Scattered Shots: Cataclysm beta hunter video sneek peek
Welcome to Scattered Shots, written by Frostheim of Warcraft Hunters Union and the Hunting Party Podcast. Each week, Frostheim uses logic and science (mixed with a few mugs of dwarven stout) to look deep into the hunter class. Got hunter questions? Feel free to email Frostheim.
Today, rather than telling you all about what's happening for hunters in the Cataclysm beta, I'm going to show you. This video goes through a handful of the hunter changes, including the tracking update, new pet skins, the new stable master and the improved pet stay command.
Before anyone asks, the beta currently has a level cap of level 83 and Camouflage cannot be learned until level 85. It's still very early in the beta, and we have a way to wait before we can see how that one works out.
Scattered Shots is the WoW.com column dedicated to helping you learn everything it takes to be a hunter. See the Scattered Shots Resource Guide for a full listing of vital and entertaining hunter guides, including how to improve your heroic DPS, understand the impact of skill vs. gear, get started with Beast Mastery 101 and Marksman 101 and even solo bosses with some extreme soloing.

Flying in Ironforge.
Wow...
I do like the pet /Stay command. That might be pretty nifty. I'm also interested in the stables. That's going to be awesome.
dracoamericanus9 Jul 19th 2010 5:22PM
i'm horde and i might hang out in IF just because it looks awesome to fly through.
Artificial Jul 19th 2010 5:51PM
Was anyone else thinking what I was thinking as he flew threw the trenches there?
"Stay on target! Stay on target!" XD

Well, the dwarves don't consider a small one-man mount to be any threat, or they'd have a tighter defense.
Elmouth Jul 20th 2010 12:13AM
omg I'm so taming that Fox pet right away when cata comes out.
Its so cute.

Welcome to Ironforge. Have fun finding the mailbox underneath the protodrake mounts of players like Watchinupoop and Umadcuzubad. It's going to be like mammoths today ... but worse. I was really hoping they'd make capital cities no fly zones like Dalaran - for one thing, what's to stop Horde raids flying straight in?

"Flying in Ironforge Wow"
My 3 yr old said the same thing! When he summoned the flying mount, my son said "He flying in town?!? That's so funny!"
He knew right away it was different.
I'm so proud! *sniffsniff* :p

You said the Call Stabled Pet ability had a long cast time with no cooldown. What is the cast time? Ten seconds?
Arbolamante Jul 19th 2010 5:13PM
Looks more like a chimp than a monkey - and chimps, like humans and gorillas, are apes, not monkeys. But since when did these details bother Blizz?
Stone Jul 19th 2010 5:18PM
it's a monkey dude, it has a tail, apes don't
Arbolamante Jul 19th 2010 5:21PM
I did miss the tail. Ok then, that's just one plain weird looking monkey.
Stone Jul 19th 2010 5:27PM
hahaha, no biggies xD but i'm hoping that they give foxes and monkeys there own families, i mean, wolves for foxes and gorilla for a monkey? doesn't add up
icepyro Jul 19th 2010 6:39PM
I believe the monkeys and gorillas are all a part of the "Primate" family come Cata...
As for foxes/wolves... *points to yon Worgen* I blame that guy.

Note that since this is still early beta, the new pet skins may well still get an update. It's entirely possible they are not the finished skins.
Valtor Jul 19th 2010 5:15PM
Hey Hey Were the Monkey's!
Artificial Jul 19th 2010 5:53PM
1) That would be "we're".
2) You are *seriously* dating yourself. :p
Drakkenfyre Jul 19th 2010 6:41PM
I would rather someone date themselves, than say that and have someone say "What?"
Johnny Jul 19th 2010 5:19PM
The monkeys can't through poo!
I'm never gonna play this game again!
Johnny Jul 19th 2010 5:20PM
through=throw
by the way.
Damn spelling fail!

I must say I am thrilled at the new stay command, as well as the new stable Interface. The one thing I wish for more, however, and there seems to be no indication we will ever get it, is a built- in aspect bar, much like the presences of deathknights, stances of warriors, stealth of rogues, and shapeshifts of Druids. While I'm wishing, I'd also like a trap bar, like the shaman totem bar, and for Druids, paladins, and deathknights to lose access to my beautiful polearms! =p
