surprised and happy.

My dad is slightly amused that I play.. he's not the video game type (and really, had someone told me 3 years ago I'd be playing this game and enjoying it this much I would have laughed hysterically), however he is the movie type.. therefore he's got a gift card for his favorite movie theater and a new Eagles t-shirt.. and instead of going out to dinner like planned, we are up early (for me.. on a sunday) and heading out to breakfast in a couple minutes.
Happy Fathers Day to the wow.com staff fathers and the readers who are fathers. :)

Philadelphia Eagles or "Hotel California" Eagles?
Chetti Jun 20th 2010 11:02AM
lol Philadelphia Eagles. He's been a fan for a long (LONG) time. He had season tickets for 20 years or more spanning both stadiums, but then we moved from Philadelphia 4 years ago.

DAMN IT! I was gonna ask where to get classic rock t-shirts. Not that it'd matter, none would fit me, I'm like a...medium long or something. Perfect range so that neither regular clothing stores nor "big and tall" clothing stores are useful to me. :\

I'll be sending him a card. Thats about it.
That's about the extent of the relationship I have with my father anyway. :P
Happy Fathers day to all you guys though! :D

If dad wouldn't destroy a computer by getting within 20 feet of it, I'd love to have him play WoW. But, sadly, email befuddles my dad. He thinks a web browser is a kind of spider.
Chetti Jun 20th 2010 11:04AM
haha sounds like my dad.. really. He tries, so I have to give him credit for trying. But he calls me whenever a window pops up on the screen. "It says.. windows update.. what do I do?? what did I break?? HELP!!" lmao
