Around Azeroth: Paintings of light
Outland. Remember that place? No? The big area where you had to level your death knight before you could go to Northrend? Lots of purple and red and demons? Yeah, that place. Anyway, Kiruvi of <Dogs of War> on Terokkar (US-H) went back to Outland and took this picture in his server's namesake zone. I wonder how much it cost for the arakkoa to have all that track lighting installed?

Terokkar was a beautiful place to travel through...
Until it destroyed my FPS into single digits, then it was beautiful screenshots. :)

Why did it not destroy your fps at first but only later?

I imagine he didn't have an epic flyer while leveling, but now he does, so epic flyer + many well-detailed trees = lag on a lower-end computer. Mine used to do something similar both there and in Grizzly Hills, before I got this computer.

I remember switching from a 2004 toshiba satellite to a macbook pro last year and being blown away when I could finally push the draw distance beyond ten feet and see the full scope of outlands.
I can see for miles and miles and miles…..

Why so scathing and sarcastic about Outland? It was a superb continent, held dearly in my eyes.
Imnick Jul 23rd 2010 11:02AM
Because nobody goes there any more.
Many zones such as netherstorm, designed for people over 68, are entirely deserted because that's the time when everyone leaves for Northrend.

Because a lot of us disliked it, even the first time around.

I had a lot more fun in Outland overall than I did in Northrend. I guess that's why my Druid stayed there for the long haul, and I plan on having my Pally go through the same regimen too. Leave there at 68, you must be kidding me.

Those trees look like spaceships and the light looks like beams...
INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS!!!

Ahhhh, Outland is a beautiful place...

That's where that gigamondo spider lurked. "How bad can this spider be," thinks I, as I pick up the quest to go kill it. I had fun doing the quests where you rescued people. This spider can't be that bad.
Then, I saw the legs and the body and watched it swallow my pet. Uh oh.
There is a great deal of beauty in Outlands. We've forgotten that.

Just done Terokkar on my Rogue (I have Horde level 80's, wanted an Alliance guy up there too for my worgen) and it does bring back happy memories. Even moreso as I, like some others am now playing it on an upgraded pc.
Some of the quests are very annoying though, and it's a shame I'll be leaving as soon as I hit 68...

I finally got through Outland on my first character, and I skipped Terrokar for the most part. I did some of the arrakoa quests in the extreme northern part of the zone, but that's basically it. I basically did all of Hellfire, part of Zangarmarsh, and part of Nagrand.
I loved Nagrand, and oddly enough I liked Hellfire. Strange, but I liked all of the destruction and stuff. Or maybe the barren landscape reminds me of my birth state, Arizona.

I was surprised how much I liked Hellfire too. I mean, it's basically Durotar, so maybe it was just the haunting music, the alien sky and the excitement of "omg that mob is freaking LEVEL 63!!"
Vaeku Jul 25th 2010 3:11PM
Probably. The sky there IS really cool, as it's one of the clearest. And the music is good too. I think it also just might be because it's newer than the vanilla zones, because I HATE the way Durotar looks. But HFP is newer so it's more refined?
Also, I liked the excitement of dodging the Fel Reavers. It's not that much fun with a flying mount, but there's still the excitement of "OMG it's so close ack hurry up and mount up faster!"

Currently working on Shat'ari Skyguard rep, so I've been seeing a lot of Terokkar Forest lately. It really is a lovely place, tends to get lost in all the funky purples, blues and reds of the more exotic-looking zones, but it's quite a soothing environment if you take a moment to really absorb it.
