I think he must have a soft spot for gnomes...
He doesn't seem to care about the dozen or so Stormwind guards that have been slaughtered and eaten! Poor grunts :(

He's been affectionately referred to as the 'Bovine Bloodbath'. Such a term doesn't come from being 'compassionate' or 'merciful'.
Let's just hope he has a truly inspiring way to dispatch that little gnomish PIA. =)

I gotta say, after Byron is only my second favourite character after the gnome. I hate it when gnomes get bullied :(

I must wonder, why does Bryon want to save the Gnome? Then I got to thinking... it's because she didn't kill him.
Lets look at this. Opening shot? Kicks him in the nose rather than stab his brains.
2nd shot? Flings a bunch of knives AROUND him rather than in him. We know she is an ace shot from a prior comic with her introduction. She missed on purpose. Third strike? She PUNCHES him in the gut rather than slice his guts open. The one time she uses the knife in a close strike against him, she is obviously slow enough to allow him to block with the shield. If she really wanted to kill Bryon, I get the feeling she could have done so at her leisure plenty of times.
And in the end? She is facing death not crying or begging. With all that, I think Bryon see's the situation like that, and does not feel she should be killed. It's a sense of weird ethics.
Then again, maybe I'm reading to much into this because... it's a comic.

I get the feeling she hasn't killed him yet because. . . HE IS THE MAIN CHARACTER. . . wouldn't be much of a comic if he died on the first page of the fight scene.
