Bro. Bro. You gotta check out the 'Clysm, bro. You in the 'Clysm beta? I heard Orgrimmar got a hella sweet new bar. Can you say "shots," bro? Say it, bro. Bro. Brorgrimmar. Bromeo. Brosef Stalin. Broseidon, king of the brocean.
Alex asked:
"Regarding the Pirates rep grind (killing Booty Bay guards): I plan to be exalted with Pirates AND Booty Bay at the same time (by freeing Knot in Dire Maul countless of times). Will new Goblin quests in Cata will hurt my Pirates rep?"
The playable goblins are their own faction, not the Steamwheedle Cartel. Their quests shouldn't affect your rep with either the Bloodsail Buccaneers or the Steamwheedle Cartel. But changes to Stranglethorn Vale and the rest of the world might. I'd get your kicks in now.
Transrelativity asked:
"What's the status of Rivendare's deathcharger, the Wintersaber/Venomhide, the ZG mounts, and the Argent Tourney in the beta? Has anything changed with them? I imagine there've been changes to Stratholme at least..."
I can't say what's up with the ZG, Wintersaber or Argent Tournament mounts just yet, but I know for a fact that Baron Rivendare is gone from Stratholme as of this latest beta build. Whether this means his deathcharger is gone forever still remains to be seen. He does have a replacement ...
cjivan asked:
"Speaking of goblin and worgen mounts, and whether you can get them if you're not one of those races if you reach exalted with them... Are there any plans on adding both races to the Argent Tournament? I found that an easy way to get rep with each race."
There are currently no plans to add Gilneas or Bilgewater Cartel representatives to the Argent Tournament.
Richard asked:
"With all the new watery areas in the zones, will there be some kind of mounts or swim enhancements to get around (especially in the flooded shimmering flats) or are we expected to do tons more swimming?"
At least in Vashj'ir, you get a swim speed buff almost immediately upon entering the zone, and you also gain the ability to run on the sea floor. Later, you get a water mount that moves at 280% speed.
It's unlikely we'll see these privileges expanded to other zones, because there just isn't enough water to justify it. Vashj'ir is built from the ground up to be a very 3-D zone.
Tyrannus asked:
"Whatever happened to Deathwing Scar, the supposed entrance to Deepholm, 'cause making the entrance to Deepholm in the Maelstrom doesn't make sense. The Maelstrom already caused one cataclysm, its like a hole in the wall, how does Deathwing cause a new cataclysm stepping through an 'already there' hole?"
Deathwing essentially broke through the ceiling of Deepholm and busted out of an already existing vortex of chaotic energies -- that is, the Maelstrom. The only reason why you can get to Deepholm from there is because of Deathwing. The Earthen Ring is currently doing its best to keep the rift open so they can send more people down there to fix the World Pillar, which was shattered when Deathwing broke through.
Bonksy asked:
"What are the languages of player worgen and goblins?"
The playable goblins are able to speak goblin and orcish. Worgen speak common and worgen. The worgen language isn't yet implemented.

Have the level 20-60 quests in the newly-revamped Old World been updated with the newer mechanics brought in with BC and WotLK? I.e. Bombing missions, vehicles, etc etc. I know there's some of that in the new starting zones, but I wonder if it's been extended to the rest of the game up to Outland...
Also, what's the story impetus now for players to even bother going to Outlands or WotLK?

"Also, what's the story impetus now for players to even bother going to Outlands or WotLK?"
I'm expecting a quest in every major city to become available at level 58, that reads something like "Deathwing is tearing our world apart and we don't even know how. Recent reports from Outland reveal that a daughter of his was seen consorting with the Dragonmaw Orcs in Shadowmoon Valley, and we know he lived in Outland for a time but what he did there is still a mystery. [Class], you must go to Outland to investigate Deathwing's time there so we may find a way to fight him before it's too late." And maybe there'll be two or three quests added to continue that idea, and hopefully some dialogue of existing quests will be rephrased, but that's it.
As for Northrend, I have no idea. Maybe something similar relating to the Titans, since they will play a moderately big part in Cataclysm and they played a big part in the Storm Peaks. Pure guesses though.
This could be very clumsy or completely smooth and normal, it'll depend on how the low- and mid-level quests in the revamped zones are designed.

I assume they will include those new mechanics, blizzard have changed their approach to quests considerably since vanilla. As far as outland and northrend, it looks like lore is going to have to deal. Your just leveling in non-chronological order.

The quests in the old world are definitely more interesting. There is a quest in Redridge Mountains where you use a tank to kill orcs, for example.
Also phasing helps a lot with story telling and keeping everything cool!

"a daughter of his was seen consorting with the Dragonmaw Orcs in Shadowmoon Valley, and we know he lived in Outland for a time but what he did there is still a mystery"
It was his consort, actually. Former.

I think our characters will be sent to Outland by someone so "we" (our characters) will better understand the risks for Azeroth if we don't stop Deathwing. We could also study Outland to find ways of saving Azeroth from a similar event. Honestly, I'd be surprised if they updated Outland quests, but anything's possible.
As for Northrend, besides the fact that it's so new and changing all the quests would make a lot of the previous work feel like wasted effort, maybe some quests will change, but I think some more will be added. Since Cataclysm deals a lot with the elements, the Earthen could provide some great advice in dealing with them. Also whoever Brann leaves behind will probably inform us of Uldum, at least around lvl 80. Not to mention the Titans are the ones who originally empowered Neltharion/Deathwing, so some of the Watchers or the Tribunal might have some useful information on him.

Or have the Cataclysm mess with temporal energies the same way it messed with everything else, and turn the Dark Portal from a wormhole through space to one through space *and* time -- back to the events of the Burning Crusade.
And then, just say that Northrend and Quel'Danas were altered by similar temporal forces caused by weird activities in the Bronze Dragonshrine.

Do we even really need lore reasons? I've always thought we were adventurers wandering the world to seek our fortune. Is it really such a stretch to assume that in our quest to seek fame and riches we'd wanna see what's behind portal number two without some general saying 'uhhh, ya; go kill red orcs and bird people. For the alliance/hoard and stuff!'
One of my RP toons is a rogue, and if anything the idea of being told to go to Northrend by some military official or noble or whatever would make him less likely to go.

From before the era of "brah", the short "Buddy" was a classic:

My bad, the webpage design is crap. You have to click on the cover for his album, "They're All Gonna Laugh At You."

Another question that could prolly be answered from people on the beta. How would a rogue raise their lock picking in Cata are there still lock boxes lying around the respected area of the lvl like wetlands and red ridge or have the lock boxes been moved/removed cause of places like the barrens? i dunno i think i made it complicated just wondering how poeple would raise their lock picking in cataclysm
kesherz Jul 16th 2010 12:55PM
I may be wrong, but I seem to remember reading that Lockpicking would simply scale with level, just like weapon skills are going to.
Hob Jul 16th 2010 4:13PM
It is so much easier to pick pocket mobs and unlock the junk boxes they drop, than try to go to Wetlands / Badlands / etc. for weird, random footlockers.
Question for the Queue:
Why are there no treasure chests in Northrend, and can we assume there will be no treasure chests in Cataclysm? It's always fun to find a (battered / solid / adamantium-bound) chest when questing, and questing in Northrend has been slightly disappointing because of this lack.

With Darkshore and Auberdine destroyed in Cataclysm, how do the Draenei and the Night Elves get from their islands to Kalimdor ?
