Breakfast Topic: Throwing in the towel

Frankly, in my experience, expecting to be able to raid on patch day is asking to be disappointed. Sure, it has happened ... I've done it myself! But half the time your mods break, your UI is totally messed up, new features are there to confuse and all that assumes that your server will even be up by raid time. It's an act of purest optimism to even attempt to log on in time for that patch day scheduled raid and the fact that I and 24 others attempt it each patch tells you that we're all lunatics. Which we knew already.
So I ask you: did you try and play yesterday? Did you try and raid, PvP or even log on for some seasonal fun? And did it happen or, like me, did you end up spending a whole lot of time logged onto a server you didn't even have any alts on before calling it quits? Share your patch day stories with us.

Ironically, the majority of everything worked FINE for me on patch day. I just had to update one addon.
It's the day AFTER patch day that things broke: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?sid=1&topicId=25552505766&postId=255502463287#95

And, amusingly enough, it's WEDNESDAY that's my guild's raid day. :P

But at least we are able to enjoy our time out of Azeroth reading the mirth of Ask a Faction Leader, right?

Most addons were fine, except for WIM. However, the maintenance got extended so many times that my guild completely missed our raid time. Instead of attempting Blood Queen, we're just going to start fresh on Thursday.

*logs into WoW*
Sorry, cannot establish a connection. Please blah blah blah...
"F-this." *goes to the theater to see Toy Story 3 instead*
That's how I spent patch day.
Aggrajag Jun 23rd 2010 8:35AM
And is it any good? I hope so.
Trentrollins Jun 23rd 2010 8:40AM
Yeah, same here. It was good, though!
Iirdan Jun 23rd 2010 10:17AM
It was good, but warning: Bring some tissues.
Kaldraeda Jun 23rd 2010 10:31AM
I did the same thing; it was a great movie! :3

I had the same dang thing happen for a long while after the servers were up.
I'm just glad my wife doesn't make dinner like Blizzard makes patches. Could you imagine the messages you would get at work?...
Your wife called. Dinner will be ready by 6pm.
UPDATE: Your wife is continuing to work on cooking tonight's dinner. Food preparation for all family members will be extended until 7pm.

UPDATE: Your wife is trying to cook a turkey in a toaster oven. She will provide an update by 12am that will extend preparation to 2am.
UPDATE: Your wife has disconnected the phone line for "maintenance". However, we believe her true intention in doing so is simply to prevent you from QQ'ing about her repeated epic dinnertime failures.

By the time the servers were up, I decided just to do Ahune on my four 80's. I didn't have the patience for the fiftieth "random" H-HoS run for another couple of EoF's.
Bashina Jun 23rd 2010 8:50AM
Seriousley, what is up with that. I get Hos at least 6 days a week as my random. A few guildies have noticed similar behaviour. The GM ticket i opened and the follow up GM ticket i opened had no rationally explanation reassuring me that the system is completely random!
orly?

I like getting HoS... It's quick.. Trash -- tribunal -- tele out of dungeon/back in -- last boss.
I love it on my mage -- last boss takes 15 seconds..
cygnus Jun 23rd 2010 2:50PM
If its random, you could be runing HoS for the rest of your days and no law in the universe will be broken.
Blunderwear Jun 23rd 2010 4:26PM
Yes, it's also possible that I could flip a coin "heads" fifty-two times in a row, but I'm doubting it. My main point is that whatever algorithm they employ to make sure under-geared players don't make it into H-HoR (or heroics in general) could use some tweaking.
Blunderwear Jun 23rd 2010 4:36PM
Hey, guess what random I got AGAIN today?
Tim Jun 23rd 2010 8:13AM
Like an idiot, I took the day off using bonus hours from work. Was gonna spend time with my wife (who I didn't talk to at all cause she's mad about something or the other) so I was gonna go and get the rest of the fires for the festival. Instead I watched most of season 2 of Castle and checked WoW.com for up to date info on what the hell was goin on with the servers. I should have taken today off instead. Stupid patch day...
zubbiefish Jun 23rd 2010 8:13AM
I got in and I raided.
Poorly, but I raided.
Waltz Jun 23rd 2010 8:14AM
For sanity reasons I never plan on raiding patch days. It if happens, great. If not there is no frustration. Patch 3.3.5 broke more libraries than I had actually expected, and I spend most of my play time patch day actually ungimping my UI. My overall error count was lower than expected(32).
Possum Jun 23rd 2010 8:15AM
I actually tend not to have any problems on patch day actually.
