The Classifieds: Back for more
The Classifieds brings you weekly news from around the WoW community, including your shout-outs to perpetrators of Random Acts of Uberness.
They came, they went ... And now <There and Back Again> is -- well, back again. This Thorium Brotherhood (US-A) guild, formed specifically to quest its way through a farewell tour of vanilla WoW Alliance content from start to finish, has hit the level cap, marked its territory and is preparing to launch a similar effort Horde-side.
"After starting with over 100 members who joined us (in most part due to your article!), we ended up with around 35 who stuck through to the very end," reports GM Mistigris. "Lots of adventures along the way! Foot races through Stranglethorn, marches through Dalaran, cooking contests, random dungeon madness, tons of visits to the NPC that turns off XP ... We did ZG and Karazhan at very close to level cap, and there is a robust kernel of folks who are gearing up for 80th heroics and raiding."
Time now for the flip side of the coin. "We're going to nest within <Imminent Rueage> on Thorium Brotherhood (US-H)," Mistigris continues. "Our starting date is Saturday the 24th of July -- starting zones and guild invites galore! Level cap for the day is 12th; we'll be gathering the following week at Crossroads for our first 'official' event."
If you've been looking for just the right way to wrap up the pre-Cataclysm era, look up <Imminent Ruage> and give all things Horde-side one more for the road. We've got plenty of other news from around the WoW community this week, as well ... So let's crack open The Classifieds.
Random acts of uberness
It's when another player lights up your night with precise play, a wicked sense of humor or unexpected generosity that your login becomes something to remember. Send your shout-outs for those who've gone above and beyond the call of PUG duty to theclassifieds@wow.com. Keep things brief (150 words or less, please), and be sure to list everyone's character names and home realms or battlegroup.
Tagashi, Cenarius (US-H) A friend and I always use the Dungeon Finder to play around, and usually we meet a couple good people, and a TON of trolls/ninjas/just plain dumb people. My friend (Rabblerabble-Fenris) and I (Norai-Fenris) met Tagashi, or "Tag" as we were ported into the Stockade. This was about 9pm or so, my time. Through dumb rogues who were so bad we couldn't even kick them because they were on kick cooldown, a couple of wipes when a mage tried to tank (uh?), and a ton of fun adventures, we ended up sticking together for a few more dungeons, including ones I'd never seen before! Tag was super helpful, and really friendly. We stuck together til almost 2am! Thanks Tagashi! I wish you the best of luck in your Azeroth adventures. :) -- Norai, Fenris (US-H)
Kasie, Zcmadness, Ativan, Bashevis, Greymane (US-A) After waiting the usual 15 minutes to get into a random PUG for a frost run, I landed in a group of 4 members from Greymane (US-A). We got Utgarde Pinnacle and the run was going smoothly until I DC'd. As I waited to reboot my connection, the aggravation of knowing another 15 or more minutes of waiting for a new PUG gnawed at me. Much to my surprise, the other 4 members of the group hadn't kicked me out but instead had continued on the dungeon run and as I zoned back in, found that they were on the last boss which they downed and I got credit for the run. Most other groups would have easily kicked but these four from Greymane make the top of my Uber list. They were Kasie, Zcmadness, Ativan and Bashevis. Thanks for being so cool! Graymane FTW! -- Snoqalm, Staghelm (US-A)
News: Around the WoW community
A thang about Wabang "Every time I run into the AH in Orgrimmar, I always gravitate to Auctioneer Wabang," confesses Grommlah of Eonar (US-H). "I hardly give Thathung or Grimful a passing glance. I half expect a rut to have developed on the right side of the AH, as many of my fellow buyers and sellers on Eonar favor Wabang as well. I'm curious to know if this issue perpetrates on all servers, and if Thathung and Grimful will pave the floor in Cataclysm to fix the obvious commission advantage Wabang currently enjoys." What say ye, commenters? Does your realm favor uplifting the righteously cool Wabang, as well?
