I made this just for blizzard. Here is what we all expect at this point.

The main issue with Patch 3.3.5 seems to be that yet again the maintenance has been broked up and has had to be extended until 4pm Pacific.
Fail.
Piraka Jun 22nd 2010 6:33PM
What's fail is your use of the word broked.
SamLowry Jun 22nd 2010 7:02PM
What's fail is that Blizzard's had 13 hours to work on the servers and at 7pm, EST, they're still down.
Applying a bug-ridden patch during a holiday? Are they really that stupid?
ltdigg Jun 22nd 2010 7:10PM
now we are add another hour of waiting...FAIL
Servetus Jun 22nd 2010 7:25PM
@SamLowry, Blizzard is not stupid. They are a bit arrogant, honestly. (I'm sure the fanbois will vote me down for saying that, but it's the absolute truth. I have known, personally known, like in real life, four people who have worked or are still working for Blizzard. It's a very Apple-like bunch. They are completely convinced that they are extremely smart, smarter than you and I, and it does lead to a wee touch of arrogance. I'm guessing that developing the world's most successful PC games will do that to you.)
Anyway, as has been mentioned elsewhere, the impending release of Starcraft II forced Blizzard into taking Real ID live. Clearly, it wasn't ready yet. But they simply did not have a choice. They'd committed to this cross-game chat capability and the first title out the door to have it is almost on shelves. Ergo, time for WoW to get it. /shrug
I'm wondering what the urgency for cross-game chat was. Is it that Blizzard fears SC2 will pull players from WoW, and they want to give that "Big Blizzard World" feeling, so that people keep their WoW subs active even when playing SC2? What's driving this? I can only speak for myself, but I've never once cared what someone is doing on a server other than the one I'm logged in to at the moment.
So it's time to watch TV. Or, actually, in my case play a little LOTRO. Remember, folks, TRUE addicts have a backup game!
Kaylek Jun 22nd 2010 7:36PM
Their want for cross game chatting comes from Activision wanting Battle.net to compete with Xbox Live (which has cross game chatting). So, Battle.net must have Xbox Live has. I wonder if we can expect to see a community arcade down the line too.

You'd think a bollixed patch like this one would erode some of that arrogance--especially if Blizzard would actually impose some punishments on programmers who screw up so badly.
It's rather astonishing to go back and read the account in Levy's "Hackers" about how Steve Jobs found a 15-second startup time for the prototype Mac to be completely unacceptable, and would harangue the programmers about how each wasted second would force millions of Mac users to just sit there, staring at a blank screen, wasting precious seconds of their life each and every day until the computer was finally functional. Only ten seconds was good enough, and he kept at them until they indeed got it down to ten.
I'm assuming Bill Gates never had that conversation with his programmers.
NobleArc, The Lazy Canadian Jun 22nd 2010 6:05PM
Oh yeah, so now my Glyph of Eternal Water is useless. I just wish I could log in at all, now it's saying that it'll be 4 PM 'til maintenance is done. Possibly.
Zhiva Jun 22nd 2010 6:16PM
Don't worry, nothing changed - it always was that way.
Sleutel Jun 22nd 2010 6:41PM
Without actually seeing what's going on, this appears to simply be an articulation of the issues that have been appearing since the glyph was introduced (e.g., the pet doesn't disappear when you mount).
fish Jun 22nd 2010 6:06PM
it's patch day, you know it's gonna be a long one.
TR Jun 22nd 2010 6:10PM
Yep. They just did an update to the ETA: They're now shooting for 4 PM PDT instead of 3 PM PDT.
TR Jun 22nd 2010 6:21PM
My bad. It's not an ETA at all. It just says they'll provide another update at 4 PM EDT. Kinda saves them the "oops" of having said it'll be up if it's still down at 4:30 PM EDT.
Daethar Jun 22nd 2010 6:31PM
See, Blizzard, this is what happens when you take the scorchling pet out of the game! Everything goes haywire!
I'm sure if you put the little pet back, all these issues will be fixed.... yes... >.>
naseem jones Jun 22nd 2010 6:05PM
how do you know this issues exist when we cant even log on to the game?
TR Jun 22nd 2010 6:07PM
That's another known issue they're working on. :)
Aslives4hockey Jun 22nd 2010 6:08PM
This is pretty pathetic, why launch a patch with bugs that can be game breaking to many people. I really thought Blizzard was beyond the point of releasing half-baked patches.
Marky Jun 22nd 2010 6:18PM
I agree, it's pretty pathetic. I've been saying for a while now it's time Blizzard started laying out some corporate standards and sticking to them like the other businesses in their industry do. They produce some great stuff, but to be completely honest the developers and community managers act like spoilt children far too often. Clear timelines need to be established and Blizzard employees need to learn how to follow them WITHOUT a hundred bugs.
This is just disgraceful.
Magma Jun 22nd 2010 6:35PM
They have no choice due to starcraft launching in a week. B.net needed to be up and running. Obviously it doesn't help that they waited so long before even doing this patch.
