That sounds like a totally silly reason. :(

Someone doing something stupid like buying gold is probably not concerned with waiting 15 minutes or so. Whereas I hate being told when each of my auctions clear, then having to wait for the timers to let the money show up in my box so I can hurry up and gem or do whatever I need to do.
