Breakfast Topic: Holiday boss in the dungeon finder is the best thing ever

With 2010's Midsummer Fire Festival, Blizzard has introduced a new avenue to enjoy the holiday bosses that creep up for most special events. This year, for the first time, Frost Lord Ahune is queue-able in the random dungeon finder. Have you tried it yet? Because it is amazing. Spectacular. Mind-blowingly awesome. Hands down, the addition of the holiday bosses to the random dungeon finder is the single best thing to happen to WoW since the dungeon finder itself. All of the petty crap that came along with finding people to summon the holiday boss, people demanding item reservations and a million other hurdles are gone. Years have been added on to my life because I never have to put together that perfect group again for maximum summons of the holiday boss.
What do you think about the inclusion of the holiday bosses to the random dungeon finder? Do you miss the old days of the rolling boss summons, or do you cherish the new days of one-chance-bag-per-day? You know how I feel, so let's hear from you!

More free emblems...
Must.. do run... every day...
:S

Yup - even my abandoned hunter/bank alt runs Ahune every day, cos 3 minutes work for 2 Frosties is just too tempting to pass up, and I'll have enough for some primordial saronite at the end if nothing else.
Really appreciate the frosties on my other 2 alts, as it's speeding up the ICC gearing process nicely.

Instant summon to the dungeon. Immediate access to the fight. Satchel of Goods that includes Emblems of Frost. Leave the dungeon and go back to where you questing/crafting/farming/role playing. There truly is nothing better. Kudos Blizz. Kudos to you.

I was a bit apprehensive about how to do this, but once I opened the dungeon finder and there was Ahune, it was amazing. We rotate people through as a guild and it was so easy, particularly as a lot of people who leveled from Outlands to Northrend didn't do things like Slave Pens and have no idea where it is. Guild members waiting their turn in the run can continue to do things. We'll just summon them later. It's going to make running the Headless Horseman so easy.

Let's just hope the make the Headless Horseman and Brewfest and other holyday bosses this way. It is an amazing way to get emblems and get gear for fresh 80s, not to mention that the item itself (The Frostscythe) looks badass.

It's safe to assume that this will be the new norm for all holiday events and I for one love it. No more rolling against friends for that coveted Brewfest Ram ... the very ram that has been eluding me for three years.
You shall be mine this year. Do you hear me? MINE!!!

@gperrigo:
You forgot the part where you don't have to worry about ungrateful tards leaving your group once everyone else has used their daily quest to summon the boss. Eliminating the air of mistrust that plagued holiday events has taken such a burden off my shoulders when getting a group.
And of course, that's only the icing on the cake of everything else you mentioned ;)

I have to admit, I loved it too. I logged in last night thinking even as a healer I'd have wait a bit in queue and in the meantime I'd watch guild chat to see if anyone else wanted to go. I group popped just 15 seconds later and wham, everyone was at the summon point in the instance. The tank took off and started the event, everyone one opened a can of whoop ass on the adds and then the core, a cloak dropped, everyone slapped need or greed and whammo... I was back in Dalaran standing at a mailbox. It was all so fast and so easy I almost had to check my chat screen to confirm that a cloak actually dropped because it felt entirely possible that I had just dozed off for a minute and dreamt the whole thing.

I will say that I absolutely love it, but I am shedding a small tear for the great alt summoning-train. I realize there are only a small number of people who do this and that it isn't feasible for everyone involved, but for some people who had nice friends/lots of gold, those alt summoning trains often meant more chances at getting something because they had already worked out that they WOULD NOT be rolling against anyone- I did this for the brewfest mounts last year and have also paid gold for the minipet from Love is in the Air. So it kinda sucks for us.
BUT, I will also add that even as far back as the Halloween event last year, my family/friends who were part of the big group effort (they always needed gear, plus we kept farming for the rare stuff after I got what I needed/wanted) were already starting to burn out. We summoned HH about 12x a day last year and didn't see a single mount drop. And by time Love is in the Air came around there were about 5 more alts to bring in and that was just unmanageable.
While I cry a small tear for the fact that I won't be able to max out MY chance to get a drop this year, I'm not going to miss coordinating the huge alt train. It got old after we did it for Brewfest anyway.

Isn't there a HUGE problem that we will only get a capped number of attempts at the boss during the event? The Big Love Rocket is like a 0.1% drop, and players will only have 7 attempts a year? :/
Please correct me if Blizz has done something to address this, I'm fairly in the dark but not heard anything to make rare mounts attainable still...

@Baba
I distinctly remember hearing that they planned to raise the drop rate for mounts/pets to compensate for us having fewer chances to see them drop.
Baba Jun 22nd 2010 12:32PM
@Irem
ah ok, thanks :) I'm liking the change in that case
emberdione Jun 22nd 2010 2:26PM
Agreed.
This is far and away better than all of the other previous incarnations of holiday bosses.
Personally, it has made the holiday so much better for me.
Many thanks to Blizzard.

There is nothing better.
Unless, of course, you care about getting the rare drops said boss has.
Which is the aim of many, many players. Especially the sort that collect, that care about achievements and holiday events in the first place.

This is a much better system, although I do miss giving horde some trouble at the various summoning stones for these events. 2 easy frost badges a day? yes please!
xxxsnowflamexxx Jun 22nd 2010 10:45AM
I'll miss giving the alliance a hard time too ;D
But in all honesty, I love the new system except for one thing. I"m REALLY gonna miss the walk to the scarlet monestary during hallow's end. The bodies hanging for the trees on the way there? Priceless
Bronwyn Jun 22nd 2010 11:23AM
Come to think of it, I'm going to miss hanging out at Scarlet Monastery during Hallows End and interacting with the other faction. That was always kinda fun.
PirateHunter Jun 22nd 2010 12:58PM
I kind of miss the whole PvP getting inside the instance thing. There have been many epic battles to get inside Scarlet Monastery or Blackrock, and being able to jump right in from Dala doesn't seem the same.
This year there was no, 'I've got my PvP gear on and I'm goin' in!', no 'no chance of a summon, the horde are here', and no taking 6 corpse runs to get inside.
lemur Jun 22nd 2010 4:38PM
Thanks guys. You just made my day. I am so happy I will never have to be chased down by Horde on my way into SM it makes me want to cry tears of joy.
Aikou Jun 22nd 2010 9:09AM
I love it! Its incredibly useful. the days are gone when u had to find the group and have everyone make their way to the instance. I hope they implement this on every holiday boss.
