BlizzCon 2010 virtual ticket on sale

Last year one of the major complaints about the online stream was the fact that many panels were delayed or possibly not even shown at all due to having only one stream available for many panels happening simultaneously, but it looks like they have a solution for that in place this year. According to the RayV page describing the virtual ticket, coverage has been expanded to four online channels offering 50+ hours of BlizzCon programming with complete coverage of panels, tournaments and announcements plus DIRECTV's own exclusive interviews. Hopefully that means you can watch the events as they unfold rather than watching them on a delay or not at all.

For you pet/mount collectors out there, this virtual ticket will get you the exclusive in-game item that BlizzCon attendees will be receiving (though we don't even know what it is yet).
I'm willing to put money down that it's the mini-thor that's been shown.

That's the Starcraft II collectors edition pet.

Mini Thor is sc2:ce pet not blizzcon personally I'm hoping for another murloc suit.

The mini-thor is from the SC2 collector's edition.

I thought the Thor pet was an item from the Starcraft 2 collectors edition.
Cephas Jul 24th 2010 12:57AM
The site specifically states that the item will be Blizzcon 2010 exclusive, and the Thor comes with the Starcraft II collector's edition, therefore it cannot possibly be the Thor.

Blizzard has given out "Cross-Game" pets before, in fact there are several Starcraft pets in the game now. (Zergling, "Marine" Murloc)

I thought the stream was pretty good last year. I did not experience any issues. I will be getting this again this year. 4 channels = WIN IMO.

The the only complaints i had last year.
1. The panel issue
2. The host sucked
3. The crowd sucked when ozzy was on
Calavera Jul 24th 2010 6:37AM
Well, I can not fully agree.
For a paid stream, the quality was lacking, both in resolution as well as in lag.
Missing out on panels was also sad, and I hope this 4-channel thing fixes that.
Last but not least, RayVs support and information concerning the stream was horrific.
If all these things are fixed I'll be coming back, if they aren't, well, I'll probably be back anyway, but less happy.

/agree with Rakah
The choices of panels to show on the stream last year was curious. Then, in some cases, the archives were inaccessible for days afterwards. The hosts were a mixed bag; he was decently prepared, she was not, the remote chick was gawdawful. But, to be fair, I wasn't subscribing for their commentary, and their segments were throw-aways filling time between panels.
It annoyed me endlessly that they stopped the stream at the pre-determined ending time, cutting out the entire dance contest. They were better with the second night's concert, and I thought the sound quality was really good. My wife and I put the kid to bed, turned up the sound and enjoyed it (more than most of the people there, it seemed).
Multiple streams is great news! We will subscribe again.

I tried at 3 different locations, home (10mbps), a local starbucks (with great download speeds), and at the office (DSL, but light use), quality was sad at best, pathetic at worst. Streaming video can get down to 4kilobytes per second (about 56k modem speeds), but they can't even maintain that, or they aren't compensating for server overload very well. It's been a year, maybe they've gotten better. Am I going to risk spending $40 before I watch the free opening ceremonies? Hell no.
