Around Azeroth Beta Edition: Flood insurance
While patrolling a newly sodden Thousand Needles, Nadrysta of <Surprising Enigma> on Moon Guard (US-H) came upon this unlucky soul stranded in the flood. He's lost all of his possessions, including the very clothes off his back. "He is untargetable, and despite being ankle deep while still all the way up on Highperch, looks rather unfazed," Nadrysta wrote.
Do you have any unusual, beautiful or interesting World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? We'd love to see them on Around Azeroth! Sharing your screenshot is as simple as emailing aroundazeroth@wow.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next!
Remember to include your player name, server and/or guild if you want it mentioned. Please include the word "Azeroth" in your post so it does not get swept into the spam bin. We strongly prefer full screen shots without the UI showing -- use Alt Z to remove it. Please, no more battleground scoreboards, Val'kyr on mounts or pictures of the Ninja Turtles in Dalaran. Older screenshots can be found here.

Is that a new human model??
The body proportions look changed. The forearms don't look like Popeye, and the face doesn't look freakish and constipated.
/crosses fingers

Looks the same as usual, wishful thinking on your part ;)
Delilah Jul 13th 2010 10:14AM
No, it's old. I think it's from the vanilla beta? The same models are in old Southshore and some boats.
Pat Jul 13th 2010 10:19AM
He looks funny because he's the placeholder man. I've seen some really odd placements in screenshots. One area had horizontal guys just hanging around in midair. ANd it does look like the original human model from way, way back.
Alchemistmerlin Jul 13th 2010 11:35AM
His head is also the size of an under-grown grapefruit.
Arnen Jul 13th 2010 3:05PM
I think the placeholder models used in Old Southshore and such already come with clothes built into the model, though... Really hoping this is a new male human model. I'll take a slightly undersized head over a harelipped gorilla any day.

This is a "Size comparison model" , where the World artists use a generic human male mode to determine the scale of objects, places and spaces ingame.

Check out those abs!
And that... neck.
neftron3030 Jul 13th 2010 10:08AM
looks like they outsourced the design to abercrombie
WNxSajuukCor Jul 13th 2010 10:07AM
How appropriate since Jersey is flooded this morning XD
paul Jul 13th 2010 10:11AM
so thousand needles' flooding is only ankle-deep then? Or is that a shallow bit...
linkers746 Jul 13th 2010 10:15AM
That's way high up on Highperch, the rest of thousand needles is still very deeply flooded.
Pat Jul 13th 2010 10:19AM
She's in Highperch, so it's shallow. From the screenshots I've seen it looks like the water level is just below the tops of the mesas. So it looks like islans in a stream now.
Jamesisgreat Jul 13th 2010 10:18AM
If we swim down to the 'bottom' of Thousand Needles, where we used to walk around, is there anything worth seeing?
Paisley Jul 13th 2010 10:43AM
Naw, nothing worth seeing. The only populated areas seemed to be
Darkcloud Pinnacle, and the Speed Barge.

Judging by the stance he is in and the fact that he is untargetable it leads me to believe he is a level design asset.
If anyone has done any Titan Quest editing and has seen the world designer that blizzard uses this is probably used to make sure that when they were adding/changing the water levels for the area that they did not "drown" players or make the water too deep.
I personally feel however that the development gods should forsake us and then watch as we evolve into fish-like people.
Lissanna Jul 13th 2010 10:19AM
There are also models they just haven't relocated to higher ground yet. I feel bad for the NPCs drowning at the bottom of lakes....
sonikusan Jul 13th 2010 10:22AM
This is a model that Blizzard regularly uses to judge proportion in environment design, so that they know everything looks right in relation to player size. It's actually a doodad.

It's rainin' men! Hallelujah, it's rainin' men!
Sharvis Jul 13th 2010 10:40AM
I think he has noticed where her eyes have wandered, how embarrassing for that Blood Elf.
