Breakfast Topic: Resurrection time

Fast forward close to a year later and Cataclysm looms on the horizon. My wife and I have a new, two-month-old daughter, and our old guild leader has a five-month-old son of his own. My wife has been reduced to playing Facebook games she can easily leave when our babies need attention (and not have someone die as a consequence), and our GM has taken to playing League of Legends. But the time will soon come, I believe, to unleash ... the Scroll of Resurrection! Cataclysm beckons, and it's simply too good of a reboot of our favorite game to pass up on.
Sure, there's the little matter of our babies, and we'll probably even have less time to play the game -- but didn't World of Warcraft transform into the casual player's MMO since the time everybody up and left? Sure, maybe we'll miss out on Horde-side server firsts or skip some hard mode achievements this time around, but how can old players resist the charm of a revamped Azeroth? Maybe we'll just take our time leveling our goblins. My wife, who isn't sold on the not-quite-attractive-as-belfs goblin females, had her ears perk up at the mention of Best Deals Anywhere, the goblin racial that grants a faction-best 20% discount with any vendor. Her love for moneymaking also likes the idea of the remote auction house for the iPhone (though she balks at the real-money subscription cost). The trap is set.
Soon, I will launch a wave of Scrolls of Resurrection, mass resurrecting unsuspecting friends and getting them back into Azeroth just in time to see Deathwing rend the world asunder. It's the perfect time. Right before patch 4.0 hits, GearScore won't matter, and it will be an event that simply cannot be missed. I rub my hands in scheming glee. Do you have plans to bring old friends back into the game? Or are you an old player who will finally rise again? What features of Cataclysm will you use to entice old players to play once more? Deathwing is upon us. It's time to bring old warriors back for reinforcements.

I'll be putting the final touches to my master thesis over the summer and I plan on returning to Azeroth. My old toons are a bit undergeared for todays raiding scene, so I'll try and gear them up in guildruns if they're lacking a last spot contender, but focus on levelling alts.
I'd really liked to have a sword and board style tank for a while, and though pallys seem to be all the craze at the moment I think I'll stick with a Dorf Warrior. I already has a bear and a death knight, but there's just something about smashing a rectangular piece of metal into a mobs face to get its attention :)
Also, a clothie dps caster are in the pipeline. Dunno, if Warlock, mage or shadowpriest will be the choice, though. Anyone with some advice here?
Anyways, thanks for a lovely site and interesting comments :)

I found a shadow priest a good introduction to clothies; being able to shield yourself to reduce pushback (and horrible damage) makes it a lot easier to adjust to spells with a cast time. A Frost mage's Icy Barrier does the same thing. Mages are generally more fragile than spriests, but have a bigger bag of tricks than spriests.
I don't have a warlock yet so I can't really comment on those.

Warlocks smell bad and are emo. Bad choice for anything. Mages are awesome. SPriests are fine.

Isn't that for vanilla accounts only?
Goarther Jul 4th 2010 9:13AM
If you click the link it says that they get a free 10 day trial of BC

Yes and no; Cataclysm will reform old Azeroth as well, giving players who purchased only Classic WoW the ability to see these areas as well.
It is true that you cannot select the new Races or new Race / Class combinations.

I hate to say it, but this service when I tried it at least, only allows for accounts of "Vanilla" status. (i.e non upgraded accounts to tbc or wotlk) It does not work for any upgraded accounts sadly.

If one of my friends ever left wow I respect their choice and keep them happy.
Because most of the time all they did was whine all day "how unbalanced, frustrating and filled with idiots it was". Do I want to get them back to burden them more and get me listening all day about flavor of the months frustrating them to the bits? Nope!
My friend left wow who I met on wow. My friend was on alliance side who I met on my 2-year "havent played alliance before" alt. She hit 80, got all emblem gear and some T10 etc. "BiS" gear you could get from heroics, badges, even pvp vendors.. but did my friend ever got into raids that are super hard like toc? No way. "Too low GS" and no achi (because overgearing content is fun).
Do I want to get my friend back? I would love to run instances and everything but I already faction changed my alt to horde because even I notice how terrible alliance side was on our server.
I would feel bad letting my friend come back just to realise theres still nothing to do because all there is for my friend are pugs and im on horde side. I will let my friend decide when expansion comes so friend can level up with the first waves and get good start on raiding and dungeons just like I got lucky on this expansion.

You must have played on Malorne.
Midnighbear Jul 4th 2010 7:03PM
Just what i was gonna say Josh, Malorne sucks...
Valt Jul 6th 2010 5:35AM
Sadly I think overgearing raids, huge GS reqs and achievement spam can be applied to any server nowdays.

Not quite related to scroll of resurrection, but the actual spell. I had a moment last night where I did some epic mass resurrection before dying an untimely death. Rezzed 15 raiders in about 18 seconds, whoo! Go go 1.17 sec GCD!
Felix_rew Jul 4th 2010 8:58AM
I thourght that was a Beta only spell?
kooda Jul 4th 2010 9:22AM
The heck are you on about res has a 10sec cast time
Avan Jul 4th 2010 9:41PM
Who said anything about the beta? Check out a little thing called Burning Adrenaline on Wowhead.
Felix_rew Jul 4th 2010 8:55AM
This works only on Classic accounts, any upgraded cannot be "resurrected"
Pavel Jul 4th 2010 9:12AM
Not true, I just had a guildy send me one last week and I was able to do everything including ICC. They just haven't upgraded the page.

Not sure if links get delete but,

That's where I got my info from
Pavel Jul 4th 2010 9:28AM
Yea, I just looked at the email blizz sent me and it also says only BC content. But I leveled a DK from 74 to 80 and was able to play my other 3 80's so I'm guessing it doesn't get used enough for them to update it? I'm going to send a ticket to Blizz asking them what's up with it.

Step 1: Rub hands in scheming glee.
Step 2: Grow a long, curly moustache.
Step 3: Twiddle it while cackling.
Step 4: ???
Step 5: Profit!
