WoW Moviewatch: No Love for this PUG
I actually really enjoyed the game footage and machinima clips created by JoshuaIRL. The WoW model was clearly intended to look like Kesha, and it's a technique that served this video well. While most parodies completely abandon the original singer, No Love for this PUG kept winking back to Kesha. It worked for me, I think, because it's equal parts "laughing with" and "laughing at."
It's hard to evaluate Jennisfar's vocal performance, though, because of the audio filters used. To be fair, it's not like Kesha's recording was audience-pure either. But I just can't make out how much of the song is her raw voice and how much is filter.
Ultimately, I hope JoshuaIRL and Jennisfar keep working on new stuff, because I think they have some talent. It'd be nice to see their material grow while we're all looking forward to new opportunities in Cataclysm.
Edit: Turns out, this is a cover of Your love is my drug. I admit, I can't tell them apart. Mea culpa.

Cthulu Jul 19th 2010 12:12PM

When you're dealing with this sort of..."music", how much does the title really matter?
Johan Forn Jul 19th 2010 12:33PM
O, Michael Gray, why must you torture us over and over?
Phort Jul 19th 2010 12:48PM
Because Alchem, "Don't stop, make it pop
DJ, blow my speakers up
Tonight, I'mma fight
'Til we see the sunlight
Tick tock on the clock
But the party don't stop, no" is different from "Because your love your love your love is my drug
Your love your love your love
Your love your love your love is my drug
Your love your love your love"
Thats why

Words can't express my feelings towards this video, so I'll use a 'smiley' instead.

Production wasn't terrible. The phasing of the lead vocal and some very noticeable out-of-key notes are the only bad things I can say.
Autotune, while implemented properly in this case (read: moderation is key), should be given more than a 25/25 once-over preset so rogue notes can be corrected individually. It is something an objective ear could have picked out during mixing, but nothing game-breaking for a wow parody.
All-in-all, this is one of the best ones to come out in a long, long time. I had to listen twice!
7/10

Did not mean to hijack! Sorry :(

Thank you for the comments.
I did the mixing for this song and did not use any "auto-tuning" at all.
It has SOME effects but not much. Could just be room acoustics you're hearing.
Hollowed Hunter Jul 19th 2010 2:55PM
Actually, applying too much auto-tune would have given the vocal the proper effect. Ke$ha, along with almost every other pop artist on the radio today use what was originally known as the "Cher-Effect". What happens is when you turn the autotune up 100%, it works too fast, giving it that robotic sound that you hear everywhere today. It was found by mistake, but as of recent, has been a staple in pop/r&b/dance/rap music.
Vandersveldt Jul 19th 2010 4:30PM
When using this high amount of auto tuning, a vocal minority always seems to come out, crying foul of "They're not really singing", and "They have no talent whatsoever!!!". Well, this isn't supposed to be singing. When you use that much auto tune, you are using your lyrics and voice mixed with the machine to be another instrument. You wouldn't complain if that part was being played on a keyboard, no one minded when Daft Punk did it. This is, and HAS been for quite some time, just a lesser version of that. She's not trying to pretend to be singing, it's just another instrument in the song. Personally I LOVE top 40, and especially Ke$ha's album. However, whenever I say that, people assume I'm a troll :(

While Kesha isn't really my thing, this vid earns points by not being R&B and not featuring belfs in the lead.
brian Jul 19th 2010 5:41PM
I can't say I like the original song either, but this was really well done, in my opinion. The lyrics flowed really well.

The lesson I have learned over the last 5-6 wow moviewatches is that wow girls who make videos and sing in them, like horrible music.
Cetha Jul 19th 2010 12:46PM
hahaha the ending made it all worth it.
spears Jul 19th 2010 12:50PM
Wow, I almost made it like 5 seconds into that video before having to turn it off.
Denecro Jul 19th 2010 12:54PM