Date a gamer Yes, girls play WoW. (Heck, they even write about it from time to time.) Now, a website called Gamer Dating helps you connect with other romance-minded WoW players. The brand, spanking new service is moving into open beta this month. "Just sign up, chat and mail one another, then exchange your details simply using our 'Play Date' system and get straight into a game with the date you've just found!" claims the text of the typo-sprinkled yet enthusiastic site. "MMORPG fans, we're the site for you! We have lists and people from every major MMO on earth looking for partners to enjoy their passions with." Personally, I'll be "enjoying my passions" with my tank of choice a little closer to home -- but do tell in the comments if you end up meeting the she-goat or he-orc of your dreams!
Meet me at SM This week and last, we shared the incredible details behind the annual meetups of <The Incredibles>. Now comes a sampling of fellowship of a different style from the other side of the Atlantic: the meetup of <Soul Crusaders> of Draenor (EU-A). Their meetup last month in England (near a cathedral strangely reminiscent of Scarlet Monastery) was so successful that the group already has another date this month in Belgium. Click through the gallery below to share the group's obvious delight at finding SM right here on Earth.
A new pacifist in the house Remember Noor the Pacifist? Not only did Noor make it to the level cap with strict rules against killing, but he went back to repeat the project with his undead priest. Now he has a druid dinging level 80 to join the pacifist fold. Join Mainchenn on the beach south of Auberdine to celebrate capping his level Twisting Nether (US-A) on Saturday, July 17 at 4 p.m. Central/realm time. Free party supplies for all Allies; Horde, BYOB!
Epic achievement kFc (Nick) from WoW-Achievements.com writes in to note that Bleeding Hollow (US-A) player Iapeto now holds the undisputed achievement world #1 ranking for achievements, the first from a U.S. realm. "This means much more now, as we have added all the world realms, including Korea and TW," says kFc. Iapeto joins the EU's Caspi at the top of the charts. Congrats on a truly epic achievement!
Contest time Psst -- there's a new contest going on at EpicAdvice.com based on questions and answers about Cataclysm. You don't have to have the most or best questions or answers to win; the contest includes random prizes, too. Sounds like a cool contest for a hot summer day.
The dwarf your dwarf could smell like With all the hilarity from Old Spice hunk @oldspice going on this week over at Twitter, we thought this WoW-centric version of the popular ads starring the deliciously delectable Isaiah Mustafa/@isaiahmustafa was worth trotting out one more time. This version was created by Tim Buckley, artist of the Ctrl+Alt+Del webcomic.

In response to "A thang about Wabang"
I can't speak for the rest of my server but I tend to gravitate towards certain NPCs and certain areas for my "business" transactions. In both the Ironforge and Stormwind auction houses I use the same auctioneer. I usually use the same vendor to sell and repair in Dalaran.
Frank Jul 14th 2010 9:40AM
definitely, me too. i'm single-handedly paying for all their homes and children's education, i'm sure of it.
quasarsglow Jul 14th 2010 9:44AM
Auctioneer Yarley in Undercity is my buddy, I usually /say Hey Yarls! to him at least once a day.
Ata Jul 14th 2010 1:58PM
I think part of it is a natural inclination to go in a direction that favors you. I suspect a lot of those people who go to Wabang do cause he's on the right, and turning to the right is something that seems to come to mind easier for right handed people. I'll always go into Ironforge around the right side of the entry, tend to go to the right tunnel when heading to the middle of the city so much so I even forget there's a left side version, circle to the right around Undercity and enter it through the right side doors similar to when I enter Ironforge, ect ect.
Though I've found on a character secondary to my main that I seem to be pointedly doing the opposite. I unno!
hohahihehu Jul 14th 2010 3:10PM
In Org, I always go to the Auctioneer the furthest to the left, I believe it's Grimful. I do this every single time without thinking about it.
kingoflemurs Jul 14th 2010 4:13PM
I always go to Darnassus and use the same auctioneer when I auction. When I'm there, I also always sell my trash to Jaeana, the meat vendor. I like to think my character flirts with her, although that doesn't exactly fit a middle-aged druid.
Baba Jul 14th 2010 5:58PM
I always go to Wabang in org (partly because I have a warlock who can use the teleport to get to the mailbox quickly), as do a lot of people on my server. Never realised it was so common xD
@Ata, with Ironforge I do exactly the same without fail, unconciously, although I always run the auctioneer on the left. What can I say, she smiles nicely...

