The Queue: I like cake

While my colleague Anne Stickney might like a tasty pie, I prefer a succulent cake instead. Why, do you ask?
Because it's made of fluffy goodness topped with cream. So let's take a poll and show Anne that cake > pie.

Hal asked ...
"What's the good word these days on racial powers and features? Have the dwarves gotten something to replace Find Treasure yet?"
We haven't heard anything yet, but as Ilmyrn pointed out, there has been some discussion at Blizzard about linking it to archaeology. And remember too, Find Treasure isn't totally useless. It can help find quest items on your minimap when you're walking around the world.
Slice Sadic asked ...
"Anyone know if the announced next beta invite wave has been done yet?"
Blizzard has said it should, if everything goes right, be done by today. Don't worry or freak out if you don't get in; there'll be many waves of invites.
Pintersque asked ...
"Since quests are being revamped in the old world, are there going to be new quests that afford rep with the factions associated with the Insane in the Membrane achievement to make the slog a little less ... sloggy?"
I haven't seen any yet that would affect that achievement. But it's not really something Blizzard will likely make easier ... it's insane. But all lame puns aside, all the old factions look like they're still going to be here, so I'd assume they're at least going to keep the same level of difficulty in earning those reps.
Aeryk asked ...
"Are the new goblin and worgen racial mounts available to other races at exalted rep like all the other racial mounts? I'd love to get a goblin roadster for my undead rogue engineer."
If Blizzard follows the previous model, yes, those mounts would be available if you reach exalted with the race's faction. However, the goblin and worgen mounts are not even in the game yet, so we'll have to wait a while to know for sure.
Leo asked ...
"If you were ever banned, for say 3 hours for naming your hunter pet inappropriately, are you screwed from getting a beta key?"
If I had to guess, I'd say no. Blizzard has always said your account has to "be in good standing" to get into betas, but that likely means it just has to be paid up and not banned. They might issue some restrictions, but I do know people who've said they've been suspended from the game and were in the beta ... but they might have been lying about being suspended. You can try asking on the forums and seeing if a blue replies to you. They'd know for sure.

Ladies and gentlemen!
You can't imagine the rapture in store, just inside of this door!
There you'll sample Mrs. Lovett's meat pies, savory and sweet pies, as you'll see!
You who eat pies, Mrs. Lovett's meat pies conjure up the treat pies used to be!

Do we know anything about the southern hemisphere of Azeroth? Northrend is obviously pretty close to the north pole, but the southern tips of Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor are both quite tropical. Have we ever seen hints of what kingdoms, races, and future expansion bosses might be lurking below the equator?
Similarly, when the Outlands were shattered were those all the bits of planet that were left? Is there any suggestion of another chunk of mismatched terrain zones floating somewhere in the Twisting Nether, and if there is, what sort of creatures and cultures might we expect to see there from hints already in the game?

Honestly, it depends. The "original"cakes, like vanilla, chocolate, and similar are boring, and usually unappealing. However, apple cakes are good. So are pancakes. Oh, and cheesecake, although depending on if a crust was used, could be considered a pie.
On the other hand, cakes can only be sweet and still be good. Have you ever heard of a meat cake? No? Of course not. However, you have heard of meat pies, and hamburger pies right? Of course. There is also apple pie.
All in all, depends on what type.

