Curse acquires MMO-Champion

Curse, which already has one of the largest repositories of WoW addons and mods for download, as well as the venerable World of Raids outlet, adds on significant prowess in the WoW information community. With content from all three channeled into each other, you can expect big things from all involved. Read the official press release over at Curse or MMO-Champion.
Some of the questions that I personally had about the acquisition were, happily and thankfully, answered by both World of Raids and Boubouille himself. Curse currently has a premium subscription-based service, and I wanted to know if we could expect something similar from MMO-Champion in the future. Boubouille answered on his website:
I'm not going to bullshit you, premium might happen but it's really not a top priority for the moment. I would hardly call it premium, more like "Donator/Sponsor" for people who would like to help, I would also like to explore new features through that like user generated blogs or user groups on forums, etc ... But really, I don't see it happening in 2010.
If I ever add a Premium feature to the site, it will be because it can bring something more without penalizing people who don't want to pay, it won't be just because I'm jealous of Ghostcrawler and want to buy a bigger yacht than his. If something is free today, it will stay free. It's that simple.
Doesn't sound attractive or well-thought? Good, that's because we have no immediate plan to do that. Exactly my point.
Secondly, what happens to World of Raids, now that two similarly positioned outlets are housed under the same roof? From World of Raids:
We talked with Boubouille back in 2009, and the interview is definitely worth a read. Good luck to Boubouille at his new home and big grats to Curse for picking up a hot property.What this means for World of Raids, and when it will happen, is still being worked out. I'll make sure to announce any plans well in advance though.

Awesome! I like what those boys and girls down at Curse do, might be fun to see if they bring something to MMO-Champ. Do I smell a Garfield related Addon soon?

I don't see bad things coming from this honestly, and I bet BB is getting some nice cash out of this deal anyway. Good for him, and good luck to the new MMO-Champ.

Agreed, and I wish the guy the best. He's doing what's best for him and gave a straightforward announcement about it. Maybe MMO Champion will go down the tubes...maybe not. We'll just have to read www.wow.com or the next major site attempting to do the same thing.

With all due respect buddy, does he owe you something? If you answer no then what possible right do you have to criticize a man for trying to improve his standing in life? So far hes been honest and up front about everything and still intends to provide you with the same service. Even if at some point it all becomes premium all you have to do is google the next site to rival mmo-champ and go there. This guys hard work and personal expense went into this website building it to what it is today. It's his to do with as he pleases. Be thankful you've received everything you've gotten until now and either wish him the best or leave him alone.

i wouldn't consider either of them to be forums in the strictest sense of the word. they're just comment sections that happen to be somewhat monitored to give feedback (and delete the occasional obscene comment).

That was my immediate thought too.
Curse may be a large addon repository, but I've always felt they had really sleazy business practices. I'm not sure I'm happy about this change; I can easily imagine negative things happening to MMO-Champ because of this.

Ditto. While I do get a lot of my addons from them, I've heard bad things about Curse. I've never really trusted their download manager and dislike some of their practices.
Maybe this acquisition will be just like Activision-Blizzard. (Read into that what you will.)

I'm with you on this. Overusing flash just to make a website (excusen the pun) more flashy is bloody annoying, and isn't worth the slowdowns and such.

I believe he is referring to the flash vulnerabilities which can compromise your account. I think it is a jab at Curse by implying that they might implement an account stealing practice through their newly acquired website.
