Cataclysm Beta: New blacksmithing items revealed

From armor to weapons, there's a wide assortment of gear already datamined by the folks at MMO-Champion and I have to say some of this stuff is astonishing. We've talked about gear resets before when previous expansions come out, but when you're looking at such a massive DPS increase between an epic weapon dropped by the heroic Lich King and the crafted weapon you can equip at level 81, it seems like this expansion is really serious about it. Just one example is this level 80 blue tanking hat with 290 stamina on it, a clear sign of the increase in health pools we were told we'd be seeing. The new design paradigm of Cataclysm is definitely showing up in these items. It's safe to say that if you haven't been raiding, you'll probably catch up quickly, and even if you have you'll be replacing items pretty early on.

Commenting fail. That was in reply to Mike 'The Smooth Dude' Senger.

I think it's important to keep in mind that if they are probably trying to scale our stats to be the same increase we would normally see in a 10 level x-pac (otherwise 80s with ICC gear could prolly run 85 heroics in with there current gear)
This means, for better or worse, the the stat increases between levels will be much more dramatic.

And if that is early expansion then how high will the stats be late expansion... The difference between ICC and Naxxramas is massive, think of this one.

Theoretically it will be less.
They did say stuff got overly inflated in Wrath because of the hard modes.

This better not be another expansion where all my ICC gear is immediately put to shame by quest greens. Blizz said that ICC raid gear should last us to 85, and that better mean I'm not gonna find out it's TBC all over again.

Anyone else see "cannot be disenchanted" on the new crafted items?

It seems strange that you go from an Ilevel 200 Epic at 80 like the titansteel destroyer with 186.5 DPS to a blue ilvel 316 at level 81 with 417.6 dps. Who would use this "old stuff" even for leveling a new toon now? I mean what is the point of being able to make it? It's like a third leg. Unless blizz reworks the old weps and gear for the new game content it makes no sense at all as no one will want them. There would be no consistency between expansions.

You realise all our current gear will get re-itemised ? I really doubt blizzard would nerf 277 epics by the next level.... Our current stuff will just get buffed? amirite

You're not taking into account the mentality of the type of person who would complain about this. They weren't complaining that there were upgrades available to them. They were complaining about the deflation of their epeens when somebody who just picked up Wow at BC launch could have equal level gear to their leet selves.
It's not about what you've got, it's about lording it over the people who don't have it.

While I raid for killing bosses (and seriously, I DO raid to kill bosses to a pretty anal extent) it DOES tend to get a little dull farming the same content when I KNOW there's no gear upgrades there. Like nothing at all.
I'm in the same boat as a few here, a shiney new alt that sparkles and is actually interesting to play as there's sooooo much still to be done on it. I've seen the bosses etc but the other side of RPG - character progression, still has a lot of legs on it.
With a full gear reset in Cata all that wonderful new shiney-ness will be there again.
I think an RPG with slightly faster gear churn (where there's a constant amount of small ways to improve your character) could really be a big winner for a lot of folks.
