Mail access being considered for mobile app
In a recent forums thread, European CM Vaneras confirmed that in-game mail access is being considered for the armory mobile app. It is of course far from being confirmed -- but still, in theory, if it were implemented, it could be handy, allowing people on the go to transfer items between bank alts, manage consumable distribution between characters and more.
Vaneras also said that Blizzard is always researching new potential additions to their web and mobile services as well, which actually piques my interest even more. I'd personally love to see guild chat and in-game chat channels added to the mobile and web services. If I could use a messenger program to stay hooked in to my guild and my friends list even when I'm not playing, I'd be willing to throw a few extra bucks a month Blizzard's way.

Man...WoW taking this addiction thing to the next level. Whats next..a portable handheld WoW gaming device (like a PsP only WoWcentric).

World of Warcraft 3DS? Yes please.

The ability to chat outside of the game with my guildies is something I'd buy.
jdduenas Jun 28th 2010 10:00AM
Yeah I'm hoping for a Battle.net standalone client or something so I can chat with friends out of the game.

From Paladin to Death Knight (lolop :P), for me.
My first 80 was a Paladin, loved leveling that bugger up. Got him all geared up too, but now I've got a level 80 warlock and death knight (Yay, that only took nearly two years of my life! :P).
The warlock I got up because there wasn't enough ranged dps on my realm, and too much melee dps (particularly plate dps). The death knight ended up being at 80 before the warlock and has ended up better geared too, because I'm too much of a melee whore and like mah death knight.
I like all my alts, but I fell in love (as nerdy as that sounds) with the death knight class pretty much as soon as I hit 70+. It's mostly personal preference but I liked that I done more damage on my death knight, and I liked kicking ass in BGs as opposed to my paladin.
Oh, and as much of a melee whore I am, I'm also a fan of dual-wield and death knights start at 55 soooooo... the choice was pretty easy. :P

Do you really need battle.net to do this? There are tons of chat clients already dedicated to being chat clients. No need to reinvent the wheel. Sure, it is nice to have something that is integrated into the game. But, I already chat with my 'real' friends outside of wow. Why would you want to pay extra for a service that is already available to you?

This would be great (especially for those times you can't log in and tell the guild that you can't make a raid due to RL stuff).
Quich Jun 28th 2010 9:09AM
I hope this doesn't cost money, it would be really useful to be able to mail my GM with an explaination if I can't make it to a raid.
jealouspirate Jun 28th 2010 9:26AM
I wouldn't count on it not costing money, that seems to be the way of the future for Blizzard (and the gaming market in general... buying as DLC what used to be released with the game).
Blizzard has even suggested that they might add extra character slots per server - for a fee, of course.
It's unfortunate, really. Too many customers have shown bought into this stuff and now we'll likely be stuck with extra costs everywhere.

@jealouspirate-
I would GLADLY pay for extra character slots. And given that Blizz says the vast majority of people don't use all their character slots, I am not surprised that they'd offer it as a paid service. Same with these apps- Honestly, I don't think Blizz would put them under development if they weren't going to charge for them; to the contrary, this isn't something that normally would just "come with the game." This is an extra that you absolutely do not need to play the game; it is convenience.
That said, I've not heard anything about Blizzard adding extra paid character slots; do you have a source to these hints? I'd be thrilled if they did add them, but everything I've seen directly from Blizz has just been a noncommittal "We might think about adding more slots but it is not a priority at this time." No mention of charging for them either.
fearinlight Jun 28th 2010 10:27AM
He is correct in the "buy slots" it was either a blue post or at blizzcon, this was just an "idea" they had...

So when are we going to get an official armory app for droid? The unofficial one kinda sucks.
Flare-Sama | Steam: EL Token | XBL: EL Token Gaijin | PSN: FearDFunk Jun 28th 2010 10:34AM
Yeah I'd definitely would like to see an official Armory app for Android devices.
Docseuzz Jun 28th 2010 10:56AM
It only sucks, because he's not gonna make you give him your login id and password. All the 'cool' armory features require login, unfortunately.
Ringo Flinthammer Jun 28th 2010 12:42PM
There is an official one for Android.

korruptor Jun 28th 2010 12:55PM
They only have the remote auctionhouse app. They need an official armory app for android
Pyromelter Jun 28th 2010 2:40PM
Um, the droid armory app is pretty cool. It's not the official armory, but it has worked well for me. I really don't need to see rss feeds or my character dancing to see what my gear looks like.
Edymnion Jun 28th 2010 9:11AM
Hmmm... give me access to my mail, guild chat, and an in-game mini pet and you've got yourself a deal.
Frank Jun 28th 2010 9:23AM
you mean, like this? http://www.npccomic.com/2010/06/23/episode-xxiv/
Tim Jun 28th 2010 9:23AM
I'm plugged in enough as it is. Something I probably wouldn't use cos my guild sucks anyway. I'm sure would be useful for GM's and officers to keep each other abreast of all sorts of guild situations tho.
