Ruby Sanctum is open [Updated]

We'll keep you posted, though. Now would probably be a good time to brush up on the dungeon's final boss with WoW.com's Guide to Halion!
Update 6:29 p.m. EDT: The opening of Ruby Sanctum might be a bug, but nonetheless, it's up and running. We have staff who are running it both on normal and heroic mode on the live servers. Blizzard is being coy about it, so who knows ... either way, the boss is up and can be engaged right now.
Update 6:39 p.m. EDT: Nethaera confirms that this isn't a bug: Ruby Sanctum is open, despite several battlegroups being down for another day.

Haha, a world first kill while realms are down would be funneh.
Valt Jun 29th 2010 6:49PM
Yeah..
except that noone really cares about 1 boss raid in minor patch and sites like wowprogress update their data on similiar times afaik. so my guild has server first saurfang amongst 20 guilds :I
Was there world first kill of onyxia and was it on the media? What about world first saurfang? Yeah just my thoughts. People, its still ONE BOSS RAID. Theres no progression at all. Just enjoy the raid for while.
Honestly people already went mad on wowheads facebook and all (this rants not directed to you Kuba btw :D)
People QQd that "omg 24h maintance on my server thanks blizz for killing our progression!"
What progression? You kill 1 boss and do it every week because you are bored.

I don't understand why this is a big deal either. So some random guild on an UP battlegroup gets a world first on a one boss kill. Whys that a big deal? It's not like people on any one server have got an advantage over players from the same server.
Mark Jun 29th 2010 7:09PM
I wouldn't be pissed off except that they made us wait an entire extra week so the other regions could get it... then they screw some of us out of it?
Thanks Blizzard, thanks so much. How about next time, since it's obviously so unimportant, you just open Ruby Sanctum when the patch first goes live?
SOBs.
sheets_brandon Jun 29th 2010 7:42PM
It's valid to think that it shouldn't be seen as much of a big deal. After all the expansion is about the Lich King and world first Lich King kill means something quite different.
However, you can't forget that this is the LAST content that will be released in WOTLK, and therefore the first guild that can kill Heroic Halion has essentially claimed the title of first guild to complete the entirety of content from WOTLK.
It means a lot to many guilds, especially the serious ones, and they essentially were promised a fair chance just to have it unjustly taken away from them.
This will generate more resentment than anything since the Rise of the Paladin at the end of BC.

How are you getting it on heroic? We are trying to get it switched after downing it on normal, having one person from that raid switch it for us, but it's not working, keeps changing it to normal when entering.
piewalker Jun 30th 2010 6:07AM
the thing is they make american's wait an extra week, then open it while all the eu realms are down while they add the patch to them
so my point, why the hell the wait in the first place if there wasn't going to be a level playing field (atleast thats what i presume blizz were going for in making the americans wait a week)

@Mark (not really directed at you but your commend epitomizes the QQ)
Obviously this is the end of existence as we know it. Kindly delete all your toons, and cancel your account so you have time to QQ more.
Seriously? It's a GAME people. So you got a virtual accomplishment before virtually anyone else in a virtual world - or you could not do so. I'm sure a lot of people were similarly unable to enter Ruby Sanctum for a variety of other reasons, like kids, jobs, real life....
It's a GAME. Play, or don't play. There is no cry.

@sheets_brandon
Your missing something important about the "First Kill" status. It's not the first to actually defeat the boss but the least amount of time taken to do so when the option to do so becomes available. This means if a European team does it yesterday at 3:02AM and an American teams did it today at 3:01AM then the American team gets the first kill. Yes, it is only by a technicality but it is fair.
Technically the people on the PTR's were the first to claim victory assuming any in house testing by blizzard doesn't count.

My realm is still down =(
Sword Jun 29th 2010 6:11PM
This is madness!
Falcom Jun 29th 2010 6:26PM
Madness??? This. Is. MAINTENANCE!!!
I Like Cheese Jun 29th 2010 8:02PM
Omg. Falcom, that was full of so much win.
+1 internets for you my good sir.
aramis Jun 30th 2010 2:44AM
Falcom = Win comment of the day.
kuri Jun 29th 2010 6:11PM
So what was that about "advance notice"?
epsilon343 Jun 29th 2010 6:14PM
Clearly this wasn't an intended situation. It's likely they'll walk back anything that happens because of this, such as gear, achievements, etc.
Then again, it's Blizzard, they can do whatever the hell they want.
epsilon343 Jun 29th 2010 8:43PM
Just to follow up my comment, Blizzard did whatever the hell they wanted.
bdaneila Jun 29th 2010 6:13PM
Appallingly bad by Blizzard - opening Ruby Sanctum when one battlegroup is on extended maintenance.
nerfduken Jun 29th 2010 7:08PM
Wrong, they are hosted by AT&T and Mizma. They only occupy a part of a datacenter, they don't own it.
nerfduken Jun 29th 2010 8:23PM
Down vote me all you like.
http://www.wowwiki.com/US_realm_list_by_datacenter
Towards the bottom:
"Unlike the other servers hosted by AT&T, Seattle is hosted by Mzima. Blizzard block within Mzima allocation: 69.174.118.0 - 69.174.119.255"
Also, they do this every xpac.
if you ping the authentication server, it comes back with an address of 12.129.x.x, if you do a whois lookup of it, it comes back as AT&T.
