Seriously, hasn't Mat (with one "t") earned the title of co-Contributing Editor yet? You'd have a matched pair!

Haha, I get it, a Matt-ched pair, punny.

It may have changed in Cataclysm, I don't know not having played the alpha - but right now the Gilnean Worgen are *not* related to the Scythe of Elune. The Scythe of Elune was given to Velinde in Felwood, summoned some worgen in Ashenvale, summoned some worgen in Duskwood, and then disappeared.
Meanwhile, up in Silverpine Arugal was going "Hey, I've got this book by Archmage Ur all about these cool guys from another dimension, it would be awesome if I summoned some to fight off the Scourge ... OH NO THEY'RE IN MY BASE KILLING MY DUDES I am nutso now! Time to create a curse that will make new worgen who won't kill all my dudes ... they're still killing my dudes. What are these five adventurers doing in my castle and where are all my adopted worgen sons?"
And then some of the worgen got over the Greymane Wall and cursed the Gilneans.
Sometime later, the Lich King sent the San'layn to resurrect Arugal as a ghost and had him spread the worgen curse to the trappers in Grizzly Hills and set up the wolf cult there ... and it's possible he got his ghostly hands on the Scythe of Elune *then*. But the Gilnean worgen have nothing to do with the Scythe of Elune ... at least in the lore as it currently stands.
Also, I'm somewhat annoyed at Blizzard for allowing Varian to become King of the Alliance - from Muradin's "Right away, your majesty!" to Jaina's "I'm proud of my king" to Alexstraza's "Take Fordragon's shield to your king" there's this assumption they're pushing that Varian is In Charge. Muradin? Is a king in his own right (of the Frostborn Dwarves) and at the very least a prince of Ironforge (he's Magni's brother). Jaina? Her king is her own brother, Taelan Proudmoore ... if she can still be considered a citizen of Kul Tiras after conspiring in the death of her previous king, Daelin Proudmoore, her father. The player? Well, if you're a human yes, your king is Varian - but I did it as a draenei and a gnome! My leader is the Prophet Velen or my king is Gelbin Mekkatorque, King of Gnomes! Screw those musclebound hair-lipped freaks and screw their king!

Concerning the "human" discussion, enslavement by the night elves etc. - pretty sure that happened. In War of the Ancients it was specifically mentioned that none of the Night Elves had ever seen a being like an Orc - Brox - or a Human - Rhonin - before.
That was near Azshara's court so pretty sure that someone, Shadowsong, Ravencrest, Malfurion, Illidan, Tyrande, her teacher, anyone, would have seen one of those enslaved humans before. But nobody knew the human race.
And yes, that was in War of the Ancients, the timeline where the Old Gods f*cked around with the whole thing (not exactly sure by now which one is "our" timeline, this one, the original one...?) but they started tinkering with the events about that time so I don't think that would have had any influence on human enslavement which would have to have already been present around then.
Of course this enslavement could have happened afterwards but afterwards the NElves in this timeline had seen a heroic human, their new leaders had befriended him, and they would start turning towards Druidism, a peaceful calling, soon, so I just can't imagine them enslaving humans afterwards. The NElves in the original timeline would have behaved pretty much the same I'd guess.
If something like this was actually mentioned in Last Guardian - read it but don't remember this being mentioned anywhere, but it's been a while) I'd guess that's a lore screw-up.

Also, on the Jaina-Varian couple.... eeeeeeewww.....
They SO don't fit together.
If the Saurfang/Icecrown scene is supposed to make this couple seem likely to us that's so a pathetic failure... Jaina cries because, for once, Varian doesn't act like a complete and utter ass when he lets Saurfang Senior recover his son's body.
This sudden burst of emotion just doesn't fit in any way, seriously, we've seen Jaina shown as a strong leader, a strong woman, who is now faced with a King who opposes her every attempt at civility and peace.
Seriously, imagine Varian just denying Saurfang's wish or even attacking him, that would actually make him seem like such a huge jerk. Of course they couldn't do that.
I'm fine with him acting the way he did, totally, he lost his wife in the Stormwind riots, he knows loss, he understands where Saurfang is right now (although him mentioning the Wrathgate now, in this situation, after he did his "it's enough, we'll kill them all!!!!!" thing because of the Wrathgate... uhm... yeah....). But please, Jaina should just aknowledge that quietly as sign that he is not totally lost in hate, or just give him "That was well done my King, it makes me even prouder to serve you." or something. But seriously... welling up in tears... come on....
Would she honestly burst into tears when for once he actually acts human and not like some idiot hellbent on destruction of the side she desperately tries to create peace with?
That's just a very weak story element imo.
