Blizzard 2010 Global Writing Contest announced

Yes, it's the return of the Global Writing Contest. What are the rules, you ask? Well, I'm glad you did.
Blizzard Entertainment Global Writing ContestDo you dare test our judges' optic mettle, laying your ideas and dreams beneath their unblinking gaze? If so, submit a 2,500- to 7,500-word short story written in English and set in the Warcraft, StarCraft, or Diablo universe by July 30, 2010, and earn your chance to visit the Blizzard headquarters and meet the writers and staff behind the lore of Blizzard's games and books.
There's a FAQ with various clarifications and a button to enter at the official site for the contest. Two Farnsworth posts in a row. I think we're celebrating Futurama's return a little too hard!
Halgrimur Jun 24th 2010 9:06AM
No Alex, if anything, you're underplaying:P
Does sound interesting though, might give it the ol' college try
Hal Jun 24th 2010 10:02AM
Good news, everyone! I've created a device which makes you read this in my voice.

HAH
I just finished a random short story last night. I think it's about the right length.
Sunstreaker84 Jun 24th 2010 9:17AM
Interesting - the blue post says the deadline is 7/30; but the official rules list it as 8/23.
That's a big difference!

Excellent! I'm an avid writer, and I've always loved the lore for WoW - sadly I missed the chance to enter the last contest. This is perfect. I'd best get started .... when I'm not having the muse sucked out of me at work, that is..
Fletcher Jun 24th 2010 9:30AM
Hmm. I may have to enter this. If nothing else I can outwrite Knaack (in quality if not in quantity).
Sleutel Jun 24th 2010 7:03PM
Unfortunately, out-writing Knaack is kind of like beating Michael J. Fox in Jenga.

Global. Hah.
Mexico was excluded.

This is great news. I had a blast writing for this last year and can’t wait to get started on my next entry.

Poland is not eligible :((( I hope it's a mistake, but I fear there is a gambling problem again omg.. and I hoped that after being eligible for AW contest and Arena Tournament this year everything will be fine O___O
Where can I write about Poland not eligible btw?
Pwnzoar Jun 24th 2010 10:38AM
Does it specifically have to be in the universe of Warcraft? Because not too long ago I wrote a crazy story about Deathwing being summoned into our world by a group of demonic tech nerds, and then Blizzard summoning my characters here to combat him. Would that work? Or is it too strange?
CDave Jun 24th 2010 3:35PM
Who's to say that a planet like Azeroth and Draenor or the Twisting Nether doesn't exist in our own universe? Anything is possible.
Sleutel Jun 24th 2010 7:06PM
To be honest, I think it's too Mary Sue. But write what you enjoy!
Memorious Jun 24th 2010 10:45AM
Yes! Finally the world will learn how great my Fizzlebang/Jaina slashfic is!
feniks9174 Jun 24th 2010 10:51AM
I love writing. I've never submitted anything for publication except for a breakfast topic or two, but I think I might need to give this a shot. I doubt I'll win, but it'll be fun.
mds Jun 24th 2010 10:59AM
Oh, dear.
I think I'm doomed to try this year. Might be fun to enter, at the very least.

I pity the unfortunate Blizzard employees drafted to judge the contest. In the coming weeks they will read hundreds, nay, thousands of entries that feature:
* a half-[Troll/Orc], half-[Night/Blood] Elf
* the secret love child of Arthas and Jaina
* a character that is a ninja assassin *and* a super-powerful wizard
* crossovers between Azeroth and Pokémon, Starcraft, True Blood, Harry Potter, Twilight, or Star Trek
* the secret love child of Thrall and Jaina
* a romance between a Draenei and a Blood Elf, or a Blood Elf and a Night Elf, or members of any two groups that are historical enemies
* a character that saves the kingdom/the planet/the universe, and is just 15 years old!!!
* the secret love child of Deathwing and Calia Menethil
Mary Sues of the world, start your keyboards!

get out of my head! GET OUT OF MY HEAD!
Sleutel Jun 24th 2010 7:07PM
Oh, you're expecting a few entries from George Lucas?
