Cataclysm Beta: Next round of invites going out soon

Didn't make the first round of Cataclysm beta invitations? Biting your nails in anticipation for the next round? You can stop biting now. According to blue poster Lylirra, more invites could be going out as soon as this Tuesday or Wednesday:
We hope to distribute additional invites to the World of Warcraft: Cataclysm beta sometime this week, possibly as soon as late Tuesday or Wednesday. This is only an estimate, though, so the schedule may change and, as a result, invites could be distributed earlier or later than anticipated. Either way, we'll work to keep you as updated as possible. :)
As with the first round, you don't have to wait for the email -- simply log into your account via either Battle.net or the official World of Warcraft website, go to "Manage My Games" and look for the Cataclysm logo. And again, even if you do seem to receive an official-looking email from Blizzard, don't click the links in the email -- log into your account and verify your beta status that way. Keyloggers and hackers are notorious for taking advantage of players during beta testing periods, so it's better to be safe than sorry.

Need moar testers to run my dungeons!! And please consider rolling a pre-made tank, thanks in advance :)
Trentrollins Jul 13th 2010 9:57AM
I could tank, if I got a beta invite.
jslim419 Jul 13th 2010 10:19AM
i'll be rolling a warrior when, and if i get picked. but i'm sure as hell not going to be tanking for anybody while everyone re-transitions from the AE/nuke strategy, to the take five minutes to mark, and discuss the kill order strategy.

Do you have to have an active WoW account in order to get an invite or just have Warcraft Universe checked on Beta Profile Settings?
Elennoko Jul 12th 2010 5:16PM
As said many MANY times, you MUST have an active World of Warcraft accord to be accepted into the Cataclysm beta.
Joshua Ochs Jul 12th 2010 5:53PM
I don't know that it was said many times - I was wondering the exact same thing myself. Sadly, I let my account lapse until Cataclysm is near since I'm just not playing much anymore. Getting into the beta would change that, and I'd gladly re-up - but I'm not going to pay just for a chance to get in.
Let someone else get it then, and I'll go back into WoW hibernation.

It does not have to be active in order to get a invite. Once you opt in, your in. It wouldnt let you opt in if you dont have a blizzard game attached to the account. So it does not matter if its active or not, as long as you opted in by giving them your system info and have that box checked you are OPTED in. Because you have a blizzard game attached to the account.
Anyone who says otherwise are making stuff up with no valid source. No where on the FAQ does it say you must have an active WoW account.

Actually, in this thread it says http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=19820323054&sid=1
"Q: Who is eligible for the Cataclysm Beta opt-in?
A: Any player who has an active World of Warcraft subscription, World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, and World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King is eligible. The account must be active when the beta starts in order to be eligible to receive an invitation. "
So yeah, actually it DOES require an active account.
megaakuma Jul 12th 2010 8:05PM
if you have already opted in and have a lapsed account you can still get an invite, my account lapsed and i got one , but i opted in before the lapse.
slythwolf Jul 12th 2010 11:00PM
Looks to me like it requires that your account *was* active when beta started. Doesn't necessarily mean it would have to be active now. If you opted in, and your account was active last week, but it lapsed yesterday, it looks to me like you could still get an invite.

true.. but that would only work for the week that invites were picked when your account was active. if your account is not active when the next wave of invites go out you won't be considered for one.

Looking at the recent list of open/incomplete zones paired with the talent changes, it would make sense to open up the beta a bit more before the talent revamp goes "live" in the beta. Cataclysm has around 7 to 8 times the zones that need testing of previous expansions and while they did a good amount of polishing in the alpha, there's still a lot of work to be done. The easiest way they could grow the tester pool is to give each current tester a "guest key" like what happened with the Star Craft 2 beta.

I want to second the advice not to click on any links on official looking beta invite emails. I had 9 "official" beta invites in my junk mail when I checked. I clicked nothing, logged into my battle.net page and as expected, I am officially not a cataclysm beta tester.
I had to look very closely at the link and even the email address it was sent from to tell it was not from blizzard.
don't bite unless your a phish.
Thorzon Jul 12th 2010 7:24PM
9? That's nothing. You sould see my Spam folder. It currently has 42(!) Emails all claiming that I got into the Beta. It's absolutely ridiculous.
kooda Jul 13th 2010 2:54AM
Huh i use a gmail address for my WoW account and i dont seem to have a spam folder havent had an email yet except from the research survey blizz sent out a while back.
tearsofblood317 Jul 13th 2010 8:32AM
@kooda
the gmaill spam folder is a bit more hidden then others, at least by default.
underneath 'concepts' (I'm dutch, and I don't know if that's the exact term used in the english version) the should be private, travels, and then a collapsed item. In my case, it has the number 6 after it, 'nog 6' don't know the english term.
When expanding this 'nog 6' there's the spam folder.
In my case.... 112 (aaargh :( ) emails I got invited into the Beta. None of them true :
Sandone Jul 13th 2010 11:54AM
I get an average of 15 a day and what I hate is that some make it past my spam filter
SpaceGoatPriest Jul 13th 2010 3:09PM
Wow. I wish I could get the fake emails telling me I got into the beta, so I would have at least a single moment of glee before the shattering disappoint when I found out it was fake.
I log into my email now and its just empty. :(
