This gear reset is really fucking aggravating. They could at least make our ICC25 gear last 2 or 3 levels, not this BS with replacing heroic LK loot with a crafted blue. What's the use of gearing up now if literally everyone will be rolling around in ilvl 300 greens that are better than T10? I ended up keeping Zul'Aman gear until 75 or so, and that was reasonable. I really don't get why Blizz is saying, "Hey, you know all those guys that raided ICC for a year? Yeah, let's put them on par with the people that wipe on Marrowgar in full T10 and spell penetration gems." I get that they want us at a certain gear level, but they could ramp it up a little (read: A LOT) closer to 85 at least.

What's the point? Really? Dude, the point is for fun. The gear is nice, but ultimately, it's raiding that keeps me playing. While sure, it's a bit disappointing that the gear wont last as long as in other expansions, so what? My guild still needs to down heroic LK on 25. Why? Because it's there right now, and it's fun. If you're playing for gear, here's a hint: Gear never lasts. Ever. You're never done collecting the next best shiny. So if gear's all you're playing for, you may as well just stop now.

At least you got to see the encounters. I personally spent months in lower spire hoping against hope that my guild would get better. They never did. I've been dying to kill Arthas ever since I met him in WC3. So yeah, the gear reset hurts a bit for you. But you already got a reward that those scrubs in T10 wiping on Marrowgar never got.
"What's the use of gearing up now if literally everyone will be rolling around in ilvl 300 greens that are better than T10?"What's the use of gearing up at all, then? It'll all be replaced eventually. It's the journey, not the destination.... and it's definitely not the bullshit souvenirs from the gift store, either.

Don't worry! The gearscore will compensate and still make you feel leet about yourself! ;D

Yeah, I play to raid, but gear is extremely important as well. It's frustrating to see that we won't even keep the best gear for more than one level, though. Really, really frustrating. I'll probably bench my shaman for a while, just got him to 80 and I don't feel like grinding emblems so I can raid ICC...luckily I can wait until Cataclysm and get a nice green weapon with (the equivalent of) 800 spellpower.

In the same way, though, I was bored as hell by hitting level 80 at the start of Wrath, because I'd barely replaced ANY gear - and I hadn't even gotten any drops from the Sunwell. Wrath is coming to an end, and so will the massive gear inflation. It was a mistake in the first place, and this is the only way to make sure everyone's on an equal footing. Those people that wipe on Marrowgar? They'll still be wiping in Blackwing Descent and the Bastion of Twilight, while you take down Cho'gall on hard mode. What does it matter if you're in the same gear while levelling? A good player will level faster. The one thing I'm concerned about is threat in Cataclysm. In Wrath, DPS players (myself included; my main's a Mage, and I have two tank alts) have become used to starting with their most powerful nukes and cooldowns at the very beginning of a fight. It's going to take a lot of aggravation and explaining, and not a few deaths, to make some of the DPSers understand that they have to, effectively, "Wait for Sunders" again.

I guess it depends why you raid, if you raid solely for loot then i can understand it'll be annoying. I've always seen gear as a means to an end though, a way to enable me to see and enjoy more content. Bringing everyone up to par so we can all experience the cata content as the designers intended sounds more fun to me personally... If they didn't reset gear, they could go two ways:*Expect people to have a certain level of gear from wrath i.e. raiding gear.this would make it harder for levelling fresh toons, nobody will want to stop off and raid wrath first so they can hit the new 5-mans. A lot of focus of this xpack has gone into thecomplete levelling experience so blizzard expect people to roll a lot of new toons this time around.*Tune with the expectation that people are starting cata content in wrath quality levelling greens. This would create the situation we had in wrath.. people in raid gear facerolling through early content and trivialising the challenges. This xpack is built around the idea that we're gonna CC our way through dungeons again and use a few more tactics in our pulls. Also that healing will change from the bursty nature of wrath. If we can brute force it all in our icc raid gear, it destroys the point of CC focus.

The man is a bit right though. All gear you got throughout the entire expansion helped you progress in the newest dungeons. This gear reset basically says that all gear you got after you killed arthas and cleared ruby sanctum is a waste of time. All that badge farming, gear planning, time and gold invested in gemming and enchants: all wasted and useless efforts. The reset is fair for most players, but completely unfair twards the ones that invested more in the game. Not to mention the visual downgrade in changing shadowmourne with a fugly lvl 81 green.

It doesn't matter if it is fair or not it is a bad business model. If you don't want to level alts and aren't interested in finishing off hardmodes (the % who have finished them is so small it can be ignored) you may as well unsubscribe for the next 4-5 months.Hell, I have done this every expansion and at the end of 3.2.Gear resets in BC and Wrath never had you dropping mid-tier epics for the first handful of quest rewards you got. At the end of Cata the raiding lull is going to happen as soon as people kill the last boss as they will know that farming more gear won't even be useful for levelling. This level of gear reset is just going to lead to more people playing other games during the lull because farming for gear that will be instantly replaced is stupid and boring.

You guys are hard on this guy. It IS frustrating to see your current top-end raiding gear trivialized so quickly in the same way it would be for any other award you earn be trivialized by new, easily-gotten awards that anyone can get with no work. While raiding for fun is the heart of it, the gear was a reward for you hard work. For your gear to mean nothing by level 81+ is upsetting to some.
