Tuesday Morning Post: Suspect timing edition
Happy Tuesday Morning, everyone! In what may or may not be a mea culpa for the massive amount of downtime, both expected and unexpected, last week, Blizzard's announced that there will be no downtime this morning. That's right, we won't even get rolling restarts. Now, usually I'd be pretty grateful for this. It's always nice to know the server's going to be up and ready for you when you get a chance to play. But today, of all days, is the day they chose? Honestly, I wouldn't even be phased if they put my server on the 24-hour downtime list for today, because I'm just going to spend all my free time playing Starcraft 2.
Actually, never mind. It's pretty clear to me now why they're keeping the servers up. Obviously, the server maintenance team would rather take the day off and play Starcraft II too. If you're still agonizing over whether to play Starcraft or log on and do your dailies, maybe you should stop by WoW.com while you think. We have a lot of juicy Cataclysm news for you to catch up on, and more coming throughout the day.

I believe this is what we call a failed attempt at a meme.

I think the puppies distracted him.

Actually, I think their server maintenance team will be too busy pulling a 72-hour shift trying to keep the Starcraft servers up and running to bother with the Warcraft servers. And no matter how good the beta was, you know they're going to discover things that need patches and rolling restarts in those first few days.
Ryan Jul 27th 2010 7:43AM
@Nina Katarina makes sense. now just hoping that the Hamster that powers Ravencrest-EU doesn't die without it's weekly rest.
Lissanna Jul 27th 2010 9:25AM
That, and they probably don't want to risk having WoW maintenance mess up their SC2 launch or somehow breaking their battle.net system more...
Ronin Jul 27th 2010 10:13AM
Because even though it calls for extra, separate servers to run a separate game, they didn't hire any more techs to run them?
I'd imagine it's a separate team, although it's possible they will borrow from WoW's team to help get things started.

There's certain to be some amount of crossover between the times. I'm sure under normal circumstances, they would be seperate, but given the immense load the Starcraft servers are sure to be under today, I'll bet the last thing they want is to worry about WoW servers at the same time.

I wish I could bank that "no downtime tuesday" for some other week where I won't be grinding out Starcraft. Sucks being in Aus and having servers go down sometime around 8-10pm and the week Starcraft comes out, I can actually play WoW during the evening :P
This is just one of those bitter-sweet moments I guess D:

Hell, it's about time!
I pre-ordered the collector's edition ages ago from Amazon which was full of win when they later tossed a beta key at me. It's winding its way to my house now which almost makes me wish UPS tracking came with a geo-tracker for their trucks so I could go directly to it!
Lissanna Jul 27th 2010 9:25AM
... and that is probably why they don't have a tracking device on the truck for customers to use to /stalk the delivery people.
Ravdoss Jul 27th 2010 10:58AM
Seriously? Who said anything about stalking delivery people? Perhaps that's your thing but I just want my game and when it's out for delivery (very near my area no less) as of 7am, I'd like to actually see it before 5pm! I don't find that unreasonable at all.

Some of the ladies out there get very...moist...over those brown shorts.
Just sayin'.
Wolftech Jul 27th 2010 9:56AM
I would comment, but I am too busy crushing Zerg and Protoss under the boot of my Thor.
Alanid Jul 27th 2010 10:12AM
SC2 is currently installing for me... screw WoW I've been waiting 10 years for this!
Ronin Jul 27th 2010 10:15AM
Wait, was that an article complaining about the lack of down-time? o.0
crunk Jul 27th 2010 10:36AM
I have to wait til Friday to buy this game. Sucks so bad. I wanna play it now! :/

"The latest Cataclysm beta patch is up, and we have the notes."
I think that link leads to the previous Beta build, not the latest one.