That dating service....it's like a horrible accident...you know you shouldn't look, but you just can't peel your eyes from it.....
Norai Jul 14th 2010 9:45AM
Ah! Thank you for posting my "Random Acts" submission! Yay! Thank you :)
Boz Jul 14th 2010 9:49AM
"Yes, girls play WoW."
You know, I almost wish Real ID had gone through on the forums so gamers could stop being surprised by this. Almost. Every guild I have ever been in has had at least a 1:3 ratio of women to men or better. Not great from a dating perspective, but that's still a lot of women.
The idea that there are so few girl gamers is a myth.
Aaron Jul 14th 2010 9:51AM
Can I get more information on please... such as a link to where I can sign up? Googling brought me to a page with no information about a horde startup, it was all about their alliance efforts. Is there a place to sign up for the new horde version? Or should I just show up on the 24th??
Aaron Jul 14th 2010 9:52AM
Should be, more information on Imminent Rueage! I had it between bracket's and the text got removed.
jealouspirate Jul 14th 2010 10:01AM
I'd like to know this as well. Looked really fun, I'd like to participate.
Swifteye Jul 14th 2010 10:15AM
Doesn't look like they have the updated information on the Imminent Rueage website, so I'll just say that anyone who logs on at the appointed time and date, has a toon under the level cap and /whos Imminent Rueage should be given all the information they need!
If you prefer more info prior to that (and have an extra character slot), you might try making an Ally on Thorium Brotherhood and /whoing for There and Back Again. We don't always have an officer on, but all of us are more than eager to help, and if we can't put you in touch with an officer right away, we'll make an effort to have them contact you as soon as we see one!
Swifteye Jul 14th 2010 10:10AM
I joined There and Back Again as a result of seeing the article here on "15 Minutes of Fame", I'm one of the "35 or so" who has stuck through the whole way, and I can personally attest that this is THE most awesome community of folks I've ever met on WoW!
The Sunday (soon to be Saturday) events are a total blast, you never get sick of the many messages in General chat "OMG I thought nobody ever came to this zone anymore, WTF is up with the bajillion people with the same guild name I keep tripping over every fifteen seconds?!?", teehee. And even with the weekend get-togethers aside, the fact that there's a firm level cap means that nearly everyone in the guild is within a couple or so levels of each other, so it's usually really easy to find enough people in the same level range to do an impromptu dungeon run!
I'm tickled to see this group I fell in love with so fast mentioned yet again on WoW.com, we would certainly love to welcome more people to our adventures, and I thank WoW.com ever so much for introducing me to this fabulous guild to begin with! ^_^
Kaphik Jul 14th 2010 10:22AM
Coincidentally, Imminent Rueage is the oldest active guild on Thorium Brotherhood too. I believe it was formed the first day the server was live.
Hellhath Jul 14th 2010 1:04PM
It sounds intriguing, one of the main things I miss from vanilla is the close ties you build leveling together. I still remember the friendships I had from my first guild... Sadly I choose the path of hardcore raiding for a couple years and yearn for that old feeling of enjoying the game again.
However the idea of a RP server is just intimidating. Anyone have some useful advice?
Mevima Jul 15th 2010 12:14PM
There's nothing intimidating about an RP server. Just be careful not to /say anything totally out of character (like talking about levels and XP and hit caps), whispering and channels are usually fine. The biggest difference I've noticed is the names on an RP server mostly aren't stupid, and they won't look at you funny for having random conversations in the auction house.

"Much to my surprise, the other 4 members of the group hadn't kicked me out .."
really? that's what qualfies as a random act of uberness? UBERness? that to me is just being polite. maybe that's it though, with the number of assholes playing this game nowadays, just being polite is considered uber. it's a sad sad world (of warcraft).
jonahb Jul 14th 2010 10:53AM
so true i wish i was wrong but in a game so full of unpleasent people it is an act of unberness to simply be one of the 1 nice guy in a group with a another guy and 3 ASSHOLES.
cruel world ( of warcraft)
