The Daily Quest: Trickier than a dragon

Here at WoW.com, we're on a Daily Quest (which we try to do every day, honest) to bring you interesting, informative and entertaining WoW-related links from around the blogosphere. Is there a story out there we ought to link or a blog we should be following? Just leave us a comment and you may see it here tomorrow! Take a look at the links below, and be sure to check out our WoW Resources Guide for more WoW-related sites.
Dear, dear Bolvar Fordragon. You may be caught off guard in the image above, but you can still handle yourself around a bunch of dragons. Player versus dragon may be easy for you, but player versus player is often a little more surprising than even a small fleet of dragons suddenly appearing in the throne room of Stormwind. While the advice is no longer timely for Bolvar, lets take a look around the blogosphere for PvP tips for those of us not currently occupied with ... other chilly activities.- Spicytuna has some words of advice for frost mages regarding gearing for PvP.
- The Hunter's Mark talks about PvP specs for -- what else -- hunters!
- World of Matticus discusses leaping into PvP the correct way.
- Cynwise's Battlefield Manual fills us in on rated battlegrounds and how to prepare for them.

Bolvar's cool, but that drawing of him was made by a complete amateur. Truly horrifically bad stuff.
I don't understand why Blizzard allows their licensed comics to be so awful.

Matt's advice about pvp is pretty bad. You SHOULD spend emblems on pvp gear (what else are you going to do with them?). Without the resil from that gear you're going to end up hating pvp, because you're going to get stomped. And don't think your ICC epics are going to save you...I fight people in full ICC epics, and guess what? I destroy them. You're not going to learn anything if you can't stay alive for more than 5 seconds.
You should also research your class in pvp just like you do for pve. You shouldn't just arbitrarily socket gems and hope it all works out, you have the power to find out what you should be gemming and why and you don't have to waste a bunch of gems and gold in the process.
Research is key to WoW, and that fact doesn't change just because you're doing pvp. You still need to spec correctly, gem correctly, and gear correctly if you want to be successful. I'm not trying to completely discourage nonstandard gemming and builds, but if you're a newbie you want to go with what works. That's my advice.

yeah that mage pvp guide was pretty bad lol. it's not even a guide really, just a list of pvp gear that you can buy and what you can buy it with.
i mega-agree ("megagree") with you that research is a large part of this game (or should be), but i think one of blizzard's big peeves right now is to eliminate the need for third party websites. not that they're going to succeed. EJ won't be going anywhere even if Blizz puts big red letters over loot and items that say, "YOU NEED THIS" or "YOU DON'T NEED THIS".
