Sorta off-topic, but my leveling shadow priest has always been low damage (compred to other dps players at the same level, as noted by doing dungeons), plagued by being OOM quickly. Now at 71 I'm doing decent on mana, but still only doing 200-300 dps in northrend blues/greens. Is there any resource I can go to, and back on topic, is there anything in the talent trees that indicate shadow dps while leveling will get buffed?

if you're only doing 200-300 dps at level 70 in WotLK gear, you're doing something wrong.

Go to Shadowpriest.com and read the FAQ. More than likely your rotation is off and you are clipping Mindflay.

if your shadow, and among other people leveling in a dungeon, you should be top damage at lvl 71i was doing 1500dps+ at lvl 71...

In my experience, your dps suffers if the targets get killed before your dots have a chance to tick. That's going to be during levelling and if you're in an instance group with high dpsers. This is a fairly decent shadowpriest guide, although main advice would be to get some sort of timing addon so you know when to use your debuffs:http://shadowpriest.com/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=23234

I found the addon Event Horizon quite helpful, although your mileage may vary depending on if you like Guitar Hero:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6b49x87uGk

Wowhead.com Priest forums. Go there and read the stickies. All of them. If you're still having problems and not doing between 1000-2000 DPS in a 5 man, go back and post a thread (complete with armory link and rotation) asking for more help.

I'll back up what Killik is saying -- it's probably an issue of wasted casts.Even with bad gear, you should be over 300 DPS. Heck, even if you're casting nothing but Mind Flay, you should be over 300 DPS.I'd suggest trying out an abbreviated rotation, especially if things are dying quickly. Give Vampiric Touch -> Mind Blast -> Mind Flay a try on trash pulls. Alternatively, Devouring Plague -> VT -> MB -> MF may work better, depending on the length of the fight.

Cool, thanks. If interested, this is my armory.http://www.wowarmory.com/character-talents.xml?r=Azshara&cn=Giber&gn=OutcastsI really like S priesting, and priesting in general, its somehow more satisfying than being a warlock or hunter, so hopefully I can bump up this toon and make it a bit easier to solo. Not that its hard right now, since I always have full health (love that), its just slow.

Replace Glyph of PW:S with Glyph of Shadow immediately. You need 5/5 Darkness and 3/3 shadow weaving.

I like the idea of him taking Glyph of Shadow, but if he's doing a lot of soloing, I'd recommend keeping the Glyph of PW:S until level 80. If anything, it's the Glyph of SW:Pain that should be replaced. Also, keep in mind that he's on a PvP realm, so he has a LOT more leeway in choosing talents. And also remember he's not at the end game yet. At level 71, the talent tree is a work in progress.

Well you have BoA gear so you probably have at least one level 80. Even though you will probably be getting new gear it is worth at least getting the low level enchants on your BoA equipment. I would probably look at getting new rings and even though you have the 3 socket pants they are for level 60. Every little bit helps. You want to be the guy that gets grouped up in a random dungeon that everyone wants to run more with. You don't want to be the guy that gets kicked because the healer is doing more dps than you. Your next 9 levels are gong to be fun for you. You will go from where you are at now to easily doing 6-7k dps on single targets, at some point look at adding a your fade ability. With low DPS drawing aggro off the tank is not an issue but when your numbers start jumping and you start seeing 10k critical's look out.

Check that all of your spells are at their maximum rank, if you haven't already. Downranking can kill your output. I had the hardest time healing on my holy pallie until someone with the rank-checking addon automatically whispered me.

"Check that all of your spells are at their maximum rank, if you haven't already. Downranking can kill your output. Warcraft just doesn't update ranks automatically for non-active specs. I was running around with a downranked Penance for about three months.

Just as a postmortum, I haven't had much time to play, but did look at my spells. Most of them were downranked, some quite a bit. Not sure how that happened, but thanks! Should boost my dps quite a bit.
