Around Azeroth Beta Edition: Feed the fire
Today is Return to the Beta Server, which is kind of like Return of the Jedi but with fewer ewoks. Unless you're talking about the child of a goblin and a worgen, which would make a pretty good ewok, really. This picture comes from our very own Anne Stickney, and it shows a fiery attack on Iris Lake in Ashenvale. Sure, some diehards might weep for the lost beauty of Darkshore and Ashenvale, but when you consider how unpleasant it is to level a night elf in vanilla WoW, those zones really had it coming.
Do you have any unusual, beautiful or interesting World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? We'd love to see them on Around Azeroth! Sharing your screenshot is as simple as emailing aroundazeroth@wow.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next!
Remember to include your player name, server and/or guild if you want it mentioned. Please include the word "Azeroth" in your post so it does not get swept into the spam bin. We strongly prefer full screen shots without the UI showing -- use Alt Z to remove it. Please, no more battleground scoreboards, val'kyr on mounts or pictures of the Ninja Turtles in Dalaran. Older screenshots can be found here.

I love those zones ... never found them particularly difficult, and they are so pretty. Damn Deathwing and damn the Horde! The guilty shall SUFFER!
I've recently been trying to level an orc warrior. Durotar is crazy with running back and forth, and the Barrens is worse. Since I'm trying to actually experience zones I've not levelled in before, I'm trying to resist the temptation to say "Ah screwit I'll go to Ghostlands".

There is a reason the old horde are close on most servers.
Back in vanilla, back when leveling in the Barrens was mandatory, before the lvl 20 or even 30 mounts, before the flight path at Camp TJ. Every single orc, troll, and tauren had to go through the same hell together.
It made us brothers, except for the forsaken who had the joy of being ganked by Sons of Arugal.
As for your first sentiment:!
Your precious trees shall fall, your fields shall burn, and your sentinels shall die!
Lok'tar Ogar!

I hope they work on that texture, it's a little ugly

Why has no one mentioned the floating fire elemental at the top of the picture?
Either it's floating quite close or it's ENORMOUS and on top of that mountain miles away!
Zaber Guard Jul 12th 2010 1:36PM
I saw that too! What's the deal with that? Bugged mob or is the Barrens being assaulted by some giant elemental?
And, It's like Barrens chat is going to be involved in
*Puts on Sunglasses*
A flame war.
YYYEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAA

That's Baron Geddon, silly!
begedinnikola Jul 12th 2010 4:28PM
That is Baron Gedon, and he is indeed on top of that mountain in the distance. As far as i understand it, allot of quests revolve around him. Also, that mountain is a volcano.

Dear god, what's with the comments here? :O
But anyway, what's the big thing in the middle? Is that a tree, or some giant monster thing? Personally, it reminds me of one of the necromorphs in Dead Space crossed with the tank from L4D2, but maybe that's because I'm insane.
Zhiva Jul 12th 2010 11:23AM
I don't see any big thing in the middle. I see some burned trees and proto-drake mount.
Shassar Jul 12th 2010 11:24AM
Obvious Troll is Obvious.

I like Ashenvale and Darkshore. Love 'em oodles. MY POOR ZOOOONES
Alterigo Jul 12th 2010 3:09PM
I loved Ashenvale! the music and the sense of eerie solitude in the forest....the first glimpse of the Elven ruins....I will miss it.
Ronin Jul 12th 2010 10:02PM
Heh, I read that as "I loved Ashenvale! the musical".
Ronin Jul 12th 2010 9:34PM
So how is turning Ashenvale into a Horde-dominated zone going to help the leveling experience of N Elves, again?
(That's not necessarily a rhetorical question. Unless there isn't any good answer-- THEN it was rhetorical!)
Alterigo Jul 13th 2010 10:06AM
that would be worse than Cats!
