New non-combat pet in Cataclysm: Withers

That's right, in addition to a faceless worgen and a gnome for scale, this image shows off Withers, the new noncombat pet available through questing in Darkshore in Cataclysm.
As Breanni of WarcraftPets points out, Withers is a relatively large noncombat pet when you first summon him and then shrinks over time, growing back to his full size when he's near a body of water. (We had trouble getting him to do his emotes, although we did see him noticeably shrink several times.) Unlike the Teldrassil Sproutling, which he resembles, he's got a worn, weatherbeaten look and the amusing size change process. Since he seems to be only available from an Alliance quest, he's most likely Alliance only. No word on Horde-only pets so far, but we'll keep an eye out.

Well, maybe the Horde should be stopping chopping down the trees in Ashenvale...
deweymaverick Jul 21st 2010 2:26PM
Not to ruin everyone's fun (sorry to be the voice of reason)...
but why is it impossible that there's a Horde only quest in some other zone that offers the exact same reward?!
Donjedi Jul 21st 2010 3:29PM
Well Horde can get this too because ... :-s Now horde can quest in
darkshore they have a base in the N of Darkshore .
Remember the dancing troll vilage ... they we're named Shatterspear
tribe or something like that ... Now they have a Shatterspear War
Camp there ^_^

@Donjedi
Yes, just like the Horde version of the Furlbog changing quest.
Oh wait!

D'aaawww poor thing
I wanna a water him, and feed him, and hug him so he can be a happy tree. :(

The irony of his name in relation to the Resto Druid community's dilemma is so sickeningly sweet.
i'm even more sad now, since i play a Tauren Resto Druid.
thanks wow.com, for making my day even sadder :(
niko Jul 21st 2010 11:14AM
i still want him though :)

Hopefully the Horde will get a cool pet that interacts with it's environment too - withering and flourishing in relation to water is new and pretty funky!

Apart from the pets good idea..
Is that worgen wearing green cata armor? Could we have similiar "set" images we got for wotlk?
Matthew Rossi Jul 21st 2010 11:55AM
That is indeed green/blue quest armor available through quests in Stonetalon/Desolace, except for the boots which I got in the Hinterlands.
dpsg Jul 21st 2010 2:28PM
Rossi, can you give us more screens of your furry guy there?? When do you think you are gonna write a warrior post about the new build?

This week's TCAFOW is almost certainly going to be about the new talents and specs for warriors using the worgen as my test bed.
Brasson Jul 21st 2010 11:34AM
Aw, man. Is this the new Sprite Darter Hatchling?
Alchemistmerlin Jul 21st 2010 11:35AM
Faction exclusive pets are stupid.
Phil Jul 21st 2010 11:36AM
What a sad little man you are.
Unain Jul 21st 2010 11:39AM
Hopefully BoE...

Well I guess since Blizzard is cheating us out of 1 race/class combo they are going to try to make it up with an Alliance only pet. Thanks Blizz for failing.
Jack Miles Jul 21st 2010 12:49PM
Waaa, Waaa.
This is not trying "To make it up". This is the Alliance getting something awesome as a quest reward because that's how quest rewards work. Also how awesome things work. The exclusivity makes it better. Though on a PvP server it'll probably get you murdered.
Also "Cheating us out of 1 race/class combo"? Does it really matter? Honestly? I... It's not like we're short of a race or class. Draenei Rogues are not that interesting.
