Blizzard releases Patch 3.3.5 Ruby Sanctum storyline

While you're waiting for Patch 3.3.5 to hit the live servers, you can check out Blizzard's latest preview of the final raid instance in Wrath of the Lich King -- the Ruby Sanctum. European Community Manager Wryxian just dropped by the forums to link the Under Development page for Ruby Sanctum, which contains some new images and (perhaps most importantly, for some) the storyline behind the instance.
"Next to nothing is known about who might be responsible for the assault on the Ruby Sanctum: the black dragonflight is not known for forgiveness or patience, but its numbers in Northrend are surely limited. What force would be powerful or daring enough to assail the stronghold of these ancient wyrms? How could such an enemy sneak by the temple's guardians undetected? Surely an approaching air or ground force would have been caught by Wyrmrest Temple's defenders.
For the moment, the members of the accord and their allies must assume the worst scenario that they can conceive of: that all life within the Ruby Sanctum rests on the precipice of extinction, and only immediate intervention will prevent the red dragonflight from being decimated. They'll find that the truth is far worse."
I think some of us know the truth already! If you're raring to go for a trip into the Ruby Sanctum after reading this, prepare yourself by checking out our guide to Halion, the instance's grand poobah.

All Hail Halion! Destroyer of the June 22nd maintence crew.

Extended extended maintenance has been extended to 3PM PDT.
It's a little odd that this is such a troublesome patch since there's no real in-game stuff going live today besides RealID and what appears to be a WIM-lite whisper system.

Agree, seems like a lot of downtime since we are actually only getting a new way to chat today. World first reasoning for the delay seems kinda flawed since it is night time in Europe when servers generally come off maintenance anyway, and since most guilds tend to raid at night after work this gives Europe an advantage for most content firsts. There is no clear solution to any problem in this game, however, with everyone's varying schedules. I am just saying that delaying the release in North America seems to be flawed in it's logic. Either way I suppose it does not impact me much since not competing for world firsts and the downtime today should be over when I get off work.

it's small on the client end but cross server/game communication on server end is pretty huge. i wouldn't be surprised to see this patch delayed even more than a major content patch cause of that.

This is a huge deal server wise. They're implementing an entirely new communications method on every server.

Looks familiar... Patch notes anyone?

This is why we should never let dragons read/watch Twilight.

The consequences of this would be, dare i say... CATACLYSMIC! xD

This isn't really much of a storyline reveal, is it, given that we've known for several months the plot of the instance is "Deathwing sends some of his bros up to assault Wyrmrest temple while he gets ready to ravage the land like never before, total destruction from mountain to shore."

"ravage the land like never before, total destruction from mountain to shore."
epic smurfs reference dude

Hmmm looks familiar... my previous comment anyone?

Maintenance extended until 6PM EST. FML. It doesn't matter anyway; Ruby Sanctum won't be available until the patch hits all regions, and the kinks are worked out of it, Real ID, and Battle.net functions.

The raid instance isn't going to be available till next week when it launches across the pond. US is technically testing out the launch of Battle.net system for EU players before the raid goes live. ^_^
I fully expect them to have all sorts of server problems.

Yeah, it's really hard to get excited about this patch since I don't like the idea of Real ID (put your log on e-mail AND your real name out there!) and Ruby Sanctum isn't opening immediately. Throw in the longest maintenance since 3.3 hit and I'm really kind of "blah" about the whole thing right now.
SINisterWyvern Jun 22nd 2010 7:09PM
It doesn't put anything out anywhere. The point of RealID is to give your e-mail to a real friend. Who I would suspect already knows your real name, hopefully. And after you're added your e-mail is never even shown again. But still, ya know, giving them your e-mail address allows the real life friends this exists for the ability to psychically know your password as well.
