Cataclysm Beta: Guild perks

While guild talents may have been scrapped in Cataclysm, the bonuses you would have gotten from them appear to have survived the culling fairly intact -- as of this beta build, guild perks (as they're called) are active and awesome. This list is by no means exhaustive, as chances are good there'll be plenty more in the game.
The full list is after the cut, but here are a few to whet your appetite:

I thought that same question when I read that. I doubt it, considering how Blizzard has been about emblem gear in the past, but it would be nice. You'd have to consider that your guild may get the cost of an item down, and spending those extra badges is basically just getting you the item a little sooner.

Hooooolyyyyy.... $I-I iT
Mass rez? Increased Hero and honor points? Guaranteed contributions to the Guild Bank? Less durability Damage? Increased speed when dead?
I think I've figured out Cataclysm's launch date: December 25th. Because this is a Christmas gift to all guilds and the members thereof.

I can imagine a Goblin guild message "Loot those corpses or we'll loot yours!"
"Sacco, you didn't loot your corpses on tonight's raid, -50DKP!"
Bonc Jun 30th 2010 11:22PM
Since bade gear comes from vendors will we get the 10% off on that as well???

Rad to see a bunch perks that are useful for individuals that don't raid much and not just when the guild is in a raid.
The guild mail speed up will be super awesome along with the hearthstone reduction, I can't wait
artifex Jul 1st 2010 1:29AM
Not really sure why they have a delay on mail for anyone, actually.
But yes, it's cool that'll be removed.
BigB Jul 1st 2010 1:32AM
The delay is there to help thwart gold selling, make it take longer to send and receive the gold
artifex Jul 1st 2010 5:09AM
That sounds like a totally silly reason. :(
Someone doing something stupid like buying gold is probably not concerned with waiting 15 minutes or so. Whereas I hate being told when each of my auctions clear, then having to wait for the timers to let the money show up in my box so I can hurry up and gem or do whatever I need to do.
Chris Anthony Jul 1st 2010 10:29AM
artifex, the delay isn't in place to discourage gold buyers because they have to wait for their paid-for gold. It's in place to allow a system that looks for suspicious transactions.
An easy way to transfer gold from seller to buyer is for the buyer to put an incredibly low-value item on the auction house for the amount of gold purchased; the seller then buys the item when he sees that you've paid for the gold. The hour's delay allows a GM to step in and say "you know, [Hunk of Bread] doesn't usually sell for 50,000g".
Likewise, since mailing money and items is subject to a delay, GMs can look at transactions over a certain gold amount or CODs where the item is low-value and the COD amount is enormous.
TLDR: It's not to inconvenience gold sellers/buyers; it's to allow the GMs time to step in.

Actually the reason they added the 1-hour mail delay was to fix an old gold– and item-duplication exploit. It went something like this as I recall:
* make a toon with an illegal name
* earn or transfer a bunch of gold
* get a friend to report you for having an illegal name
* GM will contact you telling you they will freeze your account & log you out in a few min to change your name.
* Mail all your stuff to your friend
* When you change name & log back in, you have all your old "frozen" stuff, plus your friend has a copy too.
There are clearly more ways to make sending mail and freezing accounts truly transactional and atomic, but a delay on mail was an easy way to fix this without major software changes. A true ACID-compliant database backing a distributed MMO like WoW would be unnecessarily (and prohibitively) expensive both in server resources and, worse, game latency: optimistic locking in a distributed system gives you huge performance gains at the risk of some bad behavior if you're not careful. This is an example of a race condition causing bad behavior.

Chris: good explanation!
artifex Jul 9th 2010 7:28PM
Sarah: also good :)

Bountiful Bags & Cash Flow - WANT! Shame I'm only in a 2-person guild :(
aisenfaire Jun 30th 2010 11:41PM
What I'm wondering is if the "guild cauldrons" and other "guild" abilities will let you apply them to a non-guild member in the raid. What if, for example, you have 2 pugs in the raid not from your guild? But they have their own guild and also have that guild talent? Does that mean your guild cauldron will still last longer for them, too?
Maybe I'm being a pessimist, too, but in the summer slump we end up always having to PUG the last few slots since people can't be arsed to show up. The raid-oriented "guild" things seem to be trying to shut out PUGs and make it unrewarding for both them and the guild that pugs them.
scherbaddie Jul 1st 2010 12:06AM
tough shit, hello kitty island adventure, qq more, etc
Fairlane Jul 1st 2010 1:07AM
Raids and guilds are not the same things. As I understand the notes, these benefits only apply to guild members.
Theresa Jul 1st 2010 2:34AM
I pug quite a bit and don't see how I'm any worse off. I would still love to get my alts in on someone's guild run for the increased structure, would still end up with the same time on my buffs as I would if I were in a full pug, and this way if the guild resurrection is used well hey... I'll just have to wait until some nice res-capable class sits down and drinks a bit then clicks a button, instead of running my arse back from the graveyard.
XombieSan Jun 30th 2010 11:57PM
This may get my back in the game.... damnit.
Palshield Jul 1st 2010 12:25AM
Mass resurrection, eh?
I wonder if "drop out of combat" skills and then pop mass resurrection during a boss fight would work.
Tyler Ransom Jul 1st 2010 1:18AM
If that did work then it would get patched. Take the gluth fight for instance. Even if you ran to the back and dropped combat with shadowmeld or feign death he would still come and kill you. Your combat status was linked to your raid's status. If anyone else in your raid was in combat then so were you. And if you were the last one then he would come smash you or reset. Either way and it would be too tale.
