Around Azeroth: Wild horses couldn't drag me away
When you move on to the new zones in Cataclysm, will you miss Northrend? Will it be a pleasure to quest there, or, like Outland, will it just be one more roadblock between you and your sixth level 85 alt? Even if you choose to blaze through your 70s, take a moment to stop and watch the scenery. It may surprise you. (Thanks to Kiruvi of <Dogs of War> on Terokkar (US-H) for the screenshot!)

I love this area of the game. It adds lots of simple depth to Northrend and it reminds me of my grandfather's land in North Georgia- horses and all.

I always make a point of hitting up Nagrand and Grizzly Hills whenever I level an alt and I don't plan on changing that anytime soon.

This. Those are the two expansion zones I like the most. Howling Fjord is a close second.

Northrend had a certain flavor to it, but honestly, there's more of that in the lower zones - Howling Fjord and Grizzly Hills in particular. Once you hit the Storm Peaks and Icecrown, it's just all white and blue and undead.
The area where the screenshot is from, near the Alliance camp in Grizzly Hills, is one of my favorites. Familiar faces, interesting quests involving battles with the dark rune dwarves, and catching horses with a carrot and a fishing pole. Good times. ^_^

I am currently dragging my fourth and fifth toons through Northrend. It's still beautiful, but I'm starting to go crosseyed from all the repetition.

Cheers, I had temporarily forgot about Toto's Africa. Youtubing it now.

Way too many hours of Vice City made me associate that song with getting chased by cops over bridges and shot at by the military. Which is kinda hilarious for such a mellow song.

what the devil does this have to do with africa?
i could, of course, be wrong; but i'm almost certain she was going with wild horses, by the rolling stones...
PS if youre youtubing the africa clip, youre in for a treat... its... special :)

Read the title, and I'll I could think of was "Undomesticated equines could not remove me."
Double points awarded to the first person who recognizes the quote :)

Teal'c! I heart you!

Teal'c had an odd obsession with those undomesticated equines.

No way in hell will I miss Northrend, maybe three years from now when we're eagerly awaiting the expansion after Cataclysm, but I can't see that happening. Too many alts, too much tedium, SO tired of it. Just looking at that horse picture makes me twitch because all it does is remind me of that annoying quest to scare them, where I end up chasing the herd for like 20 minutes because my aim with the flash grenade sucks.
My only hope is they speed up 70-80 the way they did 60-70 during the big pre-WotLK patch.

I started out sick of Northrend. Leveling my first 80 through there was hell on earth--couldn't fly, had to run everywhere--the whole place was and remains unappealing to me. I've always been baffled by the people who love Northrend, although I will admit there are memorable questlines and the zone music (grizzly hills and storm peaks especially) are some of the prettiest in the game.
I won't miss it. I'll random dungeon my way from 70 to 80 if I have to just to avoid hanging out there.
Kurash Jul 31st 2010 2:40PM
Well, I won't miss leveling through it (I've done it 10 times; yes, I have one 80 of each class...), but I can still recognize that the zones are well put together and -- the first few times, at least -- very interesting and fun to go through.
Just got tedious by the 10th time through. :(
Kylenne Jul 31st 2010 4:13PM
@Hiwa: I never liked Northrend either, from the very beginning. It's full of zones that are either bleak and ugly (everything bar SB and Grizzly Hills) or tedious as hell (Grizzly Hills). The problem with the epic questlines is all the annoying crap you have to do to get to them (ie Wrathgrate), or that many of them take place in the aforementioned ugly zones. I fully intend on LFD-ing my way through it on my Cataclysm alts, too.
Rawralot Jul 31st 2010 11:01AM
Quite frankly, I didn't really like Grizzly Hills, and it's a shame that it's being compared to Nagrand. Nagrand had the most variety and lore in its quests, and it was a beautiful zone. Grizzly hills pales in comparison to other great NR zones with epic lore like Zul'drak and Icecrown, and there were no major dungeons or lore characters really stationed in Grizzly Hills. Still, I loved Northrend, and i will definitely miss it in Cata
