WoW Moviewatch: Orc vs. Wild
Hey guys! I'm totally not Michael Gray. He's sick or something. To be honest, I didn't ask. The weird growths were enough for me to stand far, far away. That means you get the Mat Attack for some serious Moviewatch business!
Wowcrendor is at it again with a TV parody in Orc vs. Wild, a fun knockoff of Bear Grylls' (here Boar Thrills) infamous Man vs. Wild. If you aren't familiar with the show, adventurer and survival expert Bear Grylls drops himself off in remote, dangerous locations and attempts to survive. Also, there is always some stupid shelter he builds. Every. Time. Spoiler alert: he's usually okay.
I enjoyed this Wowcrendor parody mostly because of the terrible memories it brought back about Stranglethorn for me. Grom'gol feels like an Orc vs. Wild situation for any adventurer -- dropped off into the middle of the zone, one way out, no holds barred. British accents be damned, anything that makes fun of Bear Grylls is good in my book. I greatly enjoyed the directions in general chat, as well as the advice for not getting ganked. Take this advice to heart, little ones. Running into the trees may very well save you from really lazy gankers. I speak from experience.
My first Wowcrendor video was his Are WoW graphics bad? foray into showing some of the beautiful places of Azeroth past. He's definitely got range. Let's just work on the British accent, yes? Good show!

As a British person, he's definitely very good with his Australian accent.

I thought I was listening to Steve Irwin!

As an Australian person, he's definitely very good with his New Zealand accent.
Just kidding. It sounds like he is drifting between all 3 accents (Aussie, British and New Zealand)

Awesome, a new Movie Watch. Please, could yesterday's auto-playing Oxhorn now be taken out of the sidebar so we don't have to keep hearing it over and over and over and over EVERY time we load a new page on WoW.com? It's getting reeeeeally old doing the "frantic scroll to hit pause" move on each page. :\

The new movie should be up there now.
But with that said, I'm not sure why that player was auto-playing for some and not others. On all of my machines, including clean environments I have for testing, it's not autoplaying.
As a precaution if it was auto playing for anyone, I'd dumb your cache and possibly your cookies. Something might be messed up in there from another site. WoW.com doesn't do autoplaying, evah.

Thank you so much for the helpful reply, Adam! I didn't even think about dumping my cache -- it was autoplaying on both my Winbox and Mac, so I thought it was just a universal thing. It's nice to know that WoW.com doesn't like autoplay, and in the future I'll know to tinker around with things on my end if it happens again. Thanks! :)

I half-expected the ganking to occur during the first sighting of the Night Elf, but he kept it in the cards for the more apt last second, heh heh. Very funny overall, I too appreciate a dig at that show. Wowcrendor paid attention to the details of it and parodied them well.

Pronunciation of vitamins was pretty epic

"I just rub my hands together and BAM!, A pile of woods surrounded by rocks and fire"
"It just dropped some fish scales, which doesn't make sense since it's a crab"
Rofl Rofl rofl!

Ah, Ganklethorn. How I don't miss my old RPPVP server! (Your ganking stories in STV here, please.)

There is no such thing as lazy ganker. Either you gank or you are ganked.
Slaytanic Jul 30th 2010 1:53PM
"We got some fish scales....which doesn't make much sense, cause it's a crab."
That line had me rolling. :) And yeah, I thought it was Steve Irwin too. CRANKY!!

I hope we didn't give Mr. Grey a nervous breakdown with our incessant complaints about his WoW Moviewatch choices.

Why the Bear Grylls hate? He's pretty damned awesome and doesn't have the giant head that he deservedly could.
Ikatsu Jul 30th 2010 3:35PM
What hate? He's awesome!

Because he's fake? Several times he's been caught faking things on his show. A UK TV station did an investigation on him and found reciepts when he was supposed to be surviving in the wild, he was in a hotel. He has an entire camera crew and safety team around him when he films, and things he has "built" on the show have turned out to be built by professionals. Some of the places he films are supposed to be miles from nowhere, but turn out to be next to a highway. "Wild" horses he supposed rode had horseshoes on him, and farm-raised animals have been brought in for him to hunt and eat. He is completely fake, and after being exposed, they had to slap this "This is dramatized" warning before his show.
Survivorman is the true survival show. He doesn't do everything for drama, and he actually survives, by himself. But he isn't as popular simply because people love the drama.

Oh, I wouldn't call it Bear Grylls hate. More of a tongue in cheek homage. He IS a bit of a showoff, though. Poses for his film crew and tries to eat the most disgusting thing he can find to boost ratings. Now Survivorman: THAT guy goes out alone and drags his own cameras around. Rawr.

Once again, Wowcrendor saves the day (at least the moviewatch column). Also, congrats on being on machinima.com, you go girl !
