Unfortunately this "people you already know" argument falls flat on it's face when you look at Blizzards own FAQ.
They explicitly say: 'In addition, players who are Real ID friends with that player will be able to see your name in a “friends of friends” list'
So while you may have friended your classmate because you know him, do you really know if has has a psycho axe wielding guild drama queen who wants to get even on his friends list?
