Breakfast Topic: Did you meet your Midsummer Fire Festival goals?

I ran as many fires as were convenient and/or fun on as many alts as possible to take advantage of the obscene experience gains. There were also the Midsummer Flame Fest and Server Maintenance Party for <It came from the Blog>, which were an absolute blast. I did not get the title on my "main," but alas -- she has been sidelined for a bit while I play other characters.
What were your goals for the Midsummer holiday? Did you achieve them? What, if anything, would you like to see different for next year in the new cataclysmically changed Azeroth?

I got the Flame Warden title! Woot! On the other hand, the festival ended with me 30 blossoms short of a Brazier. >.>
On the other hand, I didn't get the staff, which is a pity, since my newly-80 mage coulda done with it, and its HOT! Well, cold, but you know what I mean, right?

That's pretty much exactly how it was for me. @_@ Got the title, which is great, but the staff never dropped. Grr. Arg. I know it'll get replaced within my first five quests in Cataclysm, but I wanted it because it's so damn cool-looking.
I also lost about a week's worth of chances when my awesome new computer died and I had to use my older one. But the new one's running perfectly now and I renamed it 'GLaDOS,' so everything should be fine.

I got the title around 4:00 Sunday afternoon on my 78 druid. I got the Noble title at Easter as well, but this one means a little more to me. :) (Only been playing since around Feb. 1, so this is the first time I've seen these events, and was far too low-level to do much in the other world events this spring...)

Finally got the scythe on my Lock. 3 years of farming & stress is finally over.
Until I get a Troll Lock

Really really hate the extremely low drop rates.
Killed Ahune on all 4 of my 80s every single day and I never once saw anything but frost badges. What a waste of time.

Got my violet drake, the vendor pet, brazier and the last bit of the festival set I sold back last year, then gave up on getting anything but extra frost emblems from Ahune(or possibly the staff, since my main being a Rogue, I'd naturally get stuck with hunter loot... :P ).
And then on the last day, the pet dropped. Which is OK, I am collecting the things, and that's one more to have, and it's not a *bad* pet... But I really wanted the scorchling.
Not going to complain though, the frostling is still cool, and all things considered I still came out pretty damn good.

>.< double post, sorry. Or is that a glitch? I don't know :(

I got my Violet Proto-Drake this year, +392% flight on my DK is fantastic :D
Ricohardt Jul 5th 2010 8:21AM
+392% is what carbonite tells me my speed is. I didn't add or multiply anything.
Milney Jul 5th 2010 9:53AM
Just because "Carbonite" says so, doesn't mean its correct.
As a game, WoW has set movement speeds depending on certain factors which alter it in known quantities. A lithe rogue runs no faster than a portly priest (barring of course certain abilities). "Trying" harder doesn't equate to moving faster like in the Real World.
Set factors which are referred to by Carbonite are used to calculate the speed you are travelling;
-Mount Type
-Buffs/Auras
-Talents
-Enchants
and movement toggle ("/" by default to toggle run and walk). Carbonite simply reads these inputs and calculates what it thinks they would add up to - which it does incorrectly. Due to the way the world is rendered in relation to your character, and the nature of the flow of information between the Server and Client, it is impossible for an add-on to calculate the distance between your self and a set point over the course of time to accurately give a movement speed (as you would measure it in the real world).
Blue posts in the past have even explicitly stated that travel speed was simply Mount Speed + Speed Bonus (the post was back reffering to Epic Flight and Crusader Aura, and the Blue's compared it to Taxi speed - go look it up). Saying "But, but... CARBONITE!" doesn't mean you're correct, and your baseless assertion is still baseless.
Still, it reflects badly on the WoW.com community, that the informative and correct post was downrated, whilst the ignorant post which added nothing to anything apart from spreading misinformation was uprated to Blue.
Now, queue downrate of another factually correct post in 5...

Or you could just present some factual information without getting on your high horse...
Elwoods Jul 5th 2010 10:41AM
I feel this post need more references to the unladen airspeed of a swallow!!
Iirdan Jul 5th 2010 11:07AM
310% mount speed multiplied by the 20% On a Pale Horse modifier:
310 x 1.2 = 372
372% speed bonus on top of your character's normal run speed. Blizzard has said that that is calculated by Base Speed + Speed Bonus.
100 + 372 = 472.
So a 310% mount with a 20% modifier grants a speed bonus of 372%, and a speed of 472%.
Thomas Prescott Jul 5th 2010 11:10AM
The speed at which you are currently traveling is based on how quickly your absolute position in the game world changes. They record how fast you move when running on the ground without outside buffs/enchants/talents. They keep this information for each zone.It IS accurate, and run speed is multiplicative.
Nate Jul 5th 2010 11:54AM
"On A Pale Horse" contributes a multiplicative 20% bonus to your total movement speed. Since the Violet Proto-Drake is +310%, your total speed is 410% of normal walking speed. 410% x 1.2 = 492%. Then, since Carbonite displays the speed in a "+X%" format, normal walking speed (100%) is subtracted, leaving 392%. The add-on is correct.

I'm going to go against the grain here in my comment and say: Congrats!
Ricohardt Jul 5th 2010 1:36PM
Grats to Nate for getting it :D
Ricohardt Jul 5th 2010 1:40PM
Also, Carbonite doesn't "guess" what your speed should be, it tells you how fast you are moving. If you move up or down on an angle while flying, it gives you a slower speed, since you aren't moving horizontally forward as fast.
Doki-Chan Jul 5th 2010 3:15PM
Violet Proto-Drake here too :D (being on Maternity and sleeping sproglets really help the speed of peeing in all those fires.... };> )
I had about 1/2 of the Flame Keeper (and the summer blob pet) from last year but had to redo some of those only 1/2 completed enemy fire parts as they had reset.
but no icy pet or scythe :( (not that I need the scythe, but a pet would help if they put in 100 pet achievement for Cata...)
