It seems everyone has a problem with Knaak but me. As someone who owns and has read all of the novels I tend to enjoy his work the most. The War of the Ancients trilogy was very good reading as well as some of the characters he invents. The fact that he's messing up some lore doing it is a side product of having to write a good story. All in all I think he's a good writer and look forward to his other works (the cataclysm one by Christie Golden sounds good too).

"The fact that he's messing up some lore doing it is a side product of having to write a good story"No, no, no, no, no. A good story, particularly one based in a lore rich world in which the reader likely has a vested interest (ie their avatar in game), is to stick to the core lore and expand on it or base the stories around things that aren't going to openly contradict everything already established.I do think Knaak gets a bad name for things he's not guilty of, he is a competent writer when it comes to narrative and flow (those who complain he's 'too wordy' should perhaps remember this is a book and if you really want to compare excessive decription, use of mataphors, similies and adjectives then read Thomas Hardy - personally I hate Hardy but his novels are considered classics). However, Knaak completely lets himself down by not doing a signle iota of research into what he's writing. He freely retcons a lore that is not his to mess with and seems to do it with such abandon that it's almost like he's saying "I'm a New York best selling author, I can do whatever the f*** I please". He can't even follow the lore of previous books that he himself has written and confusing Mt Hyjal, Teldrassil, Darnussus and the world tree Nordrassil at the end of War of the Ancients (which, despite Knaak's time travelling mage hero messing about with things, I did enjoy right up to this point) is frankly lazy and inexcusable.Mr Knaak, please do not urinate on my footwear and tell me it's raining. It isn't raining, you are, in fact sir, emptying your bladder sack on my Sandals of the Grieving Soul.Despite his obvious flare for writing, Knaak hides it behind a series of stupid, poorly researched and frankly arrogant transgressions against the established WoW lore and his continued efforts to make Rhonin the saviour of all Azeroth (really couldn't the actual hero of the mage manga helped defeat the villain, couldn't another archmage have done it, did it have to be Rhonin AGAIN?) destroys the credibility of someone who is actually has a way with words. It such a shame he just doesn't know how to turn those words into a decent and coherent story!

Don't forget his claim that he invented Death Knights in the interview with him that was posted here a while back!
