Breakfast Topic: Grab it while you can

Some of it might just be re-itemizing the quest rewards, but I suspect Blizzard has pulled out all the stops and made quests -- especially starting ones -- far more creative and interesting than the basic kill X creatures or FedEx deliveries from five years ago. With so much experience under their belt as well as new tools and technologies, the new starting areas and the rest of the Cataclysm-wrought world is ripe for a more engaging questing experience. Be prepared for everything you know to change, so even if you've leveled like ten characters to 80, expect to chuck all that familiarity with old world quests out the window. That means if there are pretty trinkets from quests that you like, these are the last few months for you to get them.
I know, a few months sounds like we've got a ways yet, but time zings by quicker than we realize. What quest rewards would you like to grab as keepsakes of the old world? I'm fairly certain members of the Alliance are all rushing to get their Dartol's Rod of Transformation before it disappears forever. How about grabbing that Sprite Darter Egg from Feralas? The Horde just farm it as a drop, but why take chances? With all of Azeroth getting a facelift, Blizzard is probably going to change mobs and their drops, as well. Horde hunters might want to get that one last chance to tame Echeyakee or Sian-Rotam before the opportunity is gone forever. Quests will surely change, but I suspect rare mobs will be moved or disappear completely, too. I don't think Blizzard is holding anything sacred, which means we're running out of time to grab our souvenirs from vanilla. Quick, what will you be grabbing before it's gone?

So far I've done the Scepter of the Shifting Sands questline. I'm also farming the t0 drops to do the .5 questline (I wasn't playing in Vanilla), grabbed myself a Wintersaber mount, and am going to grind some old world reps while I can.
Clearly we're of the same mind--I'm now leveling my first serious Horde alt to see vanilla Horde lore before it goes away, and my pet? Echeyakee. :)

Evonice's Landin' Pilla
Did not find out about this slowfall trinket until fairly recently.

I’ve been playing since release and never knew about this NPC until I happened to be in the zone and saw her yelling. I “wowheaded” her name, as opposed to “googled,” and rushed off to find her. The trinket turned out to be quite handy for a quick getaway when stealing Thunder Bluff’s flame.

ghost cat pet from the figurines in northern darkshore. i'll have to clear up a stable slot, but my guild hates my devilsaur anyway so it's not a hard decision.
Hiwa Jun 29th 2010 9:02AM
As a healer i must say your guild has a good reason to hate the devilsaur--they're incredibly difficult to see around. As fellow hunter, even though the devilsaur's a status symbol of sorts, it comes with its own set of problems. Like trying to click on quest objects but that long body's in the way. Get yourself a cat--it's much more mundane, but who doesn't relate more easily to a fluffy, yawning, stretching kitty anyway?
zdave Jun 29th 2010 1:28PM
yes i am well aware of the arguments against devilsaurs, thank you.
Anzor Jun 29th 2010 3:55PM
Arguements against devilsaurs? Are you mad? Any hunter worth his lick will sport a King Krush at some point in his career.
Still don't like it? BIG RED DEVILSAUR GO!!
Hiwa Jun 29th 2010 8:59AM
I've got 3 hunters who've all tamed the Ghost Saber from Darkshore--just on the off-chance that she's going 'poof!' with the wind.
I would like one more alliance character to do the Elune's Scythe questline--been so long that I've played horde, it's like a new quest to me.

I am trying to finish my grind for my Wintersaber mount... I am only about 15 more sets of quests before I finish.
Chetti Jun 29th 2010 10:21AM
I admire your determination. I started the Wintersaber Trainers rep grind, and about 10 turn-in later I gave up. The mount is nice, and any time I see one I feel like.. ok if I work on in for a little each day I won't go crazy.. or I see someone mention it somewhere I think well.. look if other people have the patience - I think I can manage to go out there for a little while each day and work on it. Now that they could be going away, looks like its time to actually get out there and get to work if I want the pretty saber. :) Good luck and good job!
Eyhk Jun 29th 2010 2:56PM
I hope this rep grind is actually one they change as it is THE MOST BORING rep grind ever.
Seriously.
Even Timbermaw and Thorium Brotherhood is more tolerable.
I wouldn't care if they changed the mount to a different one and made the original unobtainable. The rep grind quests are the pinnacle of what made quests boring in Classic.
h1connection Jun 29th 2010 10:06PM
well, I've had 8 lvl 80 toons, all hordes except for one, so needless to say, I'm really excited to start questing anew again.
Luci Jun 29th 2010 9:31AM
I've been anticipating this forever and have tried to get the most important things to me done.
1. Farming old world linked pets
2. Wintersaber
3. Swift Zulian Tiger (no drop yet - ZG could go the way of Naxx and Ony?)
4. Tamed the Ghost Saber
I've had Dartol's Rod and the sprite darter for years, but I need to pick up Echeyakee.
Henrah Jun 29th 2010 10:26AM
I'd just like to confirm that... by the looks of things... old world Raid instances aren't going anywhere... and they *could* *wink* be getting a few improvements along the way as well....
*cough*

"Quick, what will you be grabbing before it's gone?"
T2.5. On both my main (80 druid) AND my alt who's staying at 60. For the main, it's another half-finished set to complete (gotta catch 'em all!), and about 20 percent of the remaining reputation needed to get exalted with the Brood of Nozdormu. For the alt, it's best in slot for dps at 60.
Also, I'm glad to learn that it's possible to keep Dartol's Rod after completing the quest chain; I hadn't known that before coming here. Unfortunately, my main completed it back during vanilla, so he can never get it, but I have one alt who left the chain unfinished to keep the rod, so it's nice to know she can finish it off. And that 60 has yet to do it.
Cyrus Jun 29th 2010 9:42AM
Also, I'll be making a few more shots at Baron Rivendare's mount on my main, but I doubt I'll have the patience for more than, say, a dozen runs. I've never seen it drop in all my years playing WoW, in getting seven toons to 60 or higher and four of those so far exalted with the Argent Dawn, so I'm not holding out much hope for the next 10 or 20 attempts at the horse specifically, but hey, you never know!
Writing that made me feel more insane than getting Insane in the Membrane did.
seanthehorde Jun 29th 2010 12:07PM
You can get your Rod back if you petition a GM explaining it. They will more than likely restore it for you.
Wales Jun 29th 2010 12:38PM
Sounds like we will be losing Tiger mount and Raptor mount from ZG :(
Jafis Jun 29th 2010 10:05AM
Scepter of the Shifting Sands. I gots it. Do you?
Kaylin Jun 29th 2010 10:18AM
Yes. I am however gunning for it on my alt as of a few weeks ago. Besides the obvious complete profession books for engineering/alchemy on that alt (dictating that I do at least half of the blue shard fork) I am going for the water breathing ring at the end. I'm certain that cataclysm's underwater zones will allow us to breathe underwater - but if we get an underwater mount - I'd love to be able to use the ring with it to explore the oceans and other not so buffed areas.
I'm also going to grab the ammo schematics - because although I know Ammo is being removed, I just don't trust blizzard and my OCD self needs to have all the recipes. Besides that? Any profession recipe that is a static drop off anything. I expect world drops will likely still be around, but zone/static drops have me quite worried.
