Breakfast Topic: An earnest letter

Dear Oracles;
For the better part of a year and a half, I've diligently run your errands. I've collected thousands of shiny objects for your weird little god, killed legions of "puppy men" in your name, and yet you insist on denying me the green protodrake. I've spent enough gold on eggs to single-handedly fund the feeding and care of your young for the next several years, and yet you choose to withhold the one item I covet. I'm sorry, but you've brought this upon yourselves.
I have decided that since your benevolence doesn't extend far enough to grant me a dragon of verdant green, I will no longer be performing your menial tasks. That's right, I've taken up with the puppy men. You may have noticed this when I began my campaign of wholesale slaughter against the Sparktouched Village. I will continue the murdering of your people until I'm satisfied that my message has been received, at which point I may, in my benevolence, return to collecting baubles for you. It would be in your best interests when I do so to give me the drake I've been after. Rather than blame me for my actions, I suggest you take a long, hard look at Geen over in Rainspeaker Canopy. This is his fault.
Sincerely,
Soon-to-be Mercenary
P.S. I suggest you think quickly. I'm in ICC-25 gear.
I'm tired of random number generators, especially when I've been trying to get something for more than a few months. How about you guys? Do you enjoy grinding for that inexplicably rare drop, or does the very thought of spending more than a few days trying to obtain something make you feel a little green? What's the one thing that's eluded you, no matter how hard you've farmed for it?

Anzu. That is all.
Heilig Jun 26th 2010 9:21AM
Pssh. At least you get to do it once a day. Hell, AT LEAST YOU GET TO DO IT PERIOD. The rest of us have to find a friendly druid to even summon the damn thing.
Anyway, the Oracles can all go to hell. I spent a few weeks getting my Wolvar transform item right at the beginning of WotLK, but once I had it I went Oracles immediately. We're talking 75+ eggs that you can only get ONCE A WEEK.
I scoff at your Raven runs.
Gundera Jun 26th 2010 2:33PM
You non-Druids will never know the pain of seeing Jimmy Warlock happily riding his Anzu through Dalaran, oblivious of the seething hatred and jealousy and mind-daggers I launch his way because he likely got it on the first try. When you've killed Anzu for the 200th time and get The Boomstick yet again, then we can talk.
I pshh at your pssh.
Whispe Jun 26th 2010 2:39PM
Yeah, the fact that us as druids are the only ones able to summon Anzu,
- as well as having the ability to effectively skip nearly every single mob in the instance - stealthed
- and on top of that being able to solo the elite mobs in the room and even kill Anzu single handedly ensuring that "when" the mount drops "it will be ours",
makes having the mount NEVER DROP even more frustrating. The conditions are ostensibly PERFECT, yet Anzu is always just out of reach. (btw I've run approx 67 times and no Anzu)

And that is why I LOVE Raven Lord. It is one mount that it is truly hard to get, especially for non-druids, and looks plainly imba. In my humble opinion it's simply the best land mount to date.
And I have it.
It took me only ~130 runs, so I consider myself lucky. It was totally worth it. Every single run.

God, I soloed H Sethekk for months trying to get that damned mount.
After many many many kills I got so fed up, that I literrally stopped playing my druid altogether.
I did, after about 4 months of getting the egg every week, finally get the green proto!

Great psychic pain was inflicted just by the mere mention of [The Boomstick]. Special shout-out to [Belt of the Raven Lord]. Argh.

The Firefly pet. I leveled 3 levels alone trying to get it before I just gave up and bought it from someone in trade.
Then there was the time I went from 350 to 450 fishing in the Dalaran sewer and no rat. Finally got the rat waiting on a raid.
Gimmlette Jun 26th 2010 1:08PM
I farmed the pet every day for two hours for a week and it finally dropped. I did that with the dragon whelplings, too. For me, it seems as if 2 hours a day for a week was what it took. Now that "week" was spread out over 3 weeks, but it was still 7 days.
The raptor egg in Un'Goro has eluded my 2 hours a day for 7 days method, however. It's been 3 weeks and counting...
The good thing about doing this is selling all the greens and the occasional world drop I get from farming.
Brasson Jun 26th 2010 10:19PM
I killed two thousand bugs looking for the firefly pet.
I will not wait two thousand weeks for the green protodrake. DEATH TO GORLOCS.
Pantyraider Jun 27th 2010 10:04AM
I spent a lot of time leveling alts in Zangarmarsh... over 4 characters I ended up with 6 Fireflys. Used one for my warlock and sold the rest for about 2,000g each.
Still no Green Protodrake, though.
Healabit Jun 27th 2010 12:30PM
That rat is a myth :(
Kaleo Jun 26th 2010 8:14AM
I got Rivendare's Deathcharger and my Orb Of Deception on first goes during Argent Dawn rep-runs (separate characters).
sccorp.sc Jun 26th 2010 10:49AM
After running that instance 1,503 times, I STILL haven't gotten it yet. Statistically, I should have gotten it multiple times by now. I finally just said screw it.
Tienelle Jun 26th 2010 1:25PM
The probability of that happening by chance is one in 3.6 million. Therefore, at any reasonable confidence level, Blizzard hates you personally.
Rai Jun 26th 2010 8:16AM
73 runs on Rivendare's Deathcharger when three guildies recieved it within 5 runs, two on their first.
However, my Oracles egg hatched during one of the runs into a green proto-drake.
Still have mixed feelings about that one.
WoWie Zowie Jun 26th 2010 8:53AM
i got rivendare's mount on kill number 203. consider yourself lucky.
Cyanea Jun 26th 2010 10:34AM
I'm over three hundred runs into Strat for that damn horse. I lost count.
But my second egg had the mount in it, and my first Brunhildar daily had the bear. So I dunno.
Verit Jun 26th 2010 11:34AM
I have it on my shaman well over 120+ runs (and a ton before that - back when the drop rate was like 1:5000).
At least its easy to solo these days - back at level 70 (when I got it) one false move in there still meant a wipe.
When it was still glitchable - my druid was able to do the run in like 2 minutes (they've long since fixed this... but it involved opening insect boxes and removing wall objects in the game world) and managed to get it in like 9 runs.
Sleutel Jun 28th 2010 8:38AM
It's a 1/100 drop, so you're still on the bright side of the numbers. A good friend of mine has killed that man a few hundred times, and still no horsey. She's also been doing her Brunhildar daily pretty religiously, with no polar bear in sight.
