Midsummer Fire Festival: Need help juggling?

Torch Juggler has become notorious this year, as the achievement is not only difficult for people who are unable to click their mouses and buttons fast enough, but it is also part of the meta-achievement for completing the Midsummer Fire Festival and gaining the title "Flame Keeper." So, here's how to get Torch Juggler in three easy steps.
- Get about 15 Juggling Torches. For five Burning Blossoms, the holiday's currency gained through honoring fires, desecrating fires and dailies, you can purchase five Juggling Torches.
- Go to Dalaran. A common mistake is that many players attempt this achievement in other capital cities. You need to be in Dalaran!
- Download and install the mod Juggler. Juggler is a simple addon that you activate with /juggle or /juggler. The addon replaces your mouse wheel with a series of actions that select a torch and then selects where to throw the torch.
Download Juggler at [Curse].
Activate Juggler, aim your mouse underneath your character and spin your mouse wheel faster than you've ever spun it before. Is this cheesing the achievement? You bet it is. But frankly, the achievement requires dexterity that might not be possible for many people, and factoring in other variables like lag time in Dalaran makes this addon worthwhile. And there you have it. The worst part of the Midsummer Fire Festival is now put to rest, so you can go on having fun.

Even using juggler, it took 6 or 7 rounds to get it done, that's how bad the lag is on my server :-\

Hmm. I tried the addon and as I was spinning the mousewheel my character didn't stay in place and ran a few steps and then I dropper a bunch of torches. This happened a couple of times. With spinning she wouldn't stay in place.

@Kats
You might have your autorun on the mouse wheel, so while your rapidly spinning, your accidently clicking the button underneath, causing your character to run. I'd suggest checking out what you have the button set at just to make sure.

Regardless of which method you use, go out to one of the small floating islands just outside of Dalaran proper. Turn to face the big island of Dalaran and do your thing. You are still in Dalaran. There is nothing changing on your screen and the lag/latency is significantly reduced.
I've done this on all four of my 80's on the first try with 10 torches using the action bar binding mouse clicking method.

A useful comment from Wowhead that helped me out without any add-ons:
1. Go to the floating island thing east of Dalaran with 15-20 torches (10 is too little)
2. Stay on your flying mount, go about 50 yd from the ground.
3. Press your Juggling Torch keybind and leave the targeting circle on.
4. Slowly descend until the targeting circle turns green.
5. Dismount and spam away; the torches are slower than your falling speed so you'll catch them before they hit the ground...
6. You'll take about 10-11k fall damage so heal up before you try this.
Classes with slow fall buffs, don't use it as the torches will fall faster than you and they won't count.

I went into the basement of the kitchen (Alliance side), wedged my toon between two barrels and faced the wall (to help prevent moving around). I bound the torch to keys one and two so I could two finger spam them. I held my mouse so I had could spam the left button with two fingers, looked down, then just spammed the bejessus out of the mouse and both of the bound keys, and just barely nailed 40. This after multiple 32-38s doing one finger on each.

I can't get my mousewheel to spin fast enough, apparently.
Make sure you don't move your mouse at all while spinning the wheel, or you will miss every single torch.
I'll be doing this tomorrow the old-fashioned way.

Last year I just put it on a key, spammed that key and clicked with the mouse. Seemed to work for me, I got it eventually. Seems silly to install an addon for the simple purpose of getting the achievement. Mind you, I'm sure it has other uses too.

Got to say I agree, unless your lag is really bad or you suffer from a disability that would prevent you from hammering two buttons alternatively (such as arthritis) I don't see the need for this addon.
Still I guess its nice that its there for those who do struggle, because after all it is meant to only be a 'casual' achievement.
quasarsglow Jun 28th 2010 11:28AM
I got it this year spamming my 1 key and clicking my trackpad. Took several tries and I may need CTS surgery now, but I got it. I didn't realize i had done it either i was concentrating so hard. Also, managed it with only 9 torches. Don't know where I lost the one.. but I did it.
Eyhk Jun 28th 2010 11:41AM
Agreed.
All I did was put the torch on my bar key-bound to "1".
Then I placed my mouse at the feet of my toon.
After that I mashed the "1" key and my mouse button as fast as I could at the same time.
You don't have to try to press the torch and then the mouse button in sequence.
Just mash them at the same time as fast as you can.
It looked like I had 6~8 torches in the air at any given time.

It seems silly, until you factor in that there is a 310% speed mount riding on your ability to get this done. Succeed, and you can go on to get the Violet ProtoDrake. Fail to get this achievement before the holiday ends, and all your work on Long Strange Trip is wasted, given that Cataclysm will most likely drop before you get another chance at it.
This isn't hyperbole, either. I've read reports of people who got stopped last Hallows, because the squashling didn't drop for them, and that was the only achievement between them and the drake. No one wants the juggling achievement to mean it will be another year, minimum, to get that mount.
malohkan Jun 28th 2010 11:06AM
I just drag the torches to my action bar slot 1, put the mouse cursor at my feet, and with one hand wail on the '1' key, and with the other hand, wail on left click. No need to find special mods for that!
Xigageshi Jun 28th 2010 11:46AM
this is precisely how I've always done it.
never been a problem, and i've done it on hellscream, which is lag-tastic, especially when in dalaran.
baraka1408 Jun 28th 2010 12:21PM
The simple fact is it isn't possible no matter how fast you click each button on some servers to complete this. The item isn't supposed to trigger any GCD but many times I and others got the "item not ready" notification. Anyone (not necessarily you) who boasts about how they don't need special macros or programs b/c they got it on the first try isn't special. You just happen to be having a superb connection with the server so you don't understand what some of us went through.
Darias.Perenolde Jun 28th 2010 3:19PM
Also, go to one of the floating islands just off the main rock, but still where you're "rested". Eliminates a good portion of the lag.
Cataca Jun 28th 2010 4:19PM
Ok ok, I did some testing. I have an old router that is sending bad packets and causes a good deal of lag and disconnects. So I hooked up this old router and my latency was near 1500. Anything over that and I'd get disconnected.
I installed the addon and successfully completed the achievement with a latency of around 1500.
I then removed the addon and logged onto an alt. I still managed to complete the achievement with a latency of around 1500 only by following Malohkan's instructions.
All the addon does is bind the torches and left click to your scroll bar so all you have to do is spin it. That does not remove latency problems, that removes user error and reaction time. If done correctly, Malohkan's method eliminates user reaction time too. If you are still failing it is because of user error.
It doesn't matter what method you use, if you have a latency of 1500 it will take that long to send signals back and forth and no addon can change that.

See, I just bought 10 (I only ever had 7 in the air at a time anyway). Stuck the torch on my actionbar 1 key. Then just pressed 1 and clicked the mouse as quick as I could till I got the achievement. I started out trying to sync it up to press, click, press, click but in the end gave up and just wailed on them both.
Kar Jun 28th 2010 11:11AM
I tried both hotkey/click alternation and mad blind hotkey+click spamming but just couldn't get it, despite low latency and highish fps. Tried Juggler and it was lovely. Anyone hesitant to get the addon should know that the same effect can be achieved through macros to bind your mouse wheel - Juggler simply streamlines this by setting it up for you when loaded and putting it back to normal when closed.

The biggest problem most people in my guild had with this is lag. I told them to turn off all addons and turn visual settings to low, then try. it worked for all of them.
