If you've been thinking about rolling one of the new class/race combinations, but haven't really been impressed by the ones they announced a ways back, you may be in luck.
Lead systems designer Ghostcrawler has confirmed that
troll and dwarf warlocks will be coming with Cataclysm.
There's no word yet on the lore behind this change, but between
Zalazane on the troll side and the
Dark Irons on the dwarf side, it seems likely there's good enough reason to unlock the class. Now if only we could get them to give us Worgen paladins, we'd really be cooking. Stay tuned to WoW.com, there's more juicy
Cataclysm info to come.

I would think having gnome warlocks in ironforge for the past X years is a pretty good reason for dwarf warlocks.
Myf Jul 1st 2010 12:19AM
It's also a good reason to give us Gnome Paladins.
kjmd1988 Jul 1st 2010 1:00AM
I vote for Gnome Paladins!!! theres more races playing shamans than paladins
jv_gdesign Jul 1st 2010 12:51AM
I prayed for Gnome Shaman.
Made more sense to me than gnome priests. Think engineering totems that can extract and harness the earth's elements.
Ricohardt Jul 1st 2010 8:41AM
Number imbalances have had class race combos removed in the past (dwarf mages, BE warriors), give us our gnome pallies!
For Gnomeregan!

@ kjmd1988
If gnomes get Paladins, I'm faction changing my Dwarf pally to a Tauren. It would be an abomination. ABOMINATION, I SAY!!

I pray for an elemental controlling puppy instead. Without Worgen Shamans I'm unsure if I'll be interested in Cataclysm for that long.

Maybe draeneis won't get left in the dust without a new combo.
Drakkenfyre Jul 1st 2010 1:07AM
None of the remaining classes are appropriate for them. They hate Warlocks, and Rogues are not only dishonorable, but follow the "hooves can't be sneaky" that keeps Tauren from being Rogues.

Druids could work for them but I don't think they want more than 2 druid races per side.
Kylenne Jul 1st 2010 9:45AM
@ Elmo: How on earth would Druids work for Draenei? It's an entirely different religion than the one they've followed for 10,000 years. And no, one extremely mutated offshoot of the race that goes unclaimed doesn't count (the Lost Ones). People, I don't care how much you want certain race/class combos, there has to be a lore justification for it, and there is nothing plausible to suggest the Draenei would suddenly take up druidism. Shamanism is NOT the same thing as Druidism, they're related, but at the end of the day they're just not the same. Communing with the elemental spirits is a different ball of wax from being in tune with the natural world to the point where you can wield its power. Aside from all of that, shamanism itself is still not terribly widespread among the Draenei despite all the spacegoat player characters you see, and it's still somewhat of a controversial thing in the culture. There has to be more of a basis for that kind of shift in Draenei cultural values for something like Druids to make sense. Yeah, they could do it, but putting in a breadcrumb quest like with Night Elf Mages/Tauren Priests & Paladins wouldn't be enough.

I’m not saying Druidism would be extremely plausible, but it would certainly be the most likely out of all the options. The Draenei have a close relationship with the night elves. It’s possible that there would be some cultural transfusion between the two groups. Furthermore, the Draenei have illustrated they have more ecological sense than most races. One of the main struggles in the starting zones is cleaning up the environment after it has been polluted by the Exodar crash.
Yes, it would be a big change for many Draenei religion-wise, but this is a time of great change for the Draenei people. For the first time in millennia, they’ve become exposed to and entangled with foreign cultures. They’ve also been pushed to the brink of survival, causing many to question traditional beliefs and societal roles. Adding another religion into the culture wouldn’t be an unrealistic move and could add to their internal conflicts, making them a more interesting race. They could do this by expanding on Draenei shaman lore but the inclusion of foreign night elf beliefs could also be interesting.
Now, I’m not saying I’d necessarily want Draenei to have druids. They’re already a pretty numerous class, and as mentioned, their introduction would take considerable attention to feel right. Shamans themselves could use better integration into the Draenei storyline. However, Draenei druids aren’t as ludicrous a concept as some of the other new class/race combos and their introduction could add some spice to what is essentially a culture that its way too at ease.
Also, we could have squid as an aquatic form. Which would be all kinds of awesomesauce.

I'm not saying draenei should be druids, and I'm also not claiming to be a lore expert.
However, just to play devil's advocate for those who say that draenei could never learn to be druids, because it's alien to them and they don't have the time to pick it up...
My understanding is that the eredar who lived on Argus were mages. They learned how to be warriors after that whole Sargeras incident, because they had to fight constant battles against the legion. They learned how to be priests and paladins from the Naaru... an alien race. They learned how to be hunters and shamans from the orcs... another alien race. They learned how to be death knights from the lich king... a single alien being.
So there's the lore. They're not opposed to learning new things (they do it constantly, or in the case of death knights are forced into it), and there are already two religions practiced by the draenei (shamanism and Naaru-ism). Also, the "heal-the-earth-keep-everything-in-balance" oriented perspective of druidism seems very much in the draenei character.
Can a loremaster prove me wrong on these points? Long story short (IMO) is that draenei won't be getting druids because worgen are getting druids. The draenei are already a popular race and don't *need* to be buffed by adding yet another healing class to their arsenal.
That's why draenei are getting rogues, instead. (They learned it from those sneaky gnomes. You can't see them because, duh, stealth.)

I still say that warlocks are to draenei as mages are to night elves. Gimme my sexy eredar chick!
vele Jul 1st 2010 5:23PM
I beleive that a drenaei lock wouldn't be too far off.... if you look at the orcs, the whole reason they became locks (as i understand it) was from being in contact with the burning legion.... the drenaei have had SOOO much contact with the burning legion, it makes sense to me that they would be curious and dabble in the fel magic stuff....
but thats my take on it...
** not a loremaster please don't eat me **

Schadenfreude: This may or may not have been stated already, but the difference between having Nelf mages and Draenei locks is that Nelf mages already makes perfect sense, due to the fact that there already existed Nelf mages (the Highborne), though they were exiled after the Sundering. Now that a new sundering has happened, apparently they are being accepted again.
On the other side of the spectrum, Draenei locks would never happen, entirely because two of their worst enemies (the Burning Legion and the orcs) have embraced warlock magic.
