Cataclysm screenshot of the day
The latest Cataclysm screenshot from Blizzard is shown above, featuring another look at Hyjal. Are those marigolds? Do we have any botanists in the house?

I have a feeling that Hyjal will be my new Storm Peaks aka my hangout zone when I'm bored.
Pyromelter Jun 27th 2010 12:14AM
Hyjal is such a pretty place as well as an area that is steeped in lore. While stormpeaks has some cool lore, there isn't any other place on azeroth I can think of that has as much importance from a lore standpoint. (Maybe Icecrown, but for my money's worth, the end of the defeat of Archimonde and the Legion as well as the destruction of the World Tree was the most monumental moment that players have been able to participate in in Warcraft history.)

They're definitely not marigolds, more like orange-colored lilacs.
slythwolf Jun 26th 2010 10:37PM
Lilacs grow on bushes up to 20 feet tall.

Wow that's really pretty i wonder if you can pick all those flowers and put them in a basket and take them to Thrall and say "hi thrall i picked you some flowers" and then he'll say thank you and you'll understand him even though you are a dwarf but what's even stranger is you're naked.
Jejin Jun 26th 2010 10:29PM
WAT
Hih Jun 26th 2010 10:50PM
Naked Dwarves giving Thrall flowers.
I approve.
I think?

Needs some anti-aliasing...
Drakkenfyre Jun 27th 2010 12:39AM
Completely and utterly unrelated, but a few weeks back BigDownload had screenshots of the new Star Wars MMO (Not TOR, but one based in present-day Star Wars, meant for kids, and browser based) and it had horrible aliasing. It had worse aliasing than Playstation 1 games.
Let me see if I can find the screenshots.
Here we go.
Check the speeder bike in the middle.

Aliased all-over.

WTF?

That's a browser based game though. ;)
And here's what I was talking about with my original comment:

Not as bad as those Star Wars shots obviously, but if they're going to take such a high res image, why not tick on at least some 2x AA? :)
slythwolf Jun 26th 2010 10:38PM
They don't look like any real-world flower I've ever seen.
codespace Jun 26th 2010 10:54PM
Yeah, I know. But the overall shape of the flower itself seems reminiscent of the shape of the lilac.
Bronwyn Jun 26th 2010 11:07PM
Look almost like an orange hyacinth or something, but really, the artists were probably just drawing flowers and coloring them in accordingly. I definitely don't expect any kind of realism when it comes to World of Warcraft plant life.
Hey Blizz, if you want someone to consult with on all those plants and herbs in the game, gimme a call alright? I'd like to put this darned degree in Plant Science to use ;)

That picture is identical to one Blizz released to the press for that Cataclysm interview junket 2 weeks ago. I know I saw it on mmo-champion.
Found it: http://static.mmo-champion.com/mmoc/images/news/2010/june/catapress_2.jpg
From this article on mmo-champ from June 13: http://www.mmo-champion.com/content/1790-World-of-Warcraft-Cataclysm-Press-Tour
So Blizz is already recycling Cataclysm pics from elsewhere, oh boy. Maybe next they'll use pics from their Cataclysm webpage as SSotDs. But seriously, just something I noticed, recycled images. :P
Ronin Jun 27th 2010 12:28AM
Recycling them? It's a screenshot-- there's no requirement that it be artwork that hasn't yet been used in any form.
What a great screenshot, makes me want to go there. I wonder what the purple objects are on the ground, you can partly see them through the flower stalks.
(cutaia) Jun 27th 2010 2:18AM
Recycled images? RogueJedi's pretty good at detecting these things.
illiado.slalsh Jun 26th 2010 11:50PM
Looks like Chrysocephalum apiculatum to me.
Rajinnu Jun 26th 2010 11:54PM
I am concerned that any of you even know what any of those flowers look like considering I have never even heard of most of them you are quoting.
It just looks like an orange flower to me.