What's the status of Rivendare's deathcharger, the Wintersaber/Venomhide, the ZG mounts, and the Argent Tourney in the beta? Has anything changed with them? I imagine there've been changes to Stratholme at least...
Drakkenfyre Jul 15th 2010 12:45PM
I don't get why people ask about the Venomhide mounts. Horde players asked for it for years, and they finally put it in. It was a huge deal in the patch that they went in. They JUST put them in, why would they remove them now?
transrelativity Jul 15th 2010 6:01PM
Same for the Naxx drakes, and look what happened to them.
Drakkenfyre Jul 15th 2010 6:58PM
Big, BIG difference there.
One is a raid/Achievement reward where levels can make them easy to get. Same as the Armani Warbear.
The other is a rep-grind mount equivalent to make up for one side having a mount SINCE THE GAME CAME OUT.
They are two completely different things. The Venomhide Ravasaurs are the equivalent of the Winterspring Frost Saber. You have to grind out the quests. No matter what your level was, the Winterspring Frost Saber was a mind-numbing grind. Doing the repeatable quest over and over literally took you 50 hours to get the required rep. Once you hit level 60, going any higher just shaved off a little time in killing the quest enemies. The Venomhide Ravasaur is much, much easier to get, and makes up for one side having a mount like that for years. While being level 85 would make the other mounts much easier to get.
So to ask whether or not they would remove that, after knowing the whole purpose of it being put in, is ridiculous.
I have no problems with your other questions, it's just I am tired of seeing people ask about the Venomhide Ravasaurs since they were just put into the game. It's not like Blizzard removes every single mount they introduce. Otherwise we would be stripped down to no mounts every expansion. Look at the ones they remove. It's always a time-based/Achievement based reward they want to keep rare.

Has there been any mention in the Beta about Talbard storage?
Arednel Jul 15th 2010 12:29PM
Talbard or Tabard, somewhere to store your mounts is already in place
/pedantic
Cephas Jul 15th 2010 12:48PM
@Arednel
Why are you talking about mounts? Talbards aren't mounts. Were you thinking of Talbuks?
Regarding tabard storage, the beta currently does not have a tabard storage system in place.

Waffles.

Two questions:
1) Is it still possible to submit articles for WoW.com via AoL SEED, or was that a limited time sort of deal?
2) Is itemization in earlier levels going up or down relative to what they are now? For instance, will leather legs with 8 agi now have 15 agi come cataclysm? Additionally, does blizzard plan to remove any current patterns/recipes/designs/etc.?
Drakkenfyre Jul 15th 2010 12:45PM
Your first question, no, articles are accepted all the time. Go read the original announcement for them, and follow the steps. Each Seed article has a blurb at the bottom about taking articles.
They may adjust items in lower levels like removing useless stats like +Agility and +Spirit on a leather item, but I don't think they are going to be bumping it up much. They will remove patterns. This is a given. It's happened with expansions before. Ammo, for example, will no longer be used, and Engineers will lose the ability to make it. Quivers and Ammo Pouches will no longer be used exclusively for ammo, and instead converted to large bags only Hunters can use, but whether or not Leatherworkers and Tailors will lose the ability to make them remains unknown. The same goes for Soul Bags.
Anything that has been completely removed in the game as far as items go is likely to be removed from crafting.
Haimdall Jul 15th 2010 1:08PM
Are you sure? I've clicked all of the links to their requests, and all of them stop me from writing anything saying that the deadline has been reached already.
Drakkenfyre Jul 15th 2010 1:39PM
Hmm. I hadn't tried so I didn't see that message. Every article from a Seed writer makes mention of the program and sending in your work, so I assume articles were still being taken. I know occasionally they post a story asking for more, so maybe the deadline for this time is over.
Alithoe Jul 15th 2010 3:58PM
Your your second question: They'll be converting the raw Attack Power on the later items into Agility, so you'll see the agi on those items bump up, but the effect they'll have on dps will be the same.
Shassar Jul 15th 2010 12:36PM
The cake is a pie!
timbort Jul 15th 2010 12:42PM
So what's the deal gonna be with masteries now?
Boobah Jul 15th 2010 4:14PM
With the new talent revamp, at level 78 you train Mastery. It gives the benefit of the tree-unique mastery we'd seen before (i.e., Critical Block for prot warriors, greater runic power generation for frost DKs, reaching eclipse faster for balance druids...). The non-unique mastery stuff was folded into the talent tree's passives; what you got at level 10 is what you get.
The unique mastery is buffed by the mastery stat on gear, and (presumably; I've not heard anything about this recently) by wearing the armor type designed for your class.
Timmy Jul 15th 2010 12:41PM
Find Treasure is just as useless as it was before, unless they make it good for Archaeology. With the new quest tracking features, everyone gets a big shiny arrow to take them to quest items.
As far as banned people being able to get into the beta, that is a definitely not a chance,.....some people who got into the beta have already had their access removed for being a troll on the beta-forums.
