I'm beginning to think that the worst looking parts of these screenshots are actually the character/NPC models... Blizz have done such a good job gradually upgrading the world graphics I reckon it might be time for them to upgrade "us" to to speak.

Basically, he says that they're aware of the problem, and they would like to update the old models. But he also says that making the worgen and goblin models took their animators a long, long time.
So, here's hoping that it does happen someday, when it's feasible.

MusedMoose, Blizz also wanted to do Dance Studios, and we all know how well that turned out. Just because Blizz would like to do it, and it's somewhere in the priority list, doesn't mean it's going to happen anytime soon.

Yeah. Well according to the developers they can only add so many models per expansion...of course I would rather have them update all the existing races rather than have say a fox or a "whale shark" or some new variation of an existing beastie....but that's my humble opinion :)

It takes uncomparably more concept art, desigh, modeling a pure man-work to recreate existing races to the level of Worgen/Goblin.
But if you have been watching theirs statements on this - with every passing month they move more and more into the direction that they want to do it, I wouldn't be surprised if in sometime mid-August Ghostcrawler would send out a Blue stating that the original races will be getting an update sometime in Cataclysm, but not at release.

Dreary coastlines look like Gilneas. The Forsaken presence seems to work well with that.

It's part of the Gilneas levelling area. You are tasked with (no spoilers, promise) helping some people, and the house this forsaken it outside belongs to a crabby old woman.
