For Gnomeregan! Your thoughts on the Midsummer Fire Festival

I am Peenk the Scorchling! Flame on! It's like magic! I love this holiday! Woohoo! I will admit, however, that I am squeamish about all of that fiery torch tossing and what have you. But those bonfires make me feel like I am magic or a fire elemental or both!
My cousin Kixi was right about this holiday. I feel so wise and more experienced when I participate in some of these rituals. It's like things just come more easily to me. The enchantments are so strong! It seems an invaluable way to speed up our training.
Did you complete your assignment and participate in the Midsummer Fire Festival? What do you think of the holiday as far as its effect on your goals? Did you find it a welcome break from your normal training? Did you have any encounters with those Horde guys? Let's go around and find out.
Yes, there's beer. Really, we're not going to have funds leftover for outfitting ourselves if we continue to fritter it aw -- No one is listening. OK, then. Well, after you've all gotten your drinks we'll go around the room. I, uh, guess I'll have some too.
Please join us by telling us a story from your Midsummer Fire Festival activities this past week (real or imagined), a lesson you've learned or something else of interest while staying in character. If you are new, why have you joined the army? All the World's a Stage is a great resource, and this guest post by Anna is a must-read for making new characters.

Second year in a row ... no seasonal pet.
:(

Same here.
I have 4 80s. My main ran every single day. I have no use for anything that drops other than the pet and the enchant (woo for warrior enchanters!). I ran my hunter for a week, my Warlock for a Week, and my DK till I got the Tanking cloak. I saw no scythe and no pets.... at least on me. I saw a tank get both the Scythe AND the pet in the same run. He then proceeded to say, "Lol, that's my third pet and now I can DW the Scythe" Jerk, hogging all the stuff!

The loot gods have no mercy on your soul! Let them pity you when brewfest rolls around.

Third year in a row for me.

Makes me want to cry, ran 3 times a day for 2 weeks on multiple toons, and still no scythe or pet...RNG hates me...

Great time to level a character...all those flames that need honoring and stealing!
Farrell Jul 4th 2010 8:20PM
My main annoyance with the event is the near impossibility of getting the Teldrassil fire if you're a lowbie Horde, and have no (at least near to) level 80 back up.
You're dead almost as soon as you get off the boat, and the graveyard for you is back on Darkshore. The only way to get it is to spent a massive amount of time corpse hopping.
I can think of no [could be wrong] fire on Horde side with the same difficulty.

It's much easier to get the Darnassus flame now than in previous years. Be happy you don't have to run all the way through Darnassus to get it.
Farrell Jul 4th 2010 9:01PM
Oh, I got the darnassus flame easy... but considering you need to get into darnassus in the first place for the teldrassil flame, then it's pretty bad

But when you get off the boat, it's right there! Try jumping off the boat and swimming up to it. You should be able to make it to the bonfire and click on it before you die.
The fun part for me was trying to get Thunder Bluff's and, especially, Orgrimmar's fires. Both involve a fairly long run through guards, resulting in multiple deaths from NPC's and players alike. I even tried it at 2:30 in the morning, and found lvl 80 players camping out, waiting to one-shot any lowbies who approached. At TB, TWO lvl 80's sped up in a motorcycle and ganked me as soon as I flagged (I'm on a PvE realm)-- what kind of life must you have if you get a feeling of importance from that? (I don't blame them for killing me, but it was about as difficult for them as stepping on a bug; yet they clearly felt it meant they were hot stuff. To me it says the opposite about as clearly as anything could.)

I think you're all thinking of the wrong flame.
He is not talking about the flame of Darnassus which is by the boat to auberdine
He is talking about desecrating the flame in the small night elf village deep inside of teledrassil, I think its called Dolanaar, which requires running through Darnassus in order to reach it.
Farrell Jul 4th 2010 9:06PM
No, that's the Darnassus flame that's right there...
The Teldrassil one is next to Dolanaar
Artificial Jul 5th 2010 1:41AM
1. Die.
2. Corpse run to Dolanaar.
3. Logout.
4. Login.
5. Ask the nice spirit angel for a rez right there.
6. Desecrate the flame.
7. Profit!

I hate the RNG so much. :(

I'm not entirely sure I like the new 'bag system' that they came up with for the holiday bosses. Sure, it makes it so that you don't have to roll against people for the pet or scythe but only having 1 chance a day instead of 5 seems meh to me. I ran it every day on all of my 6 80's and I saw 3 pets and 2 scythes. Of course I didn't get a pet on my main who's my pet collector which irritated me. Really wish they had made the pet BoA or something. QQ. This pet collector is a sad panda for sure. Other than that I liked how you could run it over and over again if you needed a cloak, that part was better.
Vanz Jul 4th 2010 8:25PM
It really doesn't make a difference since they increased the drop rates to match the 5 chances you got in the previous years.
Flutterby Jul 4th 2010 8:27PM
Yeah, but it still seriously changed if I was able to seriously farm the pet or not. For the v-day event the group I ran with had almost 25 man raid full of alts and what not to use summons on so the pet was much easier to obtain on my main than relying completely on RNG. Which is bothersome if you're a pet collector.
Tribunal Jul 4th 2010 8:47PM
I will be sad when I can't solo the HH using anyone willing to spare them's alt summons, that mount is probably my favorite thing ever and one of the few I've seriously tried for to elude me.
theRaptor Jul 4th 2010 9:25PM
You aren't meant to farm. That's the point. With all the changes Blizzard are making in Cataclysm (10/25 man raid on same lock out, limit on badges you can get per week so that raiders don't feel compelled to do heroics, bags for holiday bosses) it is clear that Blizzard don't want people to farm like we used to.
I guess they got sick of all the media about idiots wasting their lives playing WoW 24/7.
Flutterby Jul 4th 2010 9:29PM
Well, regardless of what we are and aren't supposed to do. It's irritating that my main is stuck at 131 instead of 132 pets and I have it on alts I barely play. >.< I understand they want to make the game more casual in ways, but some aspects really are annoying. I'm happy about only having to do either 25 man or 10 man raids. Not doing both definitely makes me happy. Get burnt out on raiding really quick doing it twice or having to do it on alts as well.
