The 2010 Midsummer Fire Festival began earlier this morning, and this year
some of the holiday's mechanics have been changed to reflect the dungeon finder's impact on the game. With the
Crown Chemical Company apothecaries introduced to
Love Is In the Air, we saw the last gasp of extensive holiday boss-farming for special drops. These days,
you'll only get one crack a day per character at the mounts, pets, or unique drops off a boss (although you can continue to farm for the boss' normal drops). Truthfully, I'm happy about the change; spending ages waiting for alt after alt to make its way to an instance for another shot at a boss drop wasn't really anyone's idea of a good time.
Apart from that, what are your plans for the holiday? Does your toon still need the
Flame Keeper/
Flame Warden meta? Are you looking forward to Lord Ahune's updated loot table, or are you just hoping for a
Scorchling pet?

My plans for the festival are naught, currently on a WoW break.
But this festival has some of the best novelty equips & items of any festival out there, a must for anyone who hasn't done it before!

The obsessive pet collector in my wants the scorchling (I already have everything you can buy with blossoms, as well as the meta), but the rational think in me knows I'll just end up letting it rot in my pet tab like my Brewfest kodo mount, so I'm understandably torn.

Yup, the drop pet's the only thing I'm missing here, too. Nothing I can use off the boss, I don't think (since I picked up my Frost-badge cloak for my DPS set and they haven't given him neck drops this year). All the blossom-y things I've long since purchased.
I might use all the extra XP from pole dances and bonfires as an opportunity to spend some time on some alts I've been neglecting, though.
Ooh, I just noticed something--the pet drop out of the extra loot appears to be an entirely new pet (Frigid Frostling vs. Scorchling). So those of us who've missed it in the past are just SOL on the old one, I guess? Or is it still dropping?

Seems like BOTH the scrochling and the new pet can be found inside the satchel.... And i want both of them - so I am not happy about Blizzards new system....

Don't let your pets rot!! I am a bit of a pet afficianado myself and used to have a few hotbars full of pet icons... but then I noticed a guildie would always have a different pet out. He had a great add-on that I also recommend: Pet Leashes! You can download from all the notable and reliable addon sites like curse. It can randomly select a non-combat pet anytime you zone or dismount, and you can set it to favor certain pets over others and other customization.

I've got all of the achievements so I'm just going to be doing the daily once a day, that's about it. Maybe take use of these quests on my alt, but nothing more really.

- Get the cloaks for all my 80's difrent specs (Done)
- Get the title on all my level 80 chars (5/10 Done(3/10 from last year))
- Be lucky enought to get the pet on all my 80's (1/10 Done)

Gotta get 'em all, as the saying goes - I'm working on the meta-achievement so my mage can add another purple dragon to her collection. *grin* Also looking forward to the drops from Ahune, as both my mage and my DK could use a cloak upgrade, and the staff is awesome, even if my DK would only use it to try to dress up as Death. ^_^
