Mandy Madrox has sent into the wild her first WoW machinima, called Druid Heals. The video and song is an obvious parody on Lady Gaga's Pokerface, which is a piece of music that's come up in machinima before now. The video looks pretty nice for this parody; I was impressed with the depth of scene and variety, especially considering this music video is a first outing.
The vocal performance was much harder to gauge. The creators have already posted that they feel they overdid the autotune, and I kind of have to agree. I think I liked her voice work, but there's no real way to be sure right now. I am, however, very hopeful for the next edition, because I generally enjoyed this work.
It can be a hell of a scary experience to release machinima or WoW based music. I'm glad to see new people giving it a whirl, learning from their experiences, and constantly stepping up their game. I definitely hope these folks come back around again.
Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Have suggestions for machinima we ought to feature? Toss us an e-mail at machinima AT wow DOT com.
The moment I read "overdid the autotune", that was enough warning for me. Thank you Mr Gray for including this, so some of us didn't inadvertently click Play.
Okay that's it. I'm making one of these things already. I can't watch idly as these TERRIBLE songs (and performances) make the front page of wow.com. I'll do the music, who does the animation? Email me at tim@radiocityrecords.com with ideas. I'm dead serious.
Sorry if I offended the creators.. I know you're not musicians and just having fun. But this bad music is KILLING me.
A little repetitive? Also, not so sure on the quality of either the music or the video. I understand it's her first try so obviously room to grow and all but I don't understand why you'd put it on Wow Moviewatch where everybody will rip it to shreds. A bit cruel..
Actually on a second watch with the audio turned off the video isn't too bad, it gets more interesting when it's not just the character models dancing (something you see in every music video nearly).
Yeah...gotta admit that when you watch it without the audio, it's pretty entertaining. The lyrics are great for a first time attempt (they only get repetitive because the song they're parodying is the same) and the video captures a lot of the Gaga fashion-and-sexiness thing.
I think maybe a retuning of the audio in this to bring down the auto-tune and let her voice show itself a little more and it would be just fine. :) I'd watch more from them.
Auto-tune isn't an auto-fail button for me. I think it's often overused, but when used sparingly, it can add an interesting flavour to a track.
Unfortunately, it's not used sparingly here. It's incredibly excessive, and I wasn't able to sit through the whole chorus before stopping the video. Did anyone actually listen to this before it was uploaded? I can't even comment on the quality of the WoW-themed lyrics - the awful audio was just too distracting for me.
Wow, I couldn't even make it through the first 30 seconds, the vocals were so terrible. If you're going to AutoTune (which I'm not a fan of to begin with), you should at least try to be in key!

I have to agree, the audio is terrible quality. If the creators thought they overdid something, then why did they release it?

I really liked the beginning of the video. After about 30 seconds, the Autotune got turned up to 11 though (and got toned back down at points).
If they do a revamp of the iffy parts, it would turn a decent video into a great one!

Good first try, overused song though.

Kill it with fire.

If you go to the YouTube page, you can click the soccer icon to find out what this would sound like if it was being drowned out by vuvuzelas.
That option significantly improved my opinion of the video.

Huge fan of the song's video, so I find the video here to be pretty good.
But yeah...WAY too much on the Autotune.

Looking forward to seeing more from this creator.

I liked the video (I always approve of dancing male Tauren! They are full of WIN!), but...
Yeah, the audio was way off. It seemed really flat somehow.

I agree. The Auto-tune wasn't even set to the correct key.
