WoW.com's guide to Ahune
Lord Ahune, the Frost Lord, hates fire. We, however, love fire! We're celebrating fire for two weeks, and this party pooper needs to go. The great Kinaesthesia, who created the excellent Marrowgar hard mode and Lich King tutorial videos for WoW.com, has made an excellent video guiding players through the Ahune fight. The Ahune fight isn't terribly complicated, but for newer players, players experiencing the Midsummer Fire Festival for the first time, or just people who love Kinesthesia's boss tutorials, the video is definitely worth a watch. Check it out!

Ahune is real easy (assuming your healer isn't /afk d/c), but I love Kinaesthesia's guides, and this one is very entertaining. Keep up the great work. :)

Oh, one quick thing he didn't mention: Pretty much everything in there is Immune to frost damage. So DK's have to basically forget about icy touch, and frost mages should be spamming frostfire bolt. Probably more of an issue for DK's, especially tank DK's, because Icy Touch is so integral to pretty much every DK. I believe this would also make them immune to howling blast, so if you are a frost DK, i'd recommend switching to an offspec that isn't frost if you have one.

Found out the hard way that it was all immune to frost, on my frost dk tank >.>
I just switched to using death and decay > plague strike > pestilence > blood boil and kept aggro easy enough.
but yea, if you have a unholy or blood spec (even if it's not a tank spec) it's easy enough to switch to a dps spec and tank it. besides, the little adds die so quick you hardly need a tank =p

I'd say that his immunity to frost, while more it effects any DK pretty heavily, clearly hits frost mages hardest. Almost all of us frost mages out there are frost mages because we love frost of all the specs. We don't spec into it because we love the high damage (although seldom does a heroic go by where my mage isn't top dps, on both trash and bosses, and i'll typically be top-mage on the VoA pugs i'll do), but because we love being frost. You might think "well, a 2 second cast is a 2 second cast, whether an ice bolt or a fiery orb shoots out at the end" don't understand what that icy blast means to a frost mage. FFB is, in terms of function, probably a stronger substitute for FrB than leaving IT out of the rotation and switching frost strike to death coil, but for any frost mage out there, you might as well respec or just give up on the holiday boss, since it's just not there.
Shame on blizzard for the oversight (damnation on them if they considered changing it, but decided it wasn't worth it). While it does uphold logic and lore, it really screws a large number of players out of their enjoyment of the holiday boss.

It's a fun, frantic fight, but I can't imagine why you would need a guide. When I completed it last night on my warrior who's gear score is a grand total of 4300, two people in my random group got the achievement for their first Level 80 raid/dungeon emblem, and we still killed the exposed crystal on the first go. Still, I watched the video and it's pretty good - just kinda redundant is all.

It looks like he did it for fun. Just enjoy it as more of a commentary/documentary on the action, and don't worry about the utility of it. :)

I think they're basically just planning on continuing videos in the future (Cataclysm and beyond), so they're making sure to get the style down. Personally, I really like this guy's videos as far as entertainment value and find them much easier to follow than most boss guides, so I'm glad to see they're still coming.
You hear me, Kinesthesia? Don't you effin' stop, bro. I want you telling me how to down Blackwing Descent and whatnot.

WoW.com should acknowledge the biggest news, the news their readers care most about a the moment: extended-extended-extended-extended maintenance.

Meh...I prefer that they keep providing entertaining updates instead of repeating what's listed on the log-in screen.
Kemikalkadet Jun 22nd 2010 8:17PM
The Ice Stone melting is much bigger news.

Why do people who sound like complete nerds with cotton balls in their mouths always narrate these guide videos? And we wonder why the rest of the world looks on WoW players with patheticism.
Kylenne Jun 22nd 2010 8:34PM
Why do barely literate trolls always post half-baked comments on here? Sheesh, and we wonder why the WoW community looks so bad.
("Patheticism" is still not a word, btw.)

more useful then a pokedex?
yea right.

They could have been alts.

Anyone happen to know if there's any info on this guy's UI? It's pretty unique.
Pyromelter Jun 22nd 2010 7:50PM
As a UI fanatic, I don't find it unique or all that special, although I do appreciate it (it is a great UI). Just from looking at the vid, I can see the following addons:
Pitbull (for units)
Grid (party/raid frames)
Sexymap
Recount
Elkano's buffbars
KGpanels
Prat (guessing that is his chat mod)
MSBT
ForteXorcist (the vertical cooldown bar you see on the left)
Power Auras
The addon that changes the dialogue box, dungeon finder box, not sure about that.
Also note he has no action bars. Some people who have mains they have played for years are so used to their keybinds, they no longer even use action bars. (They are there, but just hidden, as the player no longer needs to be reminded what his action bars.)
zubbiefish Jun 22nd 2010 8:04PM
Oddly enough it's not which addons he's using (I can identify most of them, I'm a bit of tinkerer myself) it's the why behind his layout that caught my eye. I was wondering why he chose, for example, the off-center unit frames and his MSBT (as I suspect it is) scroll zones in the spots they occupy.
Dawn Moore Jun 23rd 2010 6:36AM
He uses Parrot for scrolling combat text, and I think the location you're seeing it at is the default location.
The off-center raid frame is to make kill videos more aesthetically pleasing.
zubbiefish Jun 23rd 2010 8:09AM
Great, thank's for the tidbit Dawn!
I think that if "more aesthetically pleasing" is the mark, then it's been hit.
