WoWathon 2 has begun: Playing WoW for charity

I'll be interviewing them again this year, but they answer questions from the chat channel so you can talk to them yourselves if you like. 100% of the donations through ChipIn go to Child's Play and they accept any amount. Every little bit helps. Their first goal to play past level 20 is $800, but they're only at $310 as of this writing.
If you like the idea of watching people grind, level and take requests from viewers -- and I know you do -- head on over and hang out with them. They'd love to have you and the sick children they are helping will appreciate it too.

A worthy cause.

I love wowathon =D
Velzak Jul 15th 2010 10:09PM
Yes, everyone join us! It's alot of fun and you are donating to a worthy cause!
Albrechtae Jul 15th 2010 10:11PM
Hooray! I'm happy WoWathon is back :D It was a lot of fun to watch & help last year. I'll donate, for sure! Such a great cause.

Just wanted to say that I hope these guys do well. Major worthy cause here, and they're brave as hell to do this on a PvP server. Hope they get some friendly level 80 PvP specialists to defend them so this doesn't turn into a 24-hour gankathon. @_@
Cyanea Jul 15th 2010 10:27PM
Yeah...I gotta wonder about doing this on a PVP server. Don't get me wrong...it's a great idea and I plan on donating...it's just...
People are assholes, this is likely to attract a lot of attention, and a good chunk of that attention is likely to come from griefers.
Raeenith Jul 15th 2010 11:47PM
It doesn't matter what kind of server they are on. They can get griefed on a PVE server by people messing with their questing by killing everything in the zone.
They can simply not state what server they are on.
Cyanea Jul 15th 2010 11:53PM
The more people come to kill everything that they're trying to do for their quest, the more of those mobs will spawn and the faster they will. That's the game mechanics.
On a PVP server, they can be flat-out killed and corpse camped. Must more annoying.
SamLowry Jul 16th 2010 12:36AM
Last year they intentionally chose a PvE realm to avoid interference, but jerks who were apparently opposed to the idea of raising money to help sick children still harassed them by depopulating each area they were in of quest items. Since they had no way to retaliate they were forced to instance-grind (in pre-DF days!) the rest of the way to 80.
Now they can retaliate.

I donated. I don't normally get political here, but I'd much rather give money to something like this than have the government tax the Sh$t out of me and waste it. Power to the people!!
jdduenas Jul 15th 2010 11:40PM
Even though you're gonna get taxed regardless?
thawedtheorc Jul 16th 2010 12:40AM
@jdduenas What the heck does that even mean? He was stating that the money you give to causes such as this do more good and help more people than taxes ever can.
Government promises are just to give politicians and their ilk power.
I just lost a child a few weeks back to cancer and I have seen first hand how much causes like this bring happiness to children who do not have that long to live and are suffering far worse than the worst days most of us will ever see.
CaryEverett Jul 16th 2010 7:41AM
Fun fact jdduenas. Donations to charity are tax deductible.
CaryEverett Jul 16th 2010 7:57AM
I double checked to make sure... Yes Child's Play donations are most definitely tax deductible. Physical donations are tax deductible through the hospital. Cash donations are tax deductible from Child's Play. Frankly I totally recommend anyone calculate how much you are permitted to get deducted from your taxes and donate at LEAST that much to Child's Play or another charity. Would you rather give the government $5000? Or have that same $5000 go to children?

Q. Since this is a charity donation I can deduct it from my taxes, right?
A. Each hospital’s charity tax ID number is included in the information section on its wish list. Use your confirmation email as a receipt. If you are making a cash donation, Child’s Play’s own tax ID number is 20-3584556. If you have any questions about how this works, please ask your tax advisor.

far better option, especially since the american government would just as likely spend it on bombing iraqis or something rather than to help its on people...
Piraka Jul 16th 2010 2:51PM
I think what jdduenas was saying is that the money jtrain is donating has been taxed already.
Tim Jul 15th 2010 10:39PM
I donate my hard earned dough to 3 very needed charities. I'm glad to see some folks playing WoW and collecting donations for theirs. Kudos!!!
Alar Jul 15th 2010 10:46PM
Another $5 donated. ^_^ I would have given more, but I'm currently out of a job and need to watch my spending.
Child's Play ftw!
Bethontheharbor Jul 15th 2010 10:57PM
I totally love what these folks do, and i totally them so don't get me wrong.
Just asking because of Blizz cracking down on game centers and such, about anything involving the almighty buck and playing WoW charity or not is outlawed, did these guys get it sanctioned by Blizz to pledge drive by playing wow?
I would hate them to get a ban or shut down because of a TOS violation, as I really do love what they do. just gave 30 bucks.
Suite Jul 15th 2010 11:17PM
I doubt that's going to happen. It was a pretty big thing last summer and Im sure that Blizz was aware of it (a GM followed them around at one point too, I believe), and nothing was done.
Blizz seems to be a fairly charitable company (See: Ezra/Ephoenix) I can't see them shutting this down.
