Controversial weeks like the one pass almost make up for the fact my Guild can barely get a Tuesday raid going off during these summer doldrums.

I agree! My raiding guild's plans will be declining in the next few weeks due to our RL having problems, SO BRING ON MORE DRAMA! And Cataclysm info... :D

WOW really they fix things, they break things, they fix then break. I mean seriously i get the whole trail and error thing has to happen to get it right but isnt that what the test realms and betas are for. me personally idc for the real id but if it helps with keeping up with ppl thats kool then again most of the ppl i know that play wow are either on my server or on the ones i left due to the long log ques (ex. Earthenring on a good night 800que)! And now there is the issue with the add-ons getting info they dont need other than that given when DLing curse client or w/e client you use. Hopefully things will work out. I am all for change but not needing to get a whole new life cuz someone didnt like theirs......lol jk! (No one wants my life trust me.)

I'd kill for some rolling restarts.

Just to clarify as I have heard many different things from many different sources with no clear explanation, the Real ID security flaw what is it exactly.
Is it:
player A(you) has a corrupted/dodgy add on installed that broadcasts it to everyone else with it.
or
Player A (you) has no add ons, player B has add on X and can therefore see player A's ID.
Basically, I use no add ons anyway, the only things in my interface folder are the blizzard files, so is it still possible for this flaw to affect me if I do not install any add ons?
Colosus Jul 13th 2010 12:05PM
The add-on issue shouldnt affect u but the real id glitch with the whole not being on a parentally controlled acct will that has to do with the real id system alone its a blizz/esrb/battle.net glitch to my understanding. But as for your ? no the addon thing shouldnt effect u since u dont use addons and im not sure my addons a effected by the glitch either i only use stuff like buff/debuff bars purely cosmetic none of that GS, auctioneer, altoholic stuff. Hope that helps u some.

Addons can communicate to each other "behind the scenes".
Addons can see your Real ID name.
Therefore, Addons can communicate your Real ID name to each other, or you can make an addon listen to said communication which may include your Real ID name.
Hope that clarifies the situation. Not using addons means you are perfectly safe.
Hengest Jul 13th 2010 1:05PM
Theres two issues? I thought there was just one glitch to do with add ons.
So basically even without add ons people will be able to see my real name/Real ID in-game?

@Daniel Whitcomb:
I think it would be better to reword the bit about Gearscore:
"...Gearscore CURRENTLY isn't one of them..."
You know, on the offhand that the writer decides to change that.
