Honestly, from the gameplay videos I've seen, it suits me quite nicely. There are difficulty settings on quests basically, to where you can choose difficulties (and better rewards) for bringing yourself, a pair, a small or large party, or a "raid" (legion).
To me, this suits me nicely, as WoW always seemed to punish my girlfriend and I for duoing. Quests didn't award much extra exp, collection quests were maddening waiting for respawn timers, and in the rare instance a quest would be easier as a duo.
Sure, it won't be as easy as WoW, and will likely be a bit more wonky, but I don't really mind as it keeps the "MMO" aspect in an online MMORPG...
In terms of setting, I really don't see why Ivalice would be such a great setting. FFT was great, but it was its own game. The world and characters are very similar to FFXI in FFXIV, but maybe that's because they're attracting the same audience yet new players with what they've said in several interviews to be a more solo-friendly yet group-rewarding game?
