The video's by Quixotica, the song's by Sharm. That's one hell of a team up, and WarLock shows the success of that union. It's obviously a parody of Tik Tokby Kesha, that much-mocked "sing talk" song about blowing up speakers and such. Someone remind me to send those two a "love note" for getting that song stuck in my head. I'm going to have Tik Tok repeating in my noggin for days.
Which is ironic, because Sharm blows the original song out of the water. While I acknowledge Kesha's vocal style as being iconic, I much prefer Sharm's tendency to sing her songs. (I'm a traditionalist.) Not only does Sharm pay sufficient homage to the original song, but she manages to lace it with actual singing talent. Quixotica's beautiful video work is fun and engaging as always.
The lyrics could have maybe used a little more polish, but WarLock is a strong parody. It's definitely going to be one of my favorites, as great parodies have been a little lacking lately.
Edit: Cryssy was also involved in the lyrics/vocals. My apologies for the omission.

You can be iconic and terrible. Tiny Tim, for instance, is iconic (ukelele!) but the only real use for that music is punishment... much like Ke$ha.
I would disagree with the assessment on more technical grounds. I don't think her "sing-talk" style is particularly novel. Among modern acts, I'd almost group her with the vastly superior TLC. Listening to "No Scrubs" and "Unpretty" again, the style and range is similar but Ke$ha uses a faster beat and Autotune to hide areas of vocal inadequacy.
Also, her song almost fits into the category of "talking blues". It's been modernized a bit (autotune, faster beat, more repetition) and there are some slight differences (use of triplets instead of couplets in some places), but I wouldn't call her "iconic" in a genre that has so many actual icons.
To answer your question: Since the use of Antares Auto-Tune was publicly outed, anybody with a bit torrent client feels they are equally capable of creating and performing what is loosely defined in todays culture as music.
We must remember that these songs are not performed by musicians and we must not judge them as such. However, if you choose to put a performance on display, you also agree to let the world judge you as they wish.
I think it was a good attempt. The lyrics were put together well but the performance was lacking. I don't like the prominent use of vocal doubling or the lack of all enthusiasm on part of the "singer." I also don't like that, as much as I dislike this track, it is one of the better ones to come out this year.

I'm pretty sure that Sharm won't have cirrhosis of the liver by age 30 either.

I think that was the author's damning with faint praise.

Wonderfully Done, albeit slightly repetitive, but all in all good job.......:)

@Qot: I'm going to just sit here and pretend you didn't just use TLC and Ke$ha in the same sentence.

Why are Warcraft Machinima always set to such awful music?
Qot Jun 28th 2010 1:26PM
Because they use music that is currently popular.

Nice to see that Quixotica is still putting out perfectly timed machinima. Still waiting for that sequel to "Bad Romance."

Went and listened to the original.
I'll take a song about being a warlock (my first class!) over a song about being a drunken whore anyday.

Wait... there's a difference? Man, I'm doing something wrong. Probably doesn't help that I'm a gnome.

Overused music in my opinion. Have seen it by now.
