The Guild's new music video: Game On
The Guild has released a new music video, which was originally debuted at San Diego Comic-Con last week. This time, they've jumped from the virtual scene into the Bollywood scene. Zaboo (Sandeep Parikh) leads a song in which he tries to convince Codex (Felicia Day) to put down her book and jump into the game. The set is complete with a full ensemble of dancers, wonderful choreography, the rest of The Guild's cast and even a real elephant. They did a wonderful job of mimicking Bollywood style and still keep with their usual sense of humor, which shows up in everything they do.
This comes in the middle of their season 4 storyline involving the quest to build the better guild hall, as well as Codex's usual dose of drama where gaming and real life collide. Check out their latest adventures on Bing.

I don't care for the show itself, but the Guild seems to come out with some pretty good music videos (for something aimed at gamers).

The elephant shots. My word. Both sit on a motionless animal while people in the background run past with branches in the air, to make it look as if the beastie really is walking. Now THAT'S how you make a movie :D

gotta love that Real Life shirt.
Zuckerdachs Jul 27th 2010 10:05AM
I don't think that's a real elephant, haha.

I -knew- I recognized that fight scene. Took me a little bit to find the vid, but here's the inspiration for Zabu's fight. Incredible props to The Guild peoples for throwing in the obscure Bollywood reference.

If anyone is interested I will post the lyrics (including the translation to Vork's part):
“Game On”
Boot up, embrace the feeling
The start button is the portal to your being
Turn on, it’s a pleasure device
Game with me, the ultimate spice
I promise you it won’t ever be dull
In a world you’re all powerful
I’ll buff you, don’t be afraid
It’s Tuesday night, Let’s do this raid!
Game On! Is it immature?
Game On! I’m insecure
Game On! Don’t g-quit on me!
Game On! We got keyboard chemistry
(DANCE BREAK)
I feel so much shame
I get dissed for saying that I game
No one understands
Why I’m living in a fantasy land
In-game you’ve got cool hair
Go from slumdog to a millionaire
Level up, Feel the bliss
Forward slash, Almost kiss
Game On! Invite sent!
Game On! Hop on Vent!
Game On! Say it proud!
Game On! Screw the crowd!
Game On! No one else to please!
Game On! I’ll press your hot keys!
Game On! There’s no disgrace.
Go to hell real life I’ll punch you in the face!
(FIGHT BREAK)
Game on! (x8)
Game On! Steal my breath!
Game On! No perma-death!
Game On! Don’t resist!
Game On! Give that bulb a twist
Internet sabhi desh ko jodataa hai (The internet connects all nations)
Frustration nikalanekaa raastaa hai (Provides a outlet for all frustrations)
ONLINE GAMING may kuchh buraa nahi Hai (Nothing wrong with online gaming)
Us Vichhar CONTROL-ALT-DELETE” (Control-Alt-Delete that feeling)
I’ll admit, when we party it sizzles
Won’t let the spell fizzle
Grab the reigns, don’t re-roll
Point and click, take control!
Game On! No disrespect!
Game On! We’re not rejects!
Game On! No remorse!
This is a feeling you can’t outsource!
Game On! Invite sent!
Game On! I’m on Vent!
Game On! Never g-quit on me!
Game On! We’ve got keyboard chemistry.
Game On! Game On! Game On! Game Onnnnnnnnn….

Being Indian, this was hysterical. I give 100% props to this. Bravo!

i like this one better than "avatar" actually -- doing a bollywood parody well is hard work, and they had a zillion costumes, routines, and sets to work out. in avatar, all they had to do was wear their character's costumes and act appropriately against a white background. it's still a great song & video, but i think i just appreciate all the effort that went into this one more.

Definitely seconding this, good Bollywood parodies are really, really hard for people to pull off well. Way too many people seem to think slapping on a choli+lehenga or a sari and bouncing around rhythmlessly to badly lipsynched songs seems to constitute a good parody. Seen so many bad ones it's not even funny. I won't say this one was exceptionally well done, but clearly a lot of love went into it, and it shows.

That...was a lot of fun, actually. Zaboo's kinda hot. >.>
KataSamoes Jul 27th 2010 11:20AM
That was awesome. I heard it's actually not very easy to do that vibrato tone without much practice.

I'm embarrassed, seriously. As a gamer, this embarrasses me. I'm utterly bewildered by how quick you all are to support mediocrity.
EmiW Jul 27th 2010 11:31AM
If you don't like it that's fine but you don't have to be embarassed for those of us who do like it. Gtfo.
badhumorisbad Jul 27th 2010 12:04PM
you guys are kidding me, right? someone strokes your nerdpeen for half a second and you're ready to smack it up, flip it and rub it down.
news flash: this is lame just like date my avatar. i'm not even sure why i watched it after having seen the other 2nd rate stuff the Guild puts out. i mean seriously, next time i want to waste 3 minutes of my content-viewing time for the day, i'll watch a bill o'reilly news clip. at least that would make me laugh if not enrich my life.
